I’ve put this on AIBU as it appears to be most read. A brilliant article about the rape gangs and the ensuing cover up.

This guy presents the facts. Allison Pearson is just jumping on the latest right wing bandwagon wagon, as is her wont.

His name is right there and the article is behind a paywall so I can't see it so how is anyone to know its not about Musk and/or doesn't feature him heavily.

These poor girls were used by men for sex and are now being used by men for political reasons, i don't need to read an article to know that

Mirabai · 08/01/2025 12:11

In the early days when these crimes were being ignored within the communities the cause was far more misogyny than it was fear of being labelled racist. The police didn’t see the girls as victims of abusers they saw them as teen slags not worthy of concern. The male dominated council was the same. It was individual women who fought hard to blow the whistle.

OneAmberFinch · 08/01/2025 12:12

HappyPanda613 · 08/01/2025 12:04

Why are you being so hostile towards me? This is exactly what I am scared about, the far right have made everybody so angry at each other and attack each other over crimes that were committed years ago. Can’t you see you are being manipulated by extremists who want to destabilise the west and sow discord between communities to further their own twisted agenda?

I thought your first post must have been ironic but you're serious?

"Crimes that were committed years ago"

Guess it's alright then.

It was actually Andrew Norfolk.

Grumpyoldpersonwithcats · 08/01/2025 12:13

Can anyone explain why the Conservative Government didn't do anything about this in 2022 when the inquiry published its findings?

Or even take the report to Cabinet? Nadine Dorries dropped them right in it last night.

Please stop attributing motives to my posts, I really don’t want to be wrongly labelled as someone who doesn’t care about the lives of young girls.

As for my comment about the crimes being years ago, well they are aren’t they? I think I remember someone saying this was way back in 2013, so a lot of time has passed since then, and lessons have been learned.

What hasn’t been learned, evidently, is the true scandal in this country, which is the mass scale of abuse perpetrated by white British men. Apparently shining a spotlight on the demographic who are most likely by far to abuse young girls is too inconvenient for the far right, don’t you think?

FrothyCothy · 08/01/2025 12:18

These types of crimes are very much ongoing, not historical.

OneAmberFinch · 08/01/2025 12:19

I think a bit more scrutiny on the individual councils involved instead of focusing exclusively on finger pointing at the national level would be justified.

The more I read the more I'm convinced that many people on the relevant councils didn't just "not want to act out of political correctness" but were actively corrupt and involved in the coverup if not participants themselves.

But you are happy to have thousands of rapes swept under the carpet?

This is the attitude that led to all this.

No. What I am happy for is the current government to continue to work behind the scenes to bring justice to any and all who have been victims of child sexual exploitation.

What we don’t need is for all of this to be dredged up into the realm of public opinion, where it is likely to radicalise working class men against the authorities, and against communities who just want to live their lives in peace.

PeppyGreenFinch · 08/01/2025 12:24

BIossomtoes · 08/01/2025 12:15

Or even take the report to Cabinet? Nadine Dorries dropped them right in it last night.

She waffled on about Covid and Ukraine as excuses. And that it was very common for recommendations from enquiries not to be implemented.

And then said it’s better now because Conservatives can put pressure on Labour to implement the recommendations.

RoaRiRi · 08/01/2025 12:24

Tory hypocrites. They did fuck all about this when they were in power.
Jess Philips has campaigned tirelessly about violence against women and children. Name a Tory politician who has done the same???
Elon Musk is a egotistical and dangerous fascist. He does not give a shiny fuck about women and girls. What he wants is to discredit Starmer, highlight is own political power and whip up racism in the UK. Fuck him. And fuck the Telegraph.

BIossomtoes · 08/01/2025 12:25

PeppyGreenFinch · 08/01/2025 12:22

How very convenient. His journalism was excellent in this instance, so much so that The Times editor put him on this story full time for several months when he broke it. He was the first to join the dots.

She was quick to dismiss what happened in Germany in NYE. 100s of women were SA but Jess Philips laughed it off when asked about it.

what else has she done for women / girls?

WinWhenTheyreSinging · 08/01/2025 12:27

I'm no Musk fan, but him drawing huge attention to this situation and robbing people of the ability to sweep it under the carpet is fine by me. Excellent article.

How is it relevant to be discussing these things on mumsnet, or x, or Facebook? These crimes took place years ago and are being dealt with by the Labour government. All this discourse serves is to whip up angry sentiment against multiculturalism and encourage communities to distrust one another.

What's your opinion on the thread active now about how awful the Taliban is for women in Afghanistan?

Please, can we stop talking about this already? It’s been days now and it will only further embolden the far right!
