I’ve put this on AIBU as it appears to be most read. A brilliant article about the rape gangs and the ensuing cover up.

Please, can we stop talking about this already? It’s been days now and it will only further embolden the far right!

we should stop talking about the cover-up of the abuse of thousands of girls?

Women and girls are always at the back of the queue, we should stay there?
No.

Longwaysouth · 08/01/2025 15:00

So why oh why didn't the Conservative Government do something about it when in power. Or why didn't they act on the in 2022?

Most of this was publicised at the time. Absolutely vile what happened to these girls.
It is a horrific read. We should be acting on it now and making the local authorities do in depth scrutiny and naming and shaming. I do agree if you are an immigrant and you have done horrific crimes that you should serve your sentence an be returned yo their country of origin.

Although, that does not stop 2nd or 3rd generations having perverse attitudes. The culture has to change within the community.
Anyone with knowledge of abuse should be held responsible if they do not report it.

Name and shame.

It is not only their culture that has to change we should be asking what is wrong with society that these young girls were seeking attention.
We let these girls down and many more. We as a society and community need to nurture our young people.

By the way I am not a Labour voter

Fartypants83 · 08/01/2025 15:00

Instead of right wing faux outrage lead by overrated, overly rich pied pipers, OP may want to listen to an actual journalist who worked on the case. A fascinating listen that doesn't further abuse these poor girls for political ends.

Which happened many years ago under previous governments. Seriously I worry about the direction that mainstream media like the Telegraph is taking in this country. Right wing is one thing. Far right disinformation is another.

HappyPanda613 · 08/01/2025 12:04

Why are you being so hostile towards me? This is exactly what I am scared about, the far right have made everybody so angry at each other and attack each other over crimes that were committed years ago. Can’t you see you are being manipulated by extremists who want to destabilise the west and sow discord between communities to further their own twisted agenda?

What a terrifying response. Crimes committed years ago!!???? I mean seriously?????????????

I'm so sick of identity politics with everyone being labelled 'far right extremist' should they dare have an opinion.

Stop trying to silence people. That is extremist. That is anti democratic.

Agreed, an excellent interview and a balanced and factual take. Just concerning that we can no long rely on our mainstream media to cover news this way.

  1. It's not a brilliant article imo as it's in the Torygraph so biased from the off.
  2. It praises the muskrat. A man who is trying quite hard to affect a number of democracies including our own,
  3. It's behind a paywall.
I know I sound terse, OP and for that I apologise.

No need to apologise - you're being concise, not terse!

I’m sorry, I’m just sitting here in tears at what I’m reading in front of me, thinking of a young Pakistani woman, maybe from Rotherham or Oldham, newly pregnant and excited to share in the vast wealth of knowledge from all the amazing mothers on mumsnet, only to chance upon this thread and have all that hope and excitement stripped away in an instant by the horrible words cast upon her and her community.

What has happened to the people of this country? Where has all the empathy gone? We were building something incredible and finally, after a rough 14 years it looked like we were right back on track when the public emphatically selected Labour to be at the head of our nation. What I see is shameful Islamophobia on the thread once again. Yes, these incidents were bad but to maintain harmony in all our communities it is time to move on from the angry daily fail readers. The far right are once again pushing their hateful agenda which concerns me far more than crimes many years ago. My husband is Pakistani, I am white British and I am disgusted with the far right appearing once again on MN trying to set us back with potential racism once again.

Labour will not support a national enquiry and it is now time to move on and focus on the future which is multi cultural Britain that benefits us all. We must NOT demonise refugees, muslims or ethnic minorities in this fashion which is the priority of any sane government. Musk is clearly insane and of too low intelligence to even talk about further. As for the Telegraph, don't make me laugh as it is basically nazi propaganda. If it appears in the Guardian - a sensible and balanced newspaper then by all means share it.otherwise don't bother. I won't tolerate bigots, racists or islamophobes and hope mumsnet HQ are watching carefully

Do you think the girls who survived this are able to 'move on'? They were tortured and the authorities looked the other way in order to 'maintain harmony'. They were left with physical and psychological injuries and no support. They have been given criminal records from being abuse victims - aside from the injustice of that, they then can't 'move on' and get jobs because they have a criminal record. They have had to bring up children they were impregnated with under age by rape, and the authorities forced them to expose those children to contact with the abusers.

it is now time to move on and focus on the future which is multi cultural Britain that benefits us all. We must NOT demonise refugees, muslims or ethnic minorities in this fashion which is the priority of any sane government

The iteration of multicultural Britain in those towns didn't benefit us all, did it? It didn't benefit those abused girls. And fear of being accused of racism got us where we are now, with raped girls being sold out in the name of community relations.

