Been at work all day cooked put the DS to bed who is a pain for bedtime takes me a good 45 minutes to get him to sleep. Finally come downstairs to relax and have a cuppa DH is watching his fav YouTubers one after eachother. Really cringy childish stuff I can’t stand it. Had a huge argument about it and he’s gone upstairs in a huff and kicked the bin over!!

Am I supposed to just go along with what he wants.

I think you’re thinking of the 2009 version of YouTube.

it’s this. It took me ages to not cringe at the suggestion to watch something on YouTube because for a good few years after launch it was just nonsense made by randoms. But - like any decent web platform - it’s very different now!

I find the constant talking (wittering) and pace of speech very irritating on YouTube. There are no silent shots between the constant talking talking talking. Arrrgh!

Screamingabdabz · 15/01/2025 14:06

I think I’d be more irritated that you’d done the cooking and bedtime and he’s downstairs with his feet up. What was his contribution other than having a little temper tantrum and kicking a bin?

The problem isn't YouTube (which has plenty of good content - its not just nutters with conspiracy theories) its the lack of discussion or agreement about what to watch in the shared space.

It would be no different if he was dominating the TV watching terrestrial channels or streamers - sharing needs discussion.

@mumofoneAlonebutokay
Absolute History
Architectural Digest
Animal Adventures

Do they sound like childish Andrew Tate conspiracies?

Just a small selection from the channels I'm subscribed too. There's Vogue as well, as in the magazine, they produce content exclusively for YouTube as do other companies. Many of these things from all these channels are full length (ie 1 hour plus documentaries/ interviews) and perfectly fine to stream to the main tv- obviously if everyone is happy to watch!

Myself and my partner watched a really cool documentary about Britain's Most Intereresting Council Houses.

I've got hundreds of channels I've subscribed to and the vast majority are not "Youtubers" or tutorials.

I suppose you could call Jonna Jinton a youtuber but it's beautiful scenic shots of her life in the arctic circle.

HOWEVER

ALL OF THIS IS IRRELEVANT TO THE OP

It really wouldn't matter WHAT was on the main tv the point is she's done the bulk of the work for the last for hours and she wanted something they BOTH enjoyed to just relax together! His reaction of kicking the bin is pathetic and childish.

Currently my dp has the football on the main tv hence me being on MN but we all take turns.

It's about communication and fairness which sadly seems to have been lacking in this instance.

@RisingSunn My dad is nearly 80 and he loves Itchy Boots, he's always telling me about her adventures in great detail. (I don't actually care but glad it makes him happy!)

this is such a strange thread. Youtube is just a TV provider nowadays, no different to Netflix or the BBC. We watch far more Youtube than anything else as the content is so varied, there's always something interesting to watch.

mondaytosunday · 16/01/2025 01:32

There should be something you could both enjoy watching together. He should have stopped. I watch loads of YouTube but do it on my own.
