What 3 things are keeping you in your current job?

I’ve been thinking about my current job lately - it’s stressful, with tight deadlines and a lot of pressure, and I’ve seriously considered quitting. But despite the challenges, there are a few perks that are keeping me here longer than any of my previous roles:

  1. Stock options
  2. Free lunch and bottomless snacks/drinks
  3. Travel opportunities

What’s keeping you in your current job, even if it’s not ideal? Are there perks or reasons that make you stay or do you just love what you do?

The pay isn't great but it's a nice family company
Ethical, wholesome products that our customers are enthusiastic about
Easy workload that allows me to express my creative streak
Flexible with hours, childcare, appointments etc.
I'm soon to give all that up to work for myself, looks mad when I write it all down!

TheDandyLion · 16/01/2025 09:28

I'm actually intrested in the projects I'm involved with
Wfh with paid expenses when travelling to the office
Part time hours
Fabulous Line manager

All of that makes up for the poor pay.

realkfjs · 16/01/2025 09:33
  1. the generous pay and pension
  2. the flexibility (own my diary, come and go as I please so long as I ultimately work my hours and do the job)
  3. I WFH most of the time.

Only after those top 3 things would I start rattling off the bits I enjoy about the job itself, I've worked in more interesting jobs but the perks in this one are pretty unbeatable for me right now.

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 16/01/2025 09:34

Working from home most of the time
Part time
Pay

I am looking for something else because I actually hate my job right now, but there's nothing that comes close.

Sadly, because as a woman of a certain age in a male dominated industry, my chances of getting a job anywhere else at this point are slim to none.

anicecuppateaa · 16/01/2025 09:34

Flexibility. No micro management. Literally nothing else, would love to leave, I’m so bored!

Mummer123 · 16/01/2025 09:36

Very very stressful job but fantastic pay, fantastic progress and work from home

Basketballhoop · 16/01/2025 09:37
  1. Fully home based flexibility for over a decade now.
  2. The salary, stock and pension.
  3. I plan to retire in <5 years by my mid 50s, so no point moving.

  1. Full WFH so very flexible
  2. Is vastly overpaid for what I do
  3. Very 'hands off' management
TeenLifeMum · 16/01/2025 09:38

Pay
leave entitlement (32 days plus bank holidays)
convenience (hybrid)

I used to love my job, now it’s just okay, bit dull.

  1. Only an 8 mile (20 minute) commute
  2. Easy, totally stress free work

But sooooo boring

Beebsta · 16/01/2025 09:43
  1. Good pay
  2. WFH 4 days/week, 1 day in office
  3. scared of losing these benefits but being equally stressed somewhere else.

Career progression opportunities

ColourBlueColourPurple · 16/01/2025 09:45

I do locum work, so the flexibility would be unrivaled in any other job. I'm a single mum and DCs father does EOW, nursery can't have my little one full time, so I'm kind of stuck in this job until circumstances change.

That's all I can think of really!

GameOfJones · 16/01/2025 09:46

I don't love my job. It can be both boring at times and then super stressful, the team isn't very well organised. However I know the grass isn't always greener, I've definitely had worse jobs. What is keeping me is:

Good pension

Really nice colleagues in my team

Short commute and very flexible with WFH or in the office

I've decided I want the stability and flexibility for now as it fits around my life and the kids. I'm working to live, not living to work. So on the hard days I think the money is decent and I work with a nice bunch of people, and if I need to be in the office it's 15 minutes away. If I need to go to my daughters' school play during my working day, no issues and I just make the time up. It could be a lot worse, as I know from bitter experience!

Ihopeyouhavent · 16/01/2025 09:46
  1. I get to WFH 4 days a week
  2. I'm well paid for very little work
  3. I'm well respected and highly thought of in work

Love my job, im very lucky.

biedrona · 16/01/2025 09:46

Only the fact that I haven't found another one yet - I am looking

MrsBuntyS · 16/01/2025 09:46

WFH
Flexibility
Good pension contributions

FreshSpringGreen · 16/01/2025 09:47

The pay is good.
The flexibility means that I can be there for DD after school and when she's ill.
I get to travel a few times a year.
