I’ve put this on AIBU as it appears to be most read. A brilliant article about the rape gangs and the ensuing cover up.

Also, misogynists or not, many people do give a fuck about children being raped.

This is what I find absolutely shocking.

Rather a cover up than have a difficult conversation. Absolutely shocking on a site like mumsnet which mainly attracts mothers.

As regards Islamophobia - I think we should be concerned about Islam. The very fact that a Muslim parliamentary lobby group is trying to introduce a blashphemy law (Islamophobia law) is itself very worrying.

Dolphinnoises · 08/01/2025 17:31

The difference between Allison Pearson’s article and the interview with Andrew Norfolk, is that Andrew Norfolk makes clear that as DPP, Keir Starmer made changes to ensure more people were prosecuted over this scandal.

And Jess Phillips has done more for VAWG than most of the rest of the House of Commons put together.

There is a marked difference between those trying to stoke division / get clicks by posturing and those who are actually working to make things better in this area. It’s a bit bloody rich / shameless for Kemi Badenoch to make capital out of this since they had plenty of opportunity to act on the Jay report and didn’t

Islamophobia is probably the biggest issue facing the country at this moment and expanding the definition somewhat is necessary to combat bad faith actors who seek to destabilise our country and attack innocent minorities who just want to be left to practice their faith in peace and away from riducule by the secular majority.

Don’t try to politicise this any more than it already is.

I totally agree and I'm tired of worrying that I'll be accused of being 'far right' for being concerned about this.

Surely all sane people care about that. My point, which you’ve still missed, is that some people care about it a lot more when they can use it to serve the agenda of inflaming islamophobia in society (enabling people to feel justified in using a phrase such as ‘Muslim monsters’ on this thread for example) and rather less - at least publicly- when they can’t. Otherwise why stoke all this up again now but not discuss for example the Camborne case (white gang)

Because the Cambourne case saw the perpetrator brought to justice - convicted at least.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2025 17:39

Because these gangs are a specific phenomenon with common features. It's being "stoked up again now" because it's a massive injustice nationwide, and the inaction means that people with other agendas are going to use it. That doesn't mean everyone should STFU about it, and they aren't going to.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2025 17:41

'm supportive of the Telegraph or any other mainstream/broadsheet papers covering this. I think if you're concerned about misinformation from X, Reddit etc then you should support mainstream papers, which do have some legal safeguards around libel, factually correct information.

Obviously like every paper they have an angle, bias and preferred political outcomes - but that is usually reflected in the stories they choose to publish, rather than by reporting actual fake information.

I think there are a number of people who are coming to the story now via the national papers' reporting, who wouldn't have seen the original screenshots on X, or who weren't sure if they could trust them to not be doctored.

Yes, some very good points.

Islam is, not islamophobia. You just need to look to Islamic countries; Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon, Pakistan, Parts of Nigeria, Libya, etc to see why we should be very concerned. Or see how blasphemy laws are used to attack religious minority groups in those countries.

How can you say I am the one politicising this when there is a Muslim lobby group in parliament?

notnorman · 08/01/2025 17:43

Seriously? Think you need a reality check

I’m sorry, I’m just sitting here in tears at what I’m reading in front of me, thinking of a young Pakistani woman, maybe from Rotherham or Oldham, newly pregnant and excited to share in the vast wealth of knowledge from all the amazing mothers on mumsnet, only to chance upon this thread and have all that hope and excitement stripped away in an instant by the horrible words cast upon her and her community.

What has happened to the people of this country? Where has all the empathy gone? We were building something incredible and finally, after a rough 14 years it looked like we were right back on track when the public emphatically selected Labour to be at the head of our nation. And now mere months have passed and this is what we have turned into?

Yep. Pakistani men are no more likely to rape or organise a gang to do so white British/European Ethnicity. FACT.

FACT - white men rape. Individually, in gangs and in institutions and it gets covered up/brushed away.

Hypocrisy

IronCoral · 08/01/2025 17:43

No more likely to do so than white men

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2025 17:45

Yes. We know this. Men rape. It isn't relevant to these specific gangs. It is whataboutery.

OneAmberFinch · 08/01/2025 17:47

There's literally an active thread right now about how horrible the Taliban is - shall we get that banned for Islamophobia?

HermioneWeasley · 08/01/2025 17:49

@HappyPanda613

I’m sat here feeling physically sick hearing what those girls have been through? Do I win? Because your imaginary scenario you’ve made up in your head has brought yourself to tears whereas I can’t bear to read about the actual torture endured by little girls.

if the Pakistani Muslim community don’t want to be tarred by this then they need to step up and expel/ shame the members of their community that they know full well are doing this and support investigations. I can’t see any evidence that’s happened. Quite the opposite in fact.

I think you're naive if you really believe this. Research in other European countries, who track nationality, have confirmed that certain nationalities are more lively to commit SA.

HermioneWeasley · 08/01/2025 17:51

And @HappyPanda613 ”islamophobia” is not the biggest issue facing the UK today and you sound completely out of touch when you claim it is.

I hold my hands up and admit until fairly recently I didn't know the scale of this. Someone posted the judge's sentencing remarks from Oxford and I read them - how I wish I hadn't, and yet I'm glad I did as it opened my eyes.

I don't know how anyone having read anything about these cases could want us to stop talking about it, brush it under carpet in case it offends any religious groups. The victims are the important ones here and I really can't understand how anyone can offended by investigations and talking about cover ups and the ethnicity of the perpetrators.

Funny. I was raped by a white British male. And I believe I am not the one. Complete Ted Bundy vibes. I haven't even reported the rape, so I am not even a fucking statistic.

IronCoral · 08/01/2025 17:58

Not the only one who's been rated by him.

IronCoral · 08/01/2025 17:59

raped but I was also rated by him, I believe
