To be annoyed that my DD teacher did this

DramaLama0 · 06/01/2025 21:54

Waiting to be dismissed at end of the day and it was raining heavy. Teacher had a very large umbrella. A few children were there including my DD. DD and some others moved and starting moving towards the umbrella to go under and all of a sudden teacher saw and did a turn so that the other children were under it but not my DD. It didn't matter too much as she was going to be dismissed soon anyway but not until she had seen me. I felt sad that she was the only one not under it and the teacher seemed to move with purpose so she couldn't be under it, but the other children left to be dismissed were?

I don’t think I had a ‘ludicrous’ interpretation of: ‘Their child pays the price’.

You didn't have a logical one.

You work in a school and THAT is your response??!! Jesus H Christ.

Let's hope in the caretaker's shed just organising the tools...

Because I work in schools and that is how the child suffers when there are parents who do this. The poster said about SLT being informed which means that as a rule when there are intimidating parents they are sanctioned which then impacts on the child. You're as dramatic as the OP in assuming they meant harming the child.

Playing the - but they said it too card is what children do to deflect when challenged. Think logically about what the impact would be to the child if the parents are sanctioned by the school.

Edited

Eh? Your second paragraph has lost me, I’m afraid. And I didn’t assume they meant harming the child - you’re the one who brought up ‘beating the child up’.

I think the op is being utterly ridiculous. I was simply pointing out you have absolutely no idea what the pp meant with her comment, as it wasn’t your comment!

She did a 360 to avoid my DD going under it.

But if she did a 360 degree turn she would be back where she started from as she would have moved through a full circle!

buttonousmaximous · 07/01/2025 06:57

I would give the teacher the benefit of the doubt and assume it wasn't deliberate.

It's tough when your kid goes to school and become one of the pack because to us they are special. Some teachers are fantastic and see potential in every child, some pick favourites and some aren't interested in individuals.

jasminocereusbritannicus · 07/01/2025 07:18

I think you are massively overthinking this… if you “saw it happen” you were close enough for the teacher to think that you were just about to take her, surely?
This is one of those situations where, if you made an official complaint, the teacher would be incredulous because they didn’t even realise it had happened. As other people have said, unless you’ve got a catalogue of events that ‘proves’ the teacher is systematically unkind to your child, I think you should just forget it.

I once got called out by a child’s grandmother (to senior management) for ‘dragging her across the playground’, when in reality I had hold of her hand and was steering her through the crowds of parents to our class’ meeting point, as we had been delayed ( she forgot her water bottle)! We were rushing… I was absolutely not dragging her! And it made feel awful that someone could even think that! This teacher would feel the same, I’m sure.

@DramaLama0 Feeling sorry for your daughter and yourself after reading about the teacher's spiteful behaviour 💗
I hope your daughter didn't notice what actually happened and that it seems she was picked on by the teacher.
No matter how many people here say that a teacher is not capable of such horrid behaviour - yes they are!

I'm really interested to know how many of the people who have commented here are teachers/work in a school or are related to/are friends with teachers!
It's so very strange that the commenters just can't seem to accept that a teacher could have a nasty, spiteful mind and choose to bully a child or several children.

Anyhow, like I said earlier, I hope your daughter didn't realise how horridly the teacher behaved towards her and that she's not affected by it. Best wishes to you both 💗💗

Nasty? Spiteful mind? Bully?

Bit of a reach from (probably accidentally) leaving someone briefly from being protected by an umbrella.

I know several teaching friends - including Heads - who have left the profession as a direct result of parents behaviour and attitude.

CarmelaBrunella · 07/01/2025 07:33

OP: contact the governors, log it with 101 and report it to the ECHR.

Tia86 · 07/01/2025 07:35

Trying to picture a teacher fitting 30 kids under an umbrella in case a parent complains their child has been left out 😂

This is ridiculous. I doubt your child was singled out, just unfortunately on the edge and as others have said with other children crowding them there are many reasons they turned when they did.

