To think that Musk is now overstepping himself and the UK gvt should threaten action

Musk has just posted this on twitter (among other unhinged tweets). To me this reads as a thinly veiled threat to democratically elected UK MPs and actually the UK government should consider sanctions to the US if he continues this attack when he enters the White House?

Trump was democratically elected twice. Plenty of kvetching over that, people call him a tyrant and would be very grateful for foreign intervention. Don't see you telling them they're "liars".

Are you expecting her to police the whole internet and call out everyone?

You called Starmer a treasonous petty tyrant. I can't see anything that he's done that can even be close to treason or tyranny.

Your description of him is so ridiculously hyperbolic that it's easy to dismiss as someone with a political axe to grind. Someone who supports a political party like a child supports their favourite youtuber

Who has called Trump a tyrant on MN? he operates within the parameters of the US constitution.
Can't call someone out for something only you have imagined.

He may prove pretty dangerous to the UK and Europe with his views on the EU, Ukraine, NATO and tariffs.

FumingTRex · 07/01/2025 18:50

Musk is an idiot and not an elected representative of the US so should be ignored.

The real scandal was the failure to safeguard girls at the time, which reflected attitudes that as teens they were not really children, they were responsible for what happened , were not “nice girls” etc. Its a story of mysogyny, not racism. Safeguarding has been revolutionised since then IME and everyone working with teens is made aware of sexual exploitation and knows that young people need to be protected. If we can strengthen prosecution then that should happen too, but the way to stop this is safeguarding. People knew what was happening and did nothing .

Notaflippinclue · 07/01/2025 18:52

Implement the reports findings. Perhaps if they deported the ones with dual passports when they are released it would be a deterrent but it is still going on and no one seems able to stop it - maybe Musk is the one who can.

Everyone I've heard comment so far in papers, twitter, radio etc have all said essentially it's a good thing that he's dragged this issue back into the light... I certainly didn't realise it was still rumbling on, I didn't realise 20 recommendations were not carried out.
I didn't realise 400 arrests were made under sunaks government and I didn't realise that other countries like Australia view us as having a problem with victim rights v perpetrators eg a man who worked in that area said no way would someone be there 10 years later for his human rights.

All of this and so much more I've learned thanks to Elon musk.

Every important person I've heard speak agree.

However they are also intellectual and understand that no subject is black and white and that simultaneously whilst doing a great service it's also impacted on jess Philips etc.

I think the threads have been so informative and there have been so many articles and links shared.
What has absolutely ruined the "conversation" is a narrow minded clique apparently organising themselves from another thread to educate us all that musk doesn't care about the girls he's a bad man boo hiss.

It's such a shame this patronising and leadon presence has squashed the vibrancy and general high level proper debate.

NotTerfNorCis · 07/01/2025 19:20

The people who tried to conceal abuse in places like Rotherham, thinking they were avoiding community tensions, made a very serious mistake. They acted with best intentions. Unfortunately they're the kind of people who are not likely to doubt themselves or feel any shame. That's a pity, but it can't be helped. The important thing is that we don't end up in this situation again. The law should apply to everyone equally.

Well you should have known, it was extremely well publicised over at least the last 30 years & has been front page news across all newspapers, the Mail, over the years has been especially vocal.

As for blaming posters from another thread, what on earth are you on about?

We don't all have to agree on further inquires you know, Jay doesn't want another, just wants the recommendations implemented, is she from the "other thread" or did you just make this up?

Musk isn't wrong because he highlighted the issue, he utterly wrong because he has gone on to call for the jailing of ministers, called Starmer, Jess Phillips rape apologists and far more & not least allowing tweets that support the murder of MPs to stand on X.

I note zero criticism of Musk over this.

"The people who tried to conceal abuse in places like Rotherham, thinking they were avoiding community tensions, made a very serious mistake. They acted with best intentions"

Actually it wasn't with the best intentions former Labour MP Simon Danczuk has claimed he was warned by senior party figures not to mention the ethnicity or religion of grooming gang perpetrators due to concerns over electoral impact.

The last reference to posters being bots was a poster accusing someone of being a left wing bot. It was deleted.

Did you not know what was going on your own country? Why not? Too comfortable or too complacent?

