Off the lead and enjoying a run around, we were the only people in that area of the national trust park,
It was closed to cars and not many people brave (or stupid) enough to walk.

We stumbled upon a lovely little family of snowmen,
however the one that she could reach was a really small but brilliant feathers McGraw with a carrot for a beak. I was going to take a photo and realised she's pinched his beak and ate it!

She's never stolen anything before but she was so fast!

Dogs don't cause dog phobia, people do.
Might want to have a bit of a look at your behaviour @PlopSofa to see why your son reacts so badly to dogs. So many children have had similar experiences or worse and are still not frightened of dogs
If your writing style reflects how you are IRL then I imagine your over the top reaction is unhelpful in relation to your sons fear.
I was walking past a mother and son with my well behaved and perfectly under control dog on a lead and the woman thrust her son behind her so he was no where near my dog - I remember thinking thats how you cause a fear of dogs

Ah, I see your point now, this is beyond seeing some dog owners as irresponsible (which, as we all agree, some are), and well into the realms of instilling fear of all dogs.

vodkaredbullgirl · 08/01/2025 12:13

My eyes are hurting from rolling them so much 😆

Edited

yep, I have a friend who is terrified of dogs, probably because she grew up in a place where there were street dogs who may have been dangerous/carried rabies.
When she had DC she said that she was absolutely determined that her DC wouldn't be afraid as well. She really tried but wasn't able to control her gut reaction to dogs and her DC were indeed intially scared of dogs too until she was able to put into place a plan to de sensitise them - it worked for her too so was actually a great thing to do. Very brave of her IMO as well as very self aware .
My DC have been knocked over by dogs, DD was actually bitten by a neighbours dog in circumstances that were nobodys fault really. She has had a pet sitting business for several years now alongside studying and is one of the biggest dog lovers you will ever meet.
So yes, people should control their dogs and ensure that no child has a traumatising experience but IF something does happen its on us as parents to try and mitigate that as best we can so there are no long lasting effects.

OR they can come on a lighthearted thread about how funny our beloved pets can be and absolutely go off on one

One of our dogs overturned the bin and when I got home she was wearing the swing bin lid as a necklace.

It was indeed, Someone mentioned up thread that their husband had Pavloved their dog with carrots, I’ve done the same. I wait till I’ve finished chopping before Daisy gets hers, so I can enjoy that soppy face resting on my leg and pretend she’s devoted to me.

I treated myself to a cream cake on Sunday. Popped it on a plate, made a hot chocolate, put both on the table whilst I grabbed a treat for doggo.

I turned back around to find my dog on the table, an empty plate and cream on her whiskers! Seconds, I'd had my back turned, seconds, I tell you!

Sn000w · 08/01/2025 13:42

@LaLoba I would do that too!!

We've got 3 dogs,

Colin

My last DDog disgraced himself spectacularly, if he saw an open door for some reason he had to go through it I have no idea why. We are away on holiday and he was off lead paddling in a Loch. I suddenly heard some voices in the distance and noticed a small hotel with some people talking outside with one pinning open a door. DDog also sae this and decided now would be a good time to forget all recall and go and explore the hotel! He bolted through the door with me following as fast as I could calling him back, I heard a comotion as he did laps of I'm guessing the dining room, he then ran upstairs and did a lap of the landing with me trying to rugby tackle him unsuccessfully, he ran back down the stairs and out of the door back to DH who was in the hotel garden wondering where we had gone as I limped behind apologising profusely as I left the hotel.

I loved that dog but my god he was a twat at times.

CorsicaDreaming · 08/01/2025 13:49

McGraw had it coming to him after that stunt he pulled with the turnip.

Your dog is a National Treasure, madam.

This is fantastic!

Our old dog ran away 2 weeks after we moved house to a brand new area. I hadn't even had chance to change the address on his collar, thank goodness my phone number was the same!

3 hours after he went missing I get a phone call from the owner of a care home about 300 yards away up a hill. He had taken himself off on an adventure, wandered into the open door of the care home and been treated to a roast dinner and so much love and affection from the residents and staff.

It was only when the owner came over to do some paperwork that he realised there was a dog in the lounge of the care home being fed left overs from the residents lunches.

The staff had seen how much joy he brought them and left them all to it!

I went and collected him and apologised profusely to which they asked me to come back with him the following month and he went up there (accompanied) every month for 8 years before he died.

@Sn000w honestly my old boy was a nightmare he did have recall and was very good but very now and then if he chose to disgrace himself he put his heart into it 🤣. My little DDog i have now visits DF in his care home and is very popular, a lot of the residents make a beeline for her and love to tell me all about their own dogs, it's so lovely to see the smiles she puts on their faces. Current DDog has impeccable recall thankfully and will.stop in her tracks the minute she is told too (my nerves couldn't take another free spirit 😀)

DDog (and the D stands for Dreadful) had to be shut away when I was moving home, I was moving about ten metres down the road and if anyone left a door open on either house she'd be in there. But she knew it was wrong and she'd hide and go very quiet. I'd suddenly realise that nobody had seen Dog for a while and we'd be searching about around two houses, both full of packed boxes and rubbish and usually find that she'd got shut in one of the cupboards under one of the sets of stairs. Honestly, I'm surprised she's still with us..

Pissing on someone's snowman is disgusting. You are exactly why normal people think dog people are weird.
