Is it disrespectful/problematic to take a sex toy in hand luggage to Marrakech?

We are going to Marrakech for a holiday in a few weeks and I would like to take my vibrator.

I’m likely to take just cabin bags.

Will I encounter issues either going through or leaving the airport? I know it’s not illegal but I don’t want issues - or to appear disrespectful.

No judgments please, advice only.

Was this recently? I came back from Marrakech this week, and aside from a lot of pointless queuing and extra stages at the airport (e.g. additional bag scans on the way in and out of the building, a second passport check immediately after the first one), they didn't seem that bothered about what was actually in our bags. The woman on the security conveyor wasn't even looking at the screen as mine went through.

About 5 years ago was most recent.

Have been going for about 30 years I think

StrawHatLuffy · 09/01/2025 12:31

With how tetchy OP is, probably needs a bigger one tbh. Or a Womanizer from Love Honey..

WishinAndHopin · 09/01/2025 12:32

Don’t risk it.

There are lots of horrors stories of Western women being groped and strip searched by customs in Arab countries. Don’t give them an excuse.

Just being they may not be against the law doesn’t mean the law will be applied fairly especially to a Western woman.

You can easily manage without it for one week.

I put my little purple bullet in my make up bag, never got questioned or asked about it.

They think it's lipstick?

Princessconsuelabananahammock9 · 09/01/2025 12:33

I don't see the problem..

I'm surprised so many would find this embarrassing.

Most people masturbate and many women use vibrators. They have seen it all at airports.

sleepitoff · 09/01/2025 12:33

I’m so not tetchy or sensitive! I just find some of these comments bizarre - I’m sorry if that makes me come across badly but it’s how I feel

Make sure you clean it at the other end, you don't know where their hands have been lol

Blimey! I’m rather more concerned about the poor security team potentially having to handle a used sex toy and knowing where that’s been. I hope they get danger money to afford the bleach.

Thegoatliesdownonbroadway · 09/01/2025 12:34

Please let us know how you got in, in a couple of years time, when they let you come home😀

I don't know how the word 'disrespectful' applies.

That's a word you'd use about maybe religious conventions (shoes off, heads covered etc) not a sex toy.

ItGhoul · 09/01/2025 12:34

sleepitoff · 09/01/2025 11:38

I think the comment about using my hand is judgemental about using a vibrator.

Oh, grow up. It's not remotely judgmental about using a vibrator. It was literally just a suggestion that if you're worried about taking a sex toy through the airport, your fingers are a viable alternative to get yourself off.

To answer your initial question, it's not illegal, or disrespectful, to bring a vibrator into Morocco for your own use. It's possible that it might be confiscated if your hand luggage is searched - frankly, it's possible that all sorts of things might be confiscated from hand luggage at any airport, for all sorts of reasons - but it would completely depend on the mood of the officer performing the search.

I did read that it has changed a lot since covid, as they're trying to encourage tourism. Everywhere in the Medina felt very safe, and airport was quite relaxed, if tedious.

Cherry8809 · 09/01/2025 12:35

A checked bag is one thing, but personally I wouldn’t to potentially put someone in the position of having to handle a used vibrator.

Sure, they may well have seen it all before, but that doesn’t make it any nicer for them.

God, women surely aren't doing that in airports. I know check-in queues are boring, but...

lol. I've been to Morocco, it's very conservative. You need to. Wear head covering and cover up. It just seems an awful idea. And risky.

Boomer55 · 09/01/2025 12:21

I can’t see why it would be embarrassing or disrespectful. Vibes are pretty mainstream now. 🤷‍♀️

If you’ve got a vibe bag, just put it in that - I’d take the batteries out though. 🙂

Not all countries are forward thinking, especially on the matter of sex etc

in the hands of Jason Bourne / John Wick (film character), anything is possible

I’m thinking of the scene in Crocodile Dundee ….”call that a knife? This is a knife”

FumingTRex · 09/01/2025 12:36

I think it is disrespectful to expect airport staff in a conservative Muslim country to have to handle or engage with your sex toy.

BlackStrayCat · 09/01/2025 12:37

Nobody is shocked you masturbate. People are answering your question.

No. Do not.

It looks like it is not legal and even if it is it would be foolish to argue, do you even speak French?

lol, that too, then the op would need the bad dragon range of toys

Agapornis · 09/01/2025 12:38

They didn't check my luggage on the way into Morocco. Usually luggage is scanned at the airport of departure, so by UK staff, not entry. So if anything, it could get confiscated on your way home.

Also re the Douane's list including writings - I've definitely brought a book or two on holiday. Possibly tourist privilege - you get away with more.

Edit: wtf re previous poster, you don't have to wear a scarf! Follow the local women's fashion. Plenty of them will be wearing jeans and a top. Obviously don't wander around in a bikini in markets etc.

Arlanymor · 09/01/2025 12:38

I think some people have really unnecessarily jumped all over the OP on this post - she's trying to ensure she doesn't break the law/cause disrespect on her travels - so she came on here to ask a question, which is admirable actually.

Wanting to take a vibrator on holiday doesn't mean:

  • You have a sex addiction where you have to get off your rocks every five minutes
  • You have a voyeuristic need for people to view your sex toy
  • You plan on packing a DIRTY toy just for fun and to disgust bag handlers

It just means that she wants to have fun on her holiday and - guess what - sex is fun! Also a toy is much less labour-intensive than your hand, there's no two ways about it.

Have a good time OP.

What exactly is it you're finding bizarre? That some posters would find it embarrassing if their vibrators were fished out of a cabin bag by airport staff at a security check? That people, some of whom know Marrakesh, are responding to a question you posted about not wanting 'issues' or to 'appear disrespectful' when transporting a vibrator in a cabin bag?

Gettingslimmer · 09/01/2025 12:40

Surprised at the whole they’ve seen it all stuff, sure they have, but I’d bet good money they don’t have daily vibrators in hand luggage to morroco. For the very simple reason most people would be far too embarassed and avoid that like the plague. Just look at the answers on here, no one is saying, yeah go for it, I do it all the time. So I’d assume it’s relavitely rare. Plus who wants to be handling someone else’s used sex toy, they don’t get paid enough for that.

i always take a hold bag now, ever since they thought they found something in my cabin bag, and searched it for ages, item by item, even laying my knickers out, in front of the busy queue, worked out it was a metal rod in the handle of my plastic hair brush. I swore then I’d always check a bag. And I do.

It's really not all that conservative, and you don't need to wear a head covering, or cover up that much (not like in e.g. Qatar or Saudi).
