President Trump: Why is his incoming administration desperate to destroy Europe with political and economic turmoil?

If it were China or Islamic State behaving in a way Trump and Musk are regarding Greenland, Canada, threats of regime change in the UK and essentially aggressively trying to destabilize every European ‘ally’, we’d be calling in Ambassadors, freezing assets etc.

They haven’t even been sworn in yet and are causing chaos and stress.

The way they are behaving you’d think they wanted armed conflict with all their allies.

Although I’m aware Trumps voters don’t care what we think of them, I don’t think many of the rest of the world will ever forgive them for what they’ve inflicted on the rest of us. Yes give into stupidity and feel good chanting four word slogans, but contain it within your own borders, don’t harm the rest of the world with it.

I don’t follow what Trump says but Europe has been destabilising itself for years now. The writing was on the wall already before the recession in 2008. Rolling out the common currency was at least one of the triggers, taking idiotic measures aimed at dismantling energy security, such as national votes on nuclear power (as Italy did) was another nail in the coffin; selling out assets, knowledge and IP to China for easy cash at every opportunity could be another example - I am in Sweden and the majority of our large employers have been Chinese for years.

I don’t understand the complaints about potential tariffs either, the European Single Market has been quite hostile to many products from the outside for years… I still buy things from Britain after Brexit and the duties are ridiculous (3.5% over a threshold of 100 or so euro - it might be fine for an individual consumer but it’s significant for businesses).

If Trump is highlighting these issues he’s only talking about things that are already there. Various countries have been eyeing Greenland which is part of the European Union via Denmark for years, the only difference is that Russia doesn’t shout about this.

Greenland is not in the EU.

Well what can do to stop this then? These megalomaniacs have whipped the working class all over the west into a frenzy and it scares me to think of the future when emotions and prejudice are the order of governance.

Oh my god! It’s terrible that the working class (the people who actually work and bankroll the country with their taxes) have woken up somewhat to the fact their voting can change politics and the direction their country moves towards.

Because he wants all other countries to become a state of the United States. First Canada and Greenland. Where next?

Well after we are liberated from our fiendish government I’m sure we can become a U.S. outpost. I suspect Australia and New Zealand might be handy too.

On another thread I suggested that we ban Reform and I got eviscerated for it, so sadly you may be right.

Though I refuse to give up hope, when people eventually see the good that Labour is doing for this country it will sink in, I’m sure!

Why on earth would we ban Reform if that is who 'most' people want to vote for?
Trump and Musk are trying to undermine the Labour party for a number of reasons but not least because they were fucking rude about Trump (think Sadiq Khan and David Lammy for starters) and biting the hand that feeds you is childish and pathetic. We are not a big player. We have lived in safety for decades because of NATO financed disproportionately by US. We are not equals. The US tbh holds all the power, so we should probably stfu.

This reads like satire

Well we do give money in relief aid. Not just the government, altruistic citizens do too. We’ve also given back a few stolen territories, and some like Gibraltar and the Falklands I can see being handed back in the next 10 years too.

Whats the difference between "open borders" and "stolen territory"?

EasternEcho · 11/01/2025 11:30

I think the simple answer is that Putin wants him to destabize Europe and carve it out amongst themselves. That's my rather simplistic view. For some reason Trump seems either highly envious of Putin or beholden to him.

I read an article the other day saying that within 20 years the UK will become an armed Islamic state and that the US has a duty to act now to prevent it.

Greenland is not in the EU.

It’s an overseas territory of the EU. Greenlanders have EU citizenship. They voted out in the 1980s but they are definitely more in the EU having free movement, citizenship and receiving EU funding than the UK is after Brexit.

Rich white man syndrome, they’re taught from birth they have a right to do whatever they want.

OFGS. Look around the World at dictators then say it's "Rich White man syndrome."

Because I am interested in where this kind of information comes from and the type of sites favoured by someone who openly welcomes the UK being destabilised.

The Muslim Population of the UK is 6%, a majority of which are not Islamists.

How in earth, within 30 years, could anyone believe that this could happen ?

If you look at the pressures on Jess Phillips to ensure that she doesn't do her job properly because of the demographics of her constituency, then recognise that's not the only constituency with similar pressures. Then consider the left and their disposition in favour of Islam and imagine they might form a coalition. That's one scenario. This was the situation imagined by French author Michel Houellebecq in Subbmission, it is an interesting synopsis. Interestingly, by astonishing coincidence, it was published on the day on the Charlie Hebdo attack. I'm not suggesting I believe this will happen. I've just always been interested in fringe perspectives, from wherever.

Honestly, were you also so worried when Angela Merkel ordered phasing out nuclear power in Germany under pressure of people whipped into frenzy after the Fukushima disaster, making the vast swathes of European economy dependent on energy from a country with a long track record of hostile behaviour towards their European neighbours?

Were you also so worried when Crimea was annexed a couple of years later and everything we could do was to make sure that Ukraine won the Eurovision?

Why are people more concerned about stuff being said on Twitter than real life events and their consequences?

I think it's because he ( and musk ) thinks western liberalisation is destroying our known culture so he's putting pressure on to reverse it .

Musk yes, Trump I’d include economic strategies eg forcing stuff through potential tariffs
