Off the lead and enjoying a run around, we were the only people in that area of the national trust park,
It was closed to cars and not many people brave (or stupid) enough to walk.

We stumbled upon a lovely little family of snowmen,
however the one that she could reach was a really small but brilliant feathers McGraw with a carrot for a beak. I was going to take a photo and realised she's pinched his beak and ate it!

She's never stolen anything before but she was so fast!

Because it is NOT light-hearted to those of us who are sick of being irritated by dogs and their selfish owners - I do not want my children having food snatched out of their hands by a dog, and it's not funny - seems many dog owners think that it is. If I have convinced any dog owner to take better control of their dogs and not allow this behaviour, that is a good thing, and why I commented.

I wasn't bothered by dogs until the last 10 or so years, when it seems owners are becoming more and more slack about appropriate dog behaviour.

Right but there is cool feature on Mumsnet that lets you start your own thread…

It means you can discuss themes that you care about and will likely draw others in that feel the same. In this instance that might have been the better option for those who did not find the above 4 legged sausage roll, carrot and show assailants neither cute or funny.

My guess is this might be met with, “this is an open forum, my opinion is valid as anyone else yady yady ya” but sometimes you just have to go with these are not my people and scroll on!

Then people would have complained about it being a TAAT. And really, I don't want to spend all day chatting about dogs. I wanted to raise a couple of points on a relevant thread where dog owners are talking about anti-social dog behaviour although they don't see it as such. I don't want to talk in an echo chamber.
And it's not in the dog section.

The fact that it's on AIBU would make it likely to encourage heated debate, that's the nature of the beast. If you wanted to keep it happy, funny and exclude those who are "not your people", surely you'd get a better response if the thread was started within The Doghouse...? That's where most of the seriously doggy people are.

But it wasn’t relevant and you do seem to have quite a lot to say about it.

It was thread full of joy and the funny natures of peoples pets not one to barge into passive aggressively with an unpopular opinion and expect people to bow wow down with the error of their way.

As you can see, it’s not gone very well.

Will also laugh at the thought of all our 4 legged friends with their cheeky pinched carrots being anti social ASBO hooligans for the rest of the day!

MissysMeemaw · 08/01/2025 10:59

Again then: it is NOT joy to those of us who don't appreciate this bad behaviour. That's the point of my commenting on this very thread. You can see why so many of us are disliking dogs these days.

Tbf I didn’t appreciate it was on AIBU, I just spotted it on trending this morning and it made me smile until I got to the bit where people started ruining it.

Maybe I’m too old in the tooth now but regardless of where a post is, I just wouldn’t have the energy (or the heart) to come on a fairly joyful thread and try to make an unpopular point just because I could.

I’d either scroll on or write up my own.

But you commented on a popular thread where everyone was enjoying talking about their pets and retelling stories and pictures of their personalities.

Whether you agreed with it or not what did think you were going to achieve by coming in with an unpopular opinion in the midst.

Hope to kill the vibe of the thread?! Make all us reckless owners see the error of their way and reflect of what a burden our dogs behaviour are to society (this was never going to happen!) start some kind of reform and boycott us all out?!?

It was a thread with lots of cute pictures of dogs and a funny story about an opportunist pinching a carrot and I will end our lovely chat as I started.

Sometimes you just have to think these are not my people and scroll on.

Thats a bit much
That poster is a bit of a fun sponge and I was amongst those who hoped they would bugger off BUT this is quite nasty

MsBorealis · 08/01/2025 11:39

What the hell happened to this thread?!

I hope we can bring the thread back to the original sentiment, in this world of bad news, it's ok to have a laugh about our dogs without having to add a million caveats to cover allergies/aggressive dogs/actual bad be/other blindingly obvious bad stuff. Just a bit of fun.

Our dog joined our family 4 years ago and has truly brought a lot of fun and laughter to the whole family.

I think she'd probably also steal a carrot from an unattended snowman ⛄️.

Theres also a fine line between valid viewpoint and going on and on about the same thing to the extent that it makes you look unhinged.

No not if your child now has a phobia thanks to presumptiuous dog owners that always assume their dog can do no wrong.

I see it time and time again. Lax boundaries and then a cheerful “sorry” and on you go thinking nothing of it. No matter what the dog has done.

While you go off and walk your dog today think nothing of its misdemeanours, I have a long term problem that’s going to cost time, money and a considerable amount of stress to sort out, if it is even possible to sort out.

Yet still you think it’s funny to have dogs bound up to a child and nick it’s stuff.

and yes this is an echo chamber of dog owners loving on their dogs failing miserably to show any accountability for what they may have caused.

So putting this the other way around, can my 6 year old son just rock up to your dog and take its ball out of its mouth? Snatch it, like a dog does with a carrot?

And I say, “Sorry, I can’t control him! Haha! Sorry to your dog. My son is just a bit out of control. Sorry, ball’s gone, your dog will just have to cope.”

Of course that’s not going to happen because your dog will probably bite my DS or at the very least nor give up the ball. Dogs have sharp teeth and a very strong bite as you fully know.

You hold an unfair position and you abuse it.

Hoppinggreen · 08/01/2025 11:46

@PlopSofa what are you talking about? Where has my dog approached a child?

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/01/2025 11:49

If the dog had not got the carrot, I'm sure another animal would have got it.

I’m fine thank you. Just hope I’m finally knocking some sense into all of you so you understand a non-dog owning point of view around children.

And that’s no valid response at all.

Telling me to watch my heart is just deflecting from the truth from what I wrote above. You offer nothing in response to that to counter it because it’s true.

MsBorealis · 08/01/2025 11:52

@PlopSofa you seem really upset, and I'm sorry you're feeling that way but you're jumping on people who really don't behave badly or allow their animals to behave badly, me for example. Not deserved.

I offer nothing except mockery because its the best way to deal with someone as over the top and hysterical as you are being here.
We get it, your son is scared of dogs, sorry to hear it, lets all move on.

PlopSofa · 08/01/2025 11:56

Having a phobia of dogs is not hysterical. It’s a serious issue. I am not hysterical.

You are the one using inflammatory/mocking/hysterical language saying I’ll give myself an aneurysm. I wonder if you’re this blind to your own dog’s behaviour? You certainly seem to be blind to your own.

Hoppinggreen · 08/01/2025 12:02

Dogs don't cause dog phobia, people do.
Might want to have a bit of a look at your behaviour @PlopSofa to see why your son reacts so badly to dogs. So many children have had similar experiences or worse and are still not frightened of dogs
If your writing style reflects how you are IRL then I imagine your over the top reaction is unhelpful in relation to your sons fear.
I was walking past a mother and son with my well behaved and perfectly under control dog on a lead and the woman thrust her son behind her so he was no where near my dog - I remember thinking thats how you cause a fear of dogs

Fleurdalys · 08/01/2025 12:09

@PlopSofa
Bloody hell
Are you still here? 🤦‍♀️