The world is becoming ridiculous. I am sure your child won't melt in the rain.

pastapestoparmesan · 07/01/2025 07:39

I love a teacher complaint thread - still waiting for one about me! This has to be up there as possibly the number one most batshit crazy teacher complaint on mumsnet ever. I wonder if the OP feels silly yet? Oh well, of I go to pointlessly victimise children for the day…

HollyKnight · 07/01/2025 07:39

Why did your daughter not get under the umbrella?

That's what you set out to do, because there are no other demands on your day 😊

She did a 360 to avoid my DD going under it.

If she did a 360 turn won’t the teacher end up where she started of? 😂

Is the teacher usually unkind? Could it be there were children around her and she didn’t see all of them?

Tia86 · 07/01/2025 07:44

Having thought about this, if there were only some children under the umbrella (assuming not the whole class) and it was end of the day, surely OP could have been more prompt in getting there? Suddenly picturing that those under the umbrella are the children where parents are generally a bit later and that the rest of the class have already been dismissed.

BallerinaRadio · 07/01/2025 07:45

Imagine the skill it takes to purposely angle an umbrella just so one small child and one small child only, nobody else, is excluded from being under said umbrella. Making sure everyone is covered but no not this one child they must stay out in the rain (!)

She's wasted on five year olds she should be teaching physics!

You didn't have a logical one.

As you said, neither of us know what was meant. Your detailed explanation of the supposed rationale was far more fantastical, given the lack of info.

Anyway, if one of my medical team said that their patients ‘pay the price’ for their rude relatives, I would be discussing this in supervision. Language is important.

WashingDryingForEver · 07/01/2025 07:59

I think it’s sweet that the teacher was trying to protect the kids with her umbrella. OP, have you had previous reason to think your child was being targeted by this member of staff?

Wolfpa · 07/01/2025 08:08

You’re overreacting and making this about you and your daughter when it isn’t.

also if the teacher did a 360 she would have ended up exactly where she started

Superhansrantowindsor · 07/01/2025 08:12

I really can’t think of anyone I know doing this and I would assume it was completely unintentional. I’m not saying teachers aren’t mean sometimes but this doesn’t sound like it to me. Surely you have been in a situation where you have bumped into an acquaintance or friend at the shops and you didn’t notice them until the very last minute. The teacher was probably miles away.

DurhamDurham · 07/01/2025 08:15

She did a 360? She'd be in the same position. In fact given the shape of umbrellas it's difficult to imagine how the teacher turning in any degree, while standing in the same spot, would have affected the brolly coverage. Ok, I'm overthinking now Grin

EdithBond · 07/01/2025 08:17

CouldItBeAnyMoreObvious · 07/01/2025 06:36

She picked on your child, deliberately allowing her to get wet?
Ok, did you report her to the Head Teacher or similar?
Did you challenge her?
Ask her why she did this?
No, you came here to tell us your tale. If you thought your child was being picked on, why not fight to protect her?

Maybe you’re joking. Even so, don’t you think it’s a bit harsh to say that?

People come on threads to air their worries, test their opinions or have a laugh. Perfectly legitimate to express what’s bothering you.

And most replies don’t think she needed to ‘protect’ her DD other than by taking her home. It was raining in the playground. If kids don’t have their own umbrella, their coat will get wet. As it would if it was raining when she went to school. The teacher was clearly doing their best to shelter the kids, which they weren’t obligated to do. And kids have to learn to be assertive rather than their parents intervening on their behalf. If she wanted to go under the umbrella with the others kids, she could have done.

Kids can withstand heavy rain. Mine used to play football in it in shorts.

Maddy70 · 07/01/2025 08:22

Huge overthink here. The teacher will be moving as she's dismissing children. She can only fit so many under her umbrella. Ridiculous comment

User543211 · 07/01/2025 08:22

This thread is so funny not also not funny. Stuff like this is why I quit teaching.