Musk is clearly insane and of too low intelligence to even talk about further.

I don't give a shit who brought it up, it needs to be talked about. You can't sweep wrongdoing under the carpet because you don't like the messenger.

If it appears in the Guardian - a sensible and balanced newspaper

The Guardian thinks men are women and deliberately lied about both the Cologne sex attacks and WiSpa as the reality didn't suit their agenda. If you think the Guardian is sensible and balanced I've got a bridge to sell you.

My friends very much consider themselves left wing. Remainers- as that seems to make a difference on MN.

They are outraged.

As they should be.

Many of the victims still think implementing the recommendations should take priority over yet another inquiry.

Which specific recommendations? They aren't exactly groundbreaking. And why can't we have both? The 2022 inquiry wasn't adequate or focussed enough. It's great that they've belatedly decided to implement though, you have Musk to thank for that I think.

I agree we need both. Implementation of the recommendations without delay and a national enquiry to specifically address this type of CSA.

We do not know the scale of the abuse, how organised it was or why the victims were so badly let down everywhere.

There are questions which need to be answered but have not been asked yet.

PeppyGreenFinch · 08/01/2025 15:07

Wampyr · 08/01/2025 14:01

Nope. I believe she was groomed. I’m also broadly pro immigration. I just think all child rapists should be treated equally under the law whatever their race religion or gender, and that has not been happening. Many more like me!

Sure there are people using this whole mess for political gain, but to say anyone who mentions it is racist or far right is totally wrong and totally unproductive. Some of us just care about girls!

Where are your calls for the implementation of the recommendations from the 2022 enquiry?

Can you link your posts here?

No it is not Islamophobia. We should be able to talk about differences in values between different ethnic groups without fear of being called racists. Multiple surveys showed that Muslims in the UK have different social attitudes to women, homosexuality, sex outside marriage etc.

The fact that victims were predominantly from white background also proves there are some clear racial lines along which perpetrators operated.

Ereshkigalangcleg · 08/01/2025 15:11

Exactly. If this was reversed it would be considered racial hate crime, and rightly so.

I agree that the Conservatives are as complicit in the cover up as Labour but I do think we should acknowledge that they formed a Grooming Gang Task Force which has been active since April 2023. It's not enough but it's a start.

No, trying to silence people on this issue by calling them racist or far right is how this horror went on for far too long. It’s neither of these things to believe that this issue deserves a proper impartial investigation.

The Post Office and Blood scandals happened many years ago too. Was it far-right to have enquiries about those too?

MyrtlethePurpleTurtle · 08/01/2025 15:14

Mirabai · 08/01/2025 12:11

In the early days when these crimes were being ignored within the communities the cause was far more misogyny than it was fear of being labelled racist. The police didn’t see the girls as victims of abusers they saw them as teen slags not worthy of concern. The male dominated council was the same. It was individual women who fought hard to blow the whistle.

Quite! I remember that very well - teenage slags and prostitutes not my words) who had made 'certain lifestyle choices'

I haven’t mentioned that on this thread and don’t claim to. The only reason I started posting was because people were being told to forget about girls being taped and called fat right for caring about it which pissed me off.

Obviously they should be implemented it as others have said, that report didn’t even look into the half of it, so it’s not nearly enough!

if you think it’s some gotcha then sorry it’s not and I don’t care.

I would have thought as mums to be they would be absolutely horrified at the thought of young girls having to live in the towns of rapists, in many cases - the men that raped them, and would want to stand in the condemnation of these men? And the authorities that willfully allowed it.

The same as I would with the Christian faith.

I hope your tears are for the poor poor victims.
