I’ve put this on AIBU as it appears to be most read. A brilliant article about the rape gangs and the ensuing cover up.

But, that’s not the responsibility of others. If people don’t want their religion to be besmirched by those they say are not preaching the true Islam, they need to stand up, they need to stand up on Islamist nations and stop basically terrorist governments, they need to do this to create equality for women and people who are gay..they need to be standing up and reporting members of their community to the police where there are crimes. They need to be standing up to people like Tahir Ali who stands in parliament and basically says Islam is the only religion that should be protected. Christianity had the Reformation, Protestants protested against the practices and doctrine of the Catholic Church which they considered unchristian. People wanted change so much wars were fought and people gave their lives to ensure change, that spirit has carried on since. Maybe those who believe the most powerful voices in Islam are desecrating their religion need to do the same.

Agree again, Feelingathomenow, though it needs adding that we already have folk among muslim communities who are doing exactly this

Good luck finding anything about it in MSM though, because it isn't a narrative which suits. Worse still, though they'll pay lip service to "working with communities" our authorities - possessed of manic liberalism - will often ignore them in favour of the louder voices who only want to spread dissent

Also absolutely spot on, JRSKSSBH, but those who've carved themselves a nice little niche to disseminate their foul and deeply unislamic diktats are hardly going to volunteer to give it up

There was recently a very illuminating poster who advocated strongly for sharia law and "taking things to the elders" ... illuminating, that is, because although I'm sure this wasn't the intention they managed to illustrate exactly why it's such a lousy idea

Chilling indeed.

Greater minds than you or I widely accept this intersectional definition of racism over the older and outdated definition.

Oh oh I had intersectional on my bingo card! 🤞 crossed for a full house.

namechangeGOT · 08/01/2025 19:53

I wonder why it is that SYP want to shut up one of the victims of Rotherham? I mean it's not the first time that Sammys lived reality has been hushed up. A child rape victim, not allowed to speak up about her own rapes. Only in fucking Rotherham!

Ah so you advocate fear to shut down concerns about rape gangs raping children.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2025 19:54

Which means yes you can simultaneously do both- investigate all crime and protect the vulnerable.

The vulnerable in these cases were the teenage and younger girls being raped, not the adult Muslim men doing the raping.

I remember another young woman survivor did an interview on GB News and the police came to her house afterwards.

Islamophobia, racism, Brexit, gammons, racism (again), far right, racist… you missed out bigot, transphobes, Karen, Boomer.. Yadda yadda
And the thumbs up is a bit cringe.

If isn’t the student Union. No debate is over.

Don’t forget to hand your essay in.

Well I think HappyPanda is taking a course in Critical Race Theory and writing an essay about how white people must be held to a higher standard by the law in all areas because they have white privilege and are inherently racist. She used the word intersectional (I am waiting for structural and paradigm with bated breath). She’ll probably disappear off to the student bar soon.

Excellent article.

I can't understand why anyone wouldn't want an enquiry into this.

@HappyPanda613 It's a comforting place to argue from with dictionary definitions, and yes many 'great minds' would agree with you. It's the definition after all.

But think about the lived reality. A group of men happy to rape a child because she is white and therefore lesser than them? If it is not racist, what is it?
In a thought experiment where those men and that girl were the only people who existed, it would be racist.
But in our world, because there are other people (unrelated to this case) it is not?

HappyPanda613 · 08/01/2025 20:00

Why are people casually mocking the idea of white privilege as if it isn’t a tangible, identifiable facet of the human experience? Have the Americans all of a sudden joined the thread?

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2025 20:01

In what way do you think that better covers the rape of thousands of girls?

It's the Guaaaardian, darling

I’ll answer your question once you answer mine re whether a white person attacked in a majority Pakistani area of Birmingham because they are white is subject to racism. Was my son, the only white child in his geography class, ostracised because he wasn’t part of the ethnic group of the other class mates subject to racism?

Okay, well I’m out, this is now reaching X levels of insanity and hateful rhetoric and I need a mental health break badly.

I'm personally quite happy to have HappyPandia McGrath here with us on the thread to demonstrate the line of thinking we're all so frustrated with :)

Barr77 · 08/01/2025 20:06

HappyPanda613 · 08/01/2025 19:35

Well no actually, because it simply isn’t possible to be racist against white people, so the sentencing should be different to reflect that.

This is exactly what I mean by it being impossible to police without fear or favour in a pluralistic society. Racism against minorities is much more hurtful than perceived prejudice against the dominant culture. You can’t police both crimes in exactly the same way.

I've been reading your posts, and to be frank, I’m astounded by the lack of logic and nuance in your arguments. You’re either trolling, a plant by the very parties you claim are far-right, an A-level student repeating their year, or simply someone who’s run out of Christmas booze and is looking for a fight.
.
Let’s start with your claim that "it’s not possible to be racist against white people"—this is not only incorrect, but fundamentally flawed. You know this is silly. Racism isn’t about a simple reversal of who is being targeted—it’s about power dynamic
and systemic discrimination.

As for your comments on the grooming gangs, your failure to acknowledge the clear racial element is telling. The perpetrators in these cases often targeted working class white girls, deeming them "trash" based on their race and class. Your complete lack of reference to their suffering, and the way you gloss over the racial motivations behind these crimes, only highlights how out of touch you are with the reality of the situation.

As for your "compatibility theories" regarding Lord of the Rings and the far right—this is complete nonsense. You're trying to link completely unrelated ideas to create some ideological connection that simply doesn’t exist. It doesn’t come across as insightful—it just makes you seem ridiculous and desperate to find patterns where there are none.

I would suggest stepping away and breathe in some oxygen.

It's a labotomy you need, not a mental health break.