Because it's not like the grooming gangs haven't been widely discussed for years. In Parliament, in councils, in the press and on Mumsnet.🤷‍♀️

Not sure where you got 30 years of publicity from, despite the abuse happening throughout the 2000s and early 2010s,the first case didn't come to court until 2014 and they only came to light at all after Maggie Oliver the police inspector resigned over the lack of action being taken

There was news coverage in late 2012, that was when I first heard about it.

You are correct- 2012 was when it first came to light and then only because Maggie Oliver from Manchester Met Police resigned after whistleblowing about the lack of police action.

It’s not that Musk suddenly noticed, information about exactly what happened to some of the girls has been released recently. It’s horrifying.

I read about a 16 year old with the mental age of a 4yr old who was locked in a flat regularly and repeatedly raped. her foster carer said she came home “with semen dripping from every orifice” and had to be bathed and have woulds tended to. The police didn’t do anything because she was apparently of the age of consent. The mohammed Karrar’s crime has already been shared and it was just torture,

A lot of people hadn’t heard the actual details before. Grooming gang makes people think a child if being given presents and then having “consenting” sex with a boyfriend. They didn’t think girls were being raped with broken bottles, bats etc or that men were literally forming queues or literally gang raping.

Also the numbers came in a slow drip, 1400, rotherham, 1000 telford, Sunaks taskforce found 4000. We actually have no idea how many victims are out there.

People are not angry enough imo.

He is a shitposter for sure. But he has every right to comment publicly surely. Its not like he's having secret meetings with the PM, now that really is influence! (No clamour on mumsnet for the minutes of Bill Gates meeting with Starmer recently)

What lies, can you tell me what things are untrue

He said that Jess Phillips was a rape genocide apologist. That's another lie. I've looked and can't find her apologising for rape or genocide.

Exactly this. As has been said, in one way or another, repeatedly on here over the last few days.

But it unfortunately appears that some are utterly determined to disbelieve that anyone could have been in this position other than by avoiding reading any serious news and therefore they must be either thick or posting in bad faith.

I wonder quite why it’s so important to cling to that view so doggedly in the face of all evidence to the contrary.

Happyher · 07/01/2025 20:21

He’s an attention seeking bully who’s just bought a rapist the American presidency and thinks he can now tell other countries who their government should be. Starmer’s doing the right thing by focusing on the issues and not him. The irony of him calling the U.K. government out over rape gangs when has allegedly paid out $thousands to his female employees who he has forced NDA’s on due to his alleged sexual harassment of them. And of course cosying up to the Rapist in Chief.
I think he should be ignored and not given the oxygen of the power and influence that he seeks.

JRSKSSBH · 07/01/2025 20:24

JHound · 07/01/2025 11:36

I really wish we could just ignore him.

He is a foreign troll and should be treated as such.

I don’t have an issue with it being highlighted which MPs voted against deportations but this is completely decontextualised and there maybe valid reasons to vote against that decision but we have a lot of stupid people among us not capable of complex thought.

I have multiple post-graduate qualifications but I am incapable of thinking of a single valid reason to vote against the deportation of foreign rapists, other than reasons that put the welfare and human rights of violent criminals above the welfare and safety of British women, children and girls.

JRSKSSBH · 07/01/2025 20:28

I mean we have a man as PM who campaigned in 2020 against the deportation of foreign criminals to Jamaica who went on to commit violent crimes, so he definitely thinks drug dealers, rapists, murderers and wife beaters deserve to stay.

I agree. I'm glad that Norwegian, German and French leaders are speaking out against him too. He's trying to destabilise European countries and we need to not let him do that.

BornFreeButinChains · 07/01/2025 20:32

@User37482 quite.

At the time I followed it all closely but new information has come to light and information sharing like these past few days is far superior to how it was shared 10 years ago.

We have had a deep dive gathering of information on these threads, u tube videos, reports, clips. It's been illuminating to see new information and to look at the crimes with fresh eyes.

The debates on here ( where they can be had without the drone) the debates on the radio, TV are vital! Absolutely vital to really get some meaningful action!

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/01/2025 20:33

He also spreads lies and misinformation @Annabella92. Like retweeting the lie that an immigrant was responsible for the dreadful murders in Southport.

He's a drug addled liar and bullshitter who spouts off about things he knows (next to) nothing about to cause trouble for people he doesn't like.

Musk is no moral crusader. He is no Truth Teller. He's not even an upholder of free speech. And he doesnt give a shit about victims of rape for profit gangs.
