Is it disrespectful/problematic to take a sex toy in hand luggage to Marrakech?

sleepitoff · 09/01/2025 11:26

We are going to Marrakech for a holiday in a few weeks and I would like to take my vibrator.

I’m likely to take just cabin bags.

Will I encounter issues either going through or leaving the airport? I know it’s not illegal but I don’t want issues - or to appear disrespectful.

No judgments please, advice only.

Triggered much? Did I say you specifically were racist? No. Pipe down with your assumptions and misconceptions. And I'm far from daft or ignorant. Lumping a whole nation of people together in one condescending description, as some have, is stereotyping and racist.

I'll do you the courtesy of assuming you're in need of a snickers with your reply. Not only have I visited as a tourist but I've also stayed with Moroccan families on several occasions who I got to know over several visits, and stayed in non tourist areas also, solo, but you neglect to reference that.

Whilst there are issues, there are issues in the UK and probably every other country aswell.

I am describing MY experiences, perhaps it is because I've been as more than "just" a tourist, perhaps because I'm respectful and streetwise but I've NEVER had issues when travelling solo or with 1 or both teen daughters and only a minor issue when with ExH. Perhaps if you get issues when you travel it's because you act a twat, if you're anything like on here, jumping on people for describing their experiences. Grow up.

Actually, I think there is a fair bit of judgement on this thread. Lots of remarks that suggest that what the OP is suggesting is offputting/disgusting. It's feels pretty prudish.

Whilst I probably wouldn't bother taking one, as it seems potentially a hassle, I totally understand why the OP would want to. Most women i know use and carry a vibrator with them when they travel.

Gosh, we obviously move in very different circles.

Unnecessary comment

Seems entirely relevant.

StrikeForever · 10/01/2025 18:59

It’s fine. I take mine in hand luggage because rechargeable electricals are not to be put in hold luggage. Mine is the largish shoulder massage looking type. A couple of times it started running inside my hand luggage case in the airport, sending the case traveling around on its own 😮 😂🤣 I have learned to let the charge run down. It was removed from my hand luggage at Dubai airport and I was asked about it. I told them it was a shoulder massager and it was fine.

As for the poster asking “can’t you just use your hand”. For many older women (speaking from experience), the answer is no. More stimulation is now required. No doubt there are younger women with that issue too. So wind your bloody neck in!

You'll have to taje tge batteries out or it will have to go in "the tray" at the airport

No it doesn’t

Why would you even want to go there, never mind take a vibrator !

Brightonseafront · 10/01/2025 19:38

I personally think it’s a bit tone deaf and of poor taste to carry a pink penis in hand luggage when travelling to conservative cultures where many are religious and would find it offensive, especially they might have to open/examine / touch it …i would be mortified … (not because I’m prude but because i would feel it is a bit inconsiderate/ selfish/ disrespectful to subject others, whether officials, families etc..to the sight of my used pink penis just because I’m cool and unembarrassed about it),… I think if you are concerned about being judged, chances are you would expose yourself to more judgement at airport setting, than on here,I would keep it in check in luggage out of sight and out of respect to a culture that is private and conservative, if you really want it in hand luggage I would go for something that can pass as a neutral massager rather than a body part. ( even a plastic hand, kidney or finger would spook many.. 😂)

MaroonedinWales · 10/01/2025 19:40

Mid twenties observant Jewish work colleague leaving for airport to holiday for a week after work in the mid 80's at an American Investment bank in London. Left his backpack unguarded while out for lunch. Cue inflatable sex doll planted in his backpack and he never complained to us on his return about him being stopped and throughly checked at both departures and arrivals while with his family. Dined out on that story for years and gained a lot of kudos for brazeninf it out. There are worse things than a purple vibrator to worry about in our world today.
Take some handcuffs too and you'll get some attention I imagine. Sweet that you would even have to ask.

