Is it disrespectful/problematic to take a sex toy in hand luggage to Marrakech?

We are going to Marrakech for a holiday in a few weeks and I would like to take my vibrator.

I’m likely to take just cabin bags.

Will I encounter issues either going through or leaving the airport? I know it’s not illegal but I don’t want issues - or to appear disrespectful.

No judgments please, advice only.

I can’t see why it would be embarrassing or disrespectful. Vibes are pretty mainstream now. 🤷‍♀️

If you’ve got a vibe bag, just put it in that - I’d take the batteries out though. 🙂

You can't see why it would be disrespectful to expect security guards in a Muslim country to come across this?

MillyBar · 09/01/2025 13:40

You must respect their traditions. If it's a penis shaped dildo, make sure it's circumcised.😉

It's less that it's 'disrespectful' than that some countries have legal restrictions on the possession of sex toys, as linked above.

No that wasn't the question. It was if it was disrespectful / problematic. It is legal as the OP established.

Yeah, I mean how could the poor men who are paid to defend an airport against bombs, drugs and human trafficking COPE with a sex toy. SADFACE.

Google is your friend!!!

But apparently not yours. That clearly relates to the US as it says so and not Marrakech which is in a Muslim country.

OK, why is it disrespectful to show someone the sole of your foot in some ME countries?

Not a clue mate. Why is it?

Unnecessary comment

Why? The PP made a perfectly acceptable suggestion.
No need for your unnecessary response.
Enjoy vibrating on holiday

MrsPeregrine · 09/01/2025 13:49

Why would it be disrespectful? People probably take condoms in their luggage all the time.

I once made a security guy at a small airport gag. I was commuting by plane regularly, and had just thrown my wallet and passport into a bag I hadn't used in a fortnight, since the last time I flew -- and he put in his (fortunately gloved) hand and drew out a banana so black and soft it had disintegrated entirely, took one look and gagged, poor man.

I apologised literally every time I saw him for ages. I think his colleagues took to piss out of him...

Banana man 😂🍌

I think his colleagues christened him Puky! Poor man!

I think the comment about using my hand is judgemental about using a vibrator.

No, it's trying to save you the embarrassment of potentially having it taken out of your bag for goodness sake. Have you always been this sensitive?

Kenway01 · 09/01/2025 14:01

FKAT · 09/01/2025 13:46

Not a clue mate. Why is it?

From Google:

In many Arab, Muslim, Hindu, and Buddhist countries, showing the soles of your feet is a sign of disrespect, as they're considered the lowest and dirtiest part of the body, since they touch the dirty ground.

Becsahm · 09/01/2025 14:02

just go without for a few days and focus on the holiday, it's not that difficult

TwigletsAndRadishes · 09/01/2025 14:02

Is it? I think it's a really good point actually. Why risk having your luggage opened and rifled through by a bunch of men in a conservative Muslim country, getting your sex toy out and potentially waving it around in front of others because it's flagged up as an unidentifiable battery operated thing that has (ahem) aroused suspicion?

Sorry, quote fail. This was in response to your 'unnecessary comment' response to the person who said can't you just get by with your hand for a few days.

If you're upset by that comment, I suggest that taking a sex toy through customs may not be the experience you're hoping for.

I'm not sure it is fair on the security staff to put them in a position where they have to handle a used sex toy.

Sorely it could be in a clear plastic bag so they don't need to physically touch it

coxesorangepippin · 09/01/2025 14:06

Lol

Hopefully they won't come across it... already a bit icky.

And while we are on the subject, why should the poster not judge?

Growlybear83 · 09/01/2025 14:24

I think it would be seen as highly disrespectful to take a sex toy into a Muslim country and I think it could be an issue when your bag is scanned or searched on arrival. The immigration officers can be quite difficult in Morocco, and if you look at the list of items that you cannot take into the country, it includes 'all items contrary to morality and public order'. Whether you agree with this or not, I understand that vibrators are definitely classed as being 'contrary to morality' in some Islamic stated. Whilst the immigration officers in Marrakech probably deal with more westerners than many airports in North Africa/ the Middle East, I wouldn't like to take the risk of potentially upsetting them!

Barney16 · 09/01/2025 14:31

I would usually suggest you Google it but not sure that's a good idea. Certain countries it would be absolutely not, the UAE springs to mind. But I'm not sure about Morocco. To be honest I'm quite bemused by this. You could just use your imagination?
