  1. Childminder announced they now finish at 5pm -was 530pm. They are "going to send me a new contract to sign". Hmm yeah but l am probably not signing it as l have a real job and 530pm is already waaaay to early. Time to find another childminder most likely
  2. Ex announces his girlfriend has moved into my road (for context the plan was for them to live together). Particularly odd as we live in a city with thousands of other roads and no shared children
  3. Drain man cancelled yet again so house still hums

@WhimsicalGubbins76 you must be joking about judges and barristers 🤣

I took it to mean there is no typical finish time, could be 8pm one day, then case goes short and no prep for once so a lucky 3pm finish another day (not a regular occurrence I know, I speak as a barrister albeit not practising these days). I also hope pp didn’t mean finishing at 4.30 because that’s when Crown Courts knock off, which I think is what you were getting at!

Sympathies. I used to work in a pub once upon a time and it’s hard work. I also used to live 6 doors down from a pub which l loved (great for Christmas Day as l could still cook lunch whilst at the pub, as it was a 2 minute walk). There were some NIMBY’s who lived on the road who couldn’t grasp the pub had been there long than them (think 50+ years) so why should it vanish when they turned up living there as they didn’t like living on the same road as a pub. So would try to stir stuff up for the landlord 🙄

If it’s any consolation l would LOVE a trip to the pub right now. Dry January is very over rated

Oh in my last pub that I managed, whereas this one I'm the landlady, we had a lady move in across the road

She was renting, so must have visited before signing up.

She was the bane of my life. Every week without fail she would moan about Fridays, we had a band on each Friday, finishing promptly at 10.30pm. I would do spot checks outside the perimeter to check sound leakage was minimal if any, had a decibel metre, doors windows closed. Couldn't have done more. After getting nowhere with complaints, she decided to scream abuse in my face.

Monday morning we get a letter from the council licensing team, she had said we were still open at 4am and had loud dance music playing. We had a license cut off of midnight and no live performance after 11pm. She was lying through her teeth but things have to be investigated. Luckily we had CCTV and sent time stamps of people leaving at 11.30pm, and then hourly until 5pm showing no one in the pub. My boss contacted her landlord and she was told to leave.

It's hard work but yeah it's getting there. Sometimes money worries me, and January is dead which is disappointing.

But yes, no more dry January!

@WillimNot Jesus she sounds like she was a nightmare! You'd think anyone who moved in opposite a pub would do some thinking and expect it to function like a pub during ordinary pub opening hours. It's worrying how easily a pub's licence can be threatened by vexatious complainers.

A pointless post.

Childminding is a real job. You are slagging off her job.

I don’t think OP was slagging off the child minder’s job, but the new hours being proposed. Most people would struggle to collect at 5. By Saying she has a real job she means typical/average time commitments at work.

Massive overreaction to OP’s post!
