To think that Musk is now overstepping himself and the UK gvt should threaten action

Musk has just posted this on twitter (among other unhinged tweets). To me this reads as a thinly veiled threat to democratically elected UK MPs and actually the UK government should consider sanctions to the US if he continues this attack when he enters the White House?

Not sure why mentioning a film is an issue.

Email mnhq, maybe they can say why

I think a couple of posters misread it as the film is called Minority Report, I think they just read the title of the film, not sure how but contacting Mumsnet to ask.

MellersSmellers · 07/01/2025 15:53

Actually, you know what - I think we should all just ignore him now. He's revelling in all this limelight. He doesn't have anything interesting or useful to add to our national discourse.

madgesb · 07/01/2025 15:53

And I meant it's dangerous to say crimes have happened before they have in - the topic of the film is all I meant!!

You were dismissive of the very real potential risk to MPs and their personal safety especially when two MPs have been fatally attacked in recent years. I imagine that was why several people objected to your post.

Well that's not the way I intended it, I'm sorry.

Do you think the headline and the substance of the article are well matched?

Maybe Tesla is in trouble but that article didn't provide any evidence of it.

Sales in 2024 1.79 million down from 1.8 million in 2023 and a share price which is a bit lower than it was in December after a year which saw it start at 250, drop to 150 before peaking just above 450 and is now sitting at 400.

This. It was highly distasteful in response to a post that referenced Jo Cox and the very real danger all MPs, but particularly women, currently face.

I think we're getting crossed wires here. I wasn't commenting on Jo Cox?

I was. She was mentioned in my post that your deleted one replied to.

Didn't Brazil close Twitter when he started interfering there? China don't take any shit either. The only language bullies understand.

Is this parody? It's hard to tell lately.

TooBigForMyBoots · 07/01/2025 16:50

Musk is very fond of China. He's also OK with restricting X use in specific countries when asked to by their leaders.

He doesn't give a shit about abused children or free speech.

Actually I am grateful for this information. Why a foreign born rapist should not be deported is extraordinary to me.

Where someone was born isn't a particularly relevant factor. People can be "foreign born" by accident, even, and being born in a place doesn't mean that person has that nationality. Most countries don't grant citizenship on the basis of place of birth (since 1983, you aren't necessarily British just because you are born in the UK, for example).
Generally speaking, a person who is not a British citizen will be made the subject of a deportation order for rape. If a non-UK citizen gets a prison sentence of 12 months or more, a deportation order will be made unless one of the exceptions applies (and the bar is quite high). If 4 years or more, a deportation order will be made unless there are exceptional compelling and compassionate circumstances why it should not be made.
However, you can have a person who is now a British Citizen, and therefore cannot be deported, but wasn't born in the UK and didn't come here until an adult.
A few of these child rapists have been deprived of their British Citizenship and then made the subject of a deportation order, but deprivation of British Citizenship is rare, difficult and complicated. There are only about 1,000 cases of deprivation a year, from memory, and 80% of those are for acquiring citizenship by fraud, not for bad behaviour ("presence in the UK is not conducive to the public good" is the test).

Why only the police?

Not only the police - but the police in particular. They were the ones on the scene dealing with incidents. Their decision to view girls’ behaviour as troublesome rather than evidence of abuse is surely the main issue.

Sanction the US? With what? What can this country possibly sanction the US with and with?

Just the words sound comical.

Yes I agree - I was referring to the OP.

That the UK needs liberating from a tyrannical government.

Surely that's a matter of perspective though? You might disagree with that opinion. But plenty of people agree. It's very revealing that most people in a lather about Musk aren't able to tell the difference between fact and opinion.

I believe Starmer is a treasonous petty tyrant. I sincerely believe that. You might disagree but the the fact I think that doesn't make it a lie or misinformation anymore than I can declare it an objective fact that fusilli tastes better than rigatoni.

I thought Brown telling everyone to suppress it was just as much of an issue. Don't you?

BornFreeButinChains · 07/01/2025 17:21

It seems to have been a whole culture at that time.

We know Brown called that poor lady a bigot there have been extensive behind the scenes chats between Blair and Brown over the worker right mistake, eu, suppressing stuff so all of that coupled with a general society low level of understanding about these vulnerable children, mysogny in spades a lack of will, fear of being called racist, our leaders in the culture of suppression you can see how they didn't stand a chance

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2025 17:24

That “poor lady” was a bigot. I can’t comment on the rest of that post because it doesn’t make sense.

The UK has a democratically elected government behaving in a lawful way. They're not tyrannical because you, me and others didn't vote for them. Do you know what Tyranny means?

So here's the link to the Gillian Duffy and Gordon Brown meeting. Now she raised a number of issues of which immigration was just one.

After the interview Gordon Brown labelled her a "bigot " for raising the concern on immigration.

Gordon Brown after the recording went public admitted he was wrong to call her a bigot and fair play to him he went and personally apologised to Mrs Duffy(you wouldn't get my politicians making personal apologies these days).

Now Gordon Brown admitted he was wrong to call her a bigot but you still think she is.

Sadly this reflects the position of many on the left that to even mention the topic of immigration now results in being accused of being a bigot or a racist.

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2025 18:11

Brown said she wasn’t because it would have made a nonsense of his apology if he hadn’t. In my opinion she was a bigot and he got it right first time.

You're not a powerful figure in the world's most powerful country, though. Some people's opinions matter more than others.

Trump has given a speech this afternoon in which he laid claim to Greenland, the Panama Canal and even Canada. When someone in his position says things like that, it's not joking or 'shitposting'. It will have real life ramifications. He's making himself, and America, look either very foolish or very dangerous.

Shinybear · 07/01/2025 18:16

Why is everyone suddenly talking about Keir Starmer and his administration as if they're some kind of absolute monarchy who can't be criticised?

Trump was democratically elected twice. Plenty of kvetching over that, people call him a tyrant and would be very grateful for foreign intervention. Don't see you telling them they're "liars".
