Is it disrespectful/problematic to take a sex toy in hand luggage to Marrakech?

sleepitoff · 09/01/2025 11:26

We are going to Marrakech for a holiday in a few weeks and I would like to take my vibrator.

I’m likely to take just cabin bags.

Will I encounter issues either going through or leaving the airport? I know it’s not illegal but I don’t want issues - or to appear disrespectful.

No judgments please, advice only.

It's Mumsnet of course you'd get jumped on by some , you knew that when you posted. Maybe call the airline? They should have more info, just to be sure.

No, I genuinely did not think I would get
such a pile on. I wouldn’t have even dreamt of posting if I’d had an inkling.

Unnecessary comment

Not really. If you're that worried why would you risk it. Even if random strangers said it would be fine.

StrikeForever · 10/01/2025 22:08

@sleepitoff ignore to uptight idiots. Their comments are not worth your head space. 💐

legoeggs · 10/01/2025 22:11

Take an electric toothbrush?

Most people. Who wants their used sex toy on view in a busy security queue. The op seems ok with it though. She’s just sensitive to people on line.not in real life.

Yes, that's certainly how it's coming across anyway!😁

oakleaffy · 10/01/2025 22:44

sleepitoff · 09/01/2025 11:38

I think the comment about using my hand is judgemental about using a vibrator.

Not at all!
I’d not want the embarrassment of being caught with an ersatz penis in my luggage.

I was thinking more about confiscation.

I’m sure they can buy themselves a new one!

Arlanymor · 10/01/2025 23:02

Flozle · 10/01/2025 20:38

Yes, OP, take a long hard look at why you need mechanical help to achieve orgasm. Satisfaction is not a woman's right, you know 🙄

You've never heard of arthritis, rheumatism or manual dexterity disability?

But, yeah, sure, anyone with any of those has no right to use anything to assist them with pleasure? I guess they should all just crumble into dust?

Sorry just realised your eyeroll was sarcastic, my bad - was looking on my phone and then on my laptop the penny dropped - was catching up on some Victorian posts on here! Apologies, I agree with you.

CountessWindyBottom · 10/01/2025 23:08

I think I’d either opt to pay for a checked-in bag or else opt for a little bullet or something. I’ve a wand type one which I wouldn’t take to somewhere like Morocco simply because it’s a conservative country. I think the idea of buying something small and mighty that could sit in the tray along with make up etc is probably your best bet.

This looks perfect, I think I’ll get one myself

toxic44 · 10/01/2025 23:18

Every time I've gone through Customs at Marrakech I've been peeled like a grape, bags thoroughly inspected, camera opened to check what's within, strip searched by female officer. If the potential of that is okay with you, by all means take your toys.

Survivingnotthriving24 · 10/01/2025 23:20

Christ, plenty in need of a love honey order on this thread.

Anywhere else I wouldn't think twice OP, but conservative religious countries I'd probably pick up something over there and bin it instead of travelling home with it. I'm sure you'd likely be fine flying in with it, but not returning where your luggage will be scanned if you can even order something cheap and cheerful.

Hungryheart2025 · 10/01/2025 23:21

Anything that increases the risk of a delay at security would be no from me, and in Morocco you could be unlucky with a judgemental security guard, so there's a potential of being pulled aside for a further search, or even missing your flight home.

You could bring one over but don't bring it back as it will show up on a scanner in the airport as you leave, and I can't imagine anyone caring in Heathrow.

I put my little purple bullet in my make up bag, never got questioned or asked about it.

I have a little purple bullet too, that I keep in my bag that has things like painkillers, allergy meds, nail clippers and so on in it. I jokily call it my portable pharmacy. and that's exactly why the bullet is there. it's GREAT for if my back, neck or shoulders seize up. it's far too strong even on the lower settings to put anywhere near downstairs! but it's amazing on aches and pains.

StrawHatLuffy · 09/01/2025 12:31

With how tetchy OP is, probably needs a bigger one tbh. Or a Womanizer from Love Honey..

they're gooooood.
AND you might get away with saying it's a blackhead remover 😉

OP wants us all to know she loves a wank... she wants the security to know she loves a wank.... we are now all part of the wank...

Exactly. It's all quite tedious. She could easily ask Google but there's no thrill in that.

CrowleyKitten · 10/01/2025 23:55

NiftyKoala · 09/01/2025 14:32

I was behind someone who at security had an open container of sea salt. It triggered a search x ray whatever you call it. Let me say EVERYTHING shows clear. There it was a bright blue strap on. She was elderly and my sister and I were in shock! So really I would not risk the embarrassment.

good for her!

SexAndCakes · 10/01/2025 23:55

FCO travel guidance on Morocco says this:

Laws and cultural differences
Morocco’s laws and customs are very different to those in the UK and reflect the fact that Morocco is an Islamic country. Always respect local traditions, customs, laws and religions. Make sure your actions do not offend, especially during the holy month of Ramadan or if you plan to visit religious areas.

And this:

Pornography
It is illegal to possess pornographic material. This includes printed material, cassettes and videocassettes and any type of material contrary to morality and public order.

Obviously a sex toy isn't porn, but I think I would err on the side of caution going into Morocco. It's not like you have to take to, so why risk anything? I am a cautious traveller, though.

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 10/01/2025 23:59

I wonder how many shocked women on here own vibrators themselves?

Some of us want a daily orgasm and vibrators are quick and convenient.

Also, do people think Muslims don't use sex toys?

They aren't prohibited.

Triggered much? Did I say you specifically were racist? No. Pipe down with your assumptions and misconceptions. And I'm far from daft or ignorant. Lumping a whole nation of people together in one condescending description, as some have, is stereotyping and racist.

I'll do you the courtesy of assuming you're in need of a snickers with your reply. Not only have I visited as a tourist but I've also stayed with Moroccan families on several occasions who I got to know over several visits, and stayed in non tourist areas also, solo, but you neglect to reference that.

Whilst there are issues, there are issues in the UK and probably every other country aswell.

I am describing MY experiences, perhaps it is because I've been as more than "just" a tourist, perhaps because I'm respectful and streetwise but I've NEVER had issues when travelling solo or with 1 or both teen daughters and only a minor issue when with ExH. Perhaps if you get issues when you travel it's because you act a twat, if you're anything like on here, jumping on people for describing their experiences. Grow up.

You’re quite right, you didn’t specifically single me out to call a racist. You just threw out an unfair and unwarranted accusation of being an awful person and let posters wonder who you were aiming at. If you’re going to accuse people of abhorrent behaviour then at least have the courage of your convictions and point out exactly where you see racism. Grow up indeed.

And you can keep your courtesy thanks. I’m not talking about you, or your wonderful and memorable experiences with the many lovely people you’ve met there. Why would I reference them? It’s completely irrelevant to the point I was making, which is that there are levels of official corruption, religious extremism and Human Rights violations that go far above and beyond any problems we have in the UK, that some Moroccan women and children have it really rough there and that it is not a country where you can rely on officials to have the same attitudes towards women’s sexuality as you would find in the UK. You were the one who responded to something I’d written about it being ok to ignore all of that, just so long as tourists were having a nice time in the market.

Although thanks for the chuckle about you being ‘not just a tourist’. You’ve got tickets on yourself, haven’t you? A few holidays there and you think you’re a local. Yeah, I’m quite sure they all see you as far more special than ‘just’ a tourist. And I’m sure your friends think you’re really adventurous for going off the beaten track rather than a nice villa in Tuscany. So impressive.