ArtfulDenimSheep · 10/01/2025 20:06

I would just buy one when I got there as I would be embarrassed if my hand luggage was opened you would have to throw it away or risk it being found on your way back home. I was alright about the suggestion to opt for the manual alternative just for a few days.

seven201 · 10/01/2025 20:21

Last time I went to the airport you had to remove all electricals and put them in a separate tray to be checked. Whilst you may be comfortable putting a vibrator out on display, it may make the security person embarrassed and also wouldn't it be a hygiene issue and they have to clean the tray?! If you do it, put it in a clear bag so they don't have to handle it.

Nutribioadvanced · 10/01/2025 20:22

All this talk of 'used vibrators', it's nuts. I mean, these things get thoroughly washed and cleaned. You've probably got hairbrushes knocking around your bags that are dirtier than most women's vibrators.

I feel like this is a parallel universe with a type of women whom I've never met in real life

See you all.

Flozle · 10/01/2025 20:38

MinnieBalloon · 09/01/2025 12:18

You’re going on holiday. You should be able to survive without your vibrator and if you can’t you need to look at why that is.

Yes, OP, take a long hard look at why you need mechanical help to achieve orgasm. Satisfaction is not a woman's right, you know 🙄

sleepitoff · 10/01/2025 20:47

i appreciate all the responses - the indignation and the outrage!

for the record - my vibrator is very clean, I don’t particularly get off using my hand, I have a great sex life with my partner but we like sex toys and this is the mildest one to take. I feel no shame about asking this question and I’m sorry that so many of you felt the need to jump on me.

And yes, I do think there’s quite a lot of judgement here.

anyway, I will now sign off.

can you not survive with your hand for a few days?

I thought the same so consider this answer pretty relevant actually.. not at all "uneccessary". It not worth the worry of being hassled at the Moroccan customs. I just read it out to my (adult) daughter who is a travel agent and has heard it all before and she said "ffs! Why on earth can't she DIY it!!"

Why indeed! 🤷‍♀️

Deeperthantheocean · 10/01/2025 21:28

It's not something I would think of taking with me on holiday in hand luggage tbh, or any holiday. You have to decide if your need to is greater than the risk of possible embarrasment and just go with what you decide. I can't imagine it would be a huge deal if found and you're unlikely to see these people again so honestly just make the decision. Xxx

WhappleBee · 10/01/2025 21:48

Decided to leave a comment here bc it’s really pissing me off. Nothing to do with whether you should bring it or not.

People saying that it’s ridiculous to not be able to cope a week without one and worse… you do know disabled people exist? Not everyone can “just use their hand”. It’s one thing to answer the OP as if they are able bodied but some comments are getting very offensive tbh. You don’t have to insult people for needing to use a vibrator?

AngelinaFibres · 10/01/2025 21:53

sleepitoff · 09/01/2025 11:38

I didn’t use the word embarrassed. I asked if it would be an issue or disrespectful. I’m not embarrassed.

It would be disrespectful and also grim.
The comment about using your hand is the first thing that came into my head too.

BelleSauvage9 · 10/01/2025 21:54

So much judgement, I'm actually really surprised!

I took my bullet vibrator on holiday last summer op, it had to be in hand luggage as it was rechargeable (whatever kind of battery that makes it 🤷‍♀️) so I just put it in a clear bag ready for the machines and put it in along with my other electronics and liquids. No questions asked, wasn't really paying any attention to see if I got any funny looks but all was fine. I imagine sex toys are very common and seen a lot so not shocking for airport staff, though I understand why you've asked the question (I can't answer on that point specifically as I've never been to marrakech).

Also, for what it's worth, I struggle to orgasm without that additional help (fucking hell the judgemental and frankly insulting comments about why can't your hand suffice and looking at why that might be!?!) and wouldn't want to have unsatisfying sex on holiday.

FFS, I’m incensed enough to come back and say - who the fuck is your daughter or anyone else to have an opinion on how I should approach my sex life! and all the others who think they have a right to tell
me what I should go without sexually, or that something so ordinary is grim and all the other nauseating comments that need to be left in the fifties, where they belong.

i honestly just thought this would be a short, nothingy thread. What an eye opener.
