What 3 things are keeping you in your current job?

I’ve been thinking about my current job lately - it’s stressful, with tight deadlines and a lot of pressure, and I’ve seriously considered quitting. But despite the challenges, there are a few perks that are keeping me here longer than any of my previous roles:

  1. Stock options
  2. Free lunch and bottomless snacks/drinks
  3. Travel opportunities

What’s keeping you in your current job, even if it’s not ideal? Are there perks or reasons that make you stay or do you just love what you do?

  1. Good pay
  2. Complete flexibility
  3. Interesting work
catgirl1976 · 16/01/2025 11:35

Oh and really good BUPA cover and they are paying for my Masters degree. So 9 things.

superclouds · 16/01/2025 11:40

Flexibility
Lack of commitment (on my part, can work when I want)
Variety

Danikm151 · 16/01/2025 11:41

Job security
I know the business
free bus pass 😂

VivSavage · 16/01/2025 11:55

Flexibility. It gives us all a great quality of life and overshadows any negative feelings I may have about my job.

Pay. I'd find it hard to match this salary doing anything else I could realistically do/am qualified for.

Annual leave. I have a really generous amount of annual leave.

runwithme · 16/01/2025 11:57

Pension
30 mins commute
I am good at what I do and the support is there for training etc. This is what was missing from previous jobs, where I was just thrown in at the deep end and left to it

My job doesn't pay a lot. But!

It's manageable with my anxiety disorder.

I am my own boss.

I meet loads of dogs.

@TheWonderhorse

You had me at dogs 🤣

ClosetBasketCase · 16/01/2025 12:24

The people i work with
the pension
stock options
bottomless snacks
free lunch
paid team outings
wellness days
wellness allowance
free massages
TRAVEL!

My pay is shit, we live in a really expensive part of the country, i'll never in a million years afford a house up here, will probably be in shared accomodation untill I either find a man i can kind of tolerate and we can afford somehwere together, or I retire

iamnotalemon · 16/01/2025 12:24

Great salary and bonus
Great colleagues (very much appreciated after my last toxic job)
Free lunch
Short commute

TennisToday · 16/01/2025 12:31

Flexible/hybrid working - 2 days at home 2 in office and 1 day off

Good pension

Can do it with my eyes closed so relatively low stress

No 1&2 are really keeping me in my job and no 3 sometimes makes me want a bigger challenge but I have to remind myself that to lose no 3 would make my life less pleasant as I’ve been in a extremely stressful job and it’s hell.

Intrigued to know what you do Lardy 😯

I'm an IT contractor - currently on a 6 month contract to upgrade some legacy applications to current versions.

TangerineClementine · 16/01/2025 13:08

Above average annual leave, so I can take off most of the summer holidays to spend with my kids.
Lots of autonomy, I manage my own workload without anyone breathing down my neck.
I also enjoy the job itself!

TotallyAddictedToCoffee · 16/01/2025 13:15

Lease scheme car (tied in for 3 years, but it's a really good deal)
Salary (just reached the top of my band, and it's definitely not to be sniffed at)
WFH 2 days a week (most weeks, but I do have to be flexible to cover leave/sickness)

Been here over 10 years, and management is woefully lacking so its actually getting me down at the moment - I'm sick of walking on eggshells because my manager is a dinosaur who takes EVERYTHING as a personal attack - she's the epitome of a Queen Bee Narcissist

Scirocco · 16/01/2025 13:15

Mine would be...

It works well for childcare. DH and I are able to coordinate work patterns to an extent which is useful as we only have ourselves and nursery.

I like the people I work with and the work itself.

The pay is ok and comes with added benefits in terms of pension contributions, leave, etc. I could earn more elsewhere but the sacrifice of pension contributions and flexibility wouldn't be worth it at the moment.

Backinthedress · 16/01/2025 09:17

Good pay
Hardly any actual work
No other offers, I am actually looking.

Good pay for not much work? What do you do?

WhatALightbulbMoment · 16/01/2025 13:17

Good pay for not much work? What do you do?

Comms.
I've always worked my arse off in other roles. No idea what's going on here but there's no progression and development and no challenge.

isthesolution · 16/01/2025 13:32

Security (don't see any redundancy risk, it's permanent)
Ease (travel wise, I know the job so it's easy, would feel stressed having to retrain)
Money (top of pay grade so might struggle to find somewhere to match it)

Whiskeywithwater · 16/01/2025 13:42
  1. Pay
  2. not overly stressful and flexible with wfh
  3. have been here 7 years and am 53 - if they make me redundant they will have to pay me out! At my age moving would be a high risk that if I was to be made redundant it would be harder to find new job and wouldn’t have that accumulated years of service to get that much of a payout. I work in an industry where frequent rounds of redundancies are the norm
Itsjustnotthevibe · 16/01/2025 13:44
  1. My colleagues
  2. Flexibility
  3. Pension
SpringleDingle · 16/01/2025 13:46

I really like my boss and my team
Flexibility and ability to manage my own timetable
They pay me well (I might get a little more elsewhere but I don't feel badly paid here)
