To think Elon Musk has gone nuts

What on earth is going on with him. Calling for Nagel Farage to resign. Now wanting the PM to resign amd said we have a tyrannical government. It's all a bit odd.

@Alexandra2001 I couldn't agree more with your post at 14.23 - All these pivotal things that only now become'emergencies' or issues seemingly blamed on Labour when strangely they received little negative traction on here and in other places under the Tory's. I'm all for these subjects receiving attention and action but to imply it's an emergency purely down to Labour is disingenuous at best when they have been in opposition for 14 years-and the only politician who had a real focus on these issues and keeping in the public eye (Jess) is actually a Labour politician

I remember Rotherham MP Sarah Champion (labour) saying some stuff as well but she was given some pretty rough reception

Anyway, let's hope Starmer and Labour learn from this mess? Coming back to the original post, no Elon is not nuts, he's influential, extremely well connected internationally and very powerful for the time being. He is meddling in European politics and our weak and incompetent politicians aren't managing it very well.

I agree he’s influential, well connected and currently powerful. Not sure how those things mean he can’t be nuts though…

Crikeyalmighty · 07/01/2025 15:51

@Lalgarh yes she did -

TheNinkyNonkyIsATardis · 07/01/2025 16:01

He thinks he's living in a sci fi novel.. but not in an interesting positive way.

He is. Rule Britannia by Daphne DuMaurier. Written before we joined the EU, it's set in a Britain that left the EU by a popular vote (to disastrous consequences to the economy) and gets invaded by America afterwards.

I won't spoil the ending, but we have a rather unlikely saviour.

Yes they have always been emergencies. No the Tories unfortunately did not sort out the underlying issues, they are still emergencies and getting ever more critical. What are Labour, the party in power going to do? Or are you saying they will be as ineffectual as the Tories

Before that the MP Ann Cryer for Keighley also got into hot water and was the 1st to raise this in parliament.

The graun deigning to give her this after the 1st report in 2014

https://amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2014/aug/30/rotherham-girls-could-have-been-spared-ann-cryer

Cryer's battle began when seven mothers came to her to claim that their daughters had been groomed by young men from the Pakistani community. "They said the girls were being used for sex by them and handed around – not as prostitutes, but were being handed around the families of these lads. This was underage sex. These girls were well below 16. The mothers said, 'We understand it's a criminal offence even if it's consensual', which I said was quite right. And they said to me, 'Why is it that West Yorkshire police won't do anything about it, social services won't do anything about it, when we have given them the names and addresses of the men abusing our daughters?' "

Rotherham report 'reduced me to tears', says MP who exposed abuse decade ago

@Feelingathomenow we don't know what they will do - but they cannot sort out all the underlying issues that have been ignored/neglected in realistically 4 months actually governing - because there are 'so many' issues- there is only so much time/money/people and competing sources for time/money /people- be it housing/ health/ education/economy/ investment/ benefits -etc, etc-

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2025 16:13

Well they’re sorting out this issue.

Thankyou.
Oh yes, posters who haven't NC and are all over any political thread, criticising Labour at every opportunity over the last few years but never once mentioned CSA/Rotherham or inquiries, are now aghast at the situation Labour inherited from the Conservatives....

Its very obvious what the motivations are and they call Remainers "bad losers"

cardibach · 07/01/2025 15:41

So you mean you’ve decided that’s what he’s hinting at and you will judge him for it despite him never saying it? Though as it goes Jenrick has said some pretty extreme right wing things in the last couple of days.

Who do you think he’s referring to when he’s criticising people for wanting another enquiry as jumping on the far right band wagon? Some of those asking for another enquiry are victims of the animals who groomed them. I know a lot of people asking for this to be dealt with, and they’re not far right, so why is he saying this is a far right demand?

He didn’t do that so I don’t think anything about it.
Edit: no, the victims don’t want on other inquiry. They want the recommendations of the last one enacted. An article about it has been posted upthread. One has tweeted she’d like local inquiries though. You know, like Phillips has suggested.

DuncinToffee · 07/01/2025 16:47

Here is one of those people asking for another inquiry

https://bsky.app/profile/bestforbritain.bsky.social/post/3lf5forcuvc24

Here is the key section of that train wreck of an interview by Robert Jenrick on r4 today

Robinson: Did you raise it when you were Home Office minister?
Jenrick: We talked about it... I wasn't... My portfolio... But we talked about it.

Alexandra2001 · 07/01/2025 16:47

A Tory from the HoLs, on R4 said Jenrick is the most divisive MP going and Badenoch should put a stop to his hate and division.

Until now, Jenrick defended not having another inquiry, defended not implementing the the previous inquiry too.

Yet suddenly, despite no new evidence, he wants a new one.

They manage pretty well to push stuff through quickly, when it suits. Private School VAT, removal of winter fuel allowance, charging and putting into prison protestors within a matter of days…..

DuncinToffee · 07/01/2025 16:48

Remember in 2019, the then Prime Minister Boris Johnson complained about £60 million being "spaffed up the wall" investigating historic child abuse cases

The first two are pretty simple. Rioters were dealt with fast because they had to be, just imagine the stick if baying mobs threatening people’s lives had gone on for any length of time. No government can do everything at once.

How long ago was that Rotherham program made? I’m amazed all these voices didn’t pipe up then. Funny how they didn’t care then

I didn't live in the UK in 2017 so I claim immunity on this one.

However, doesn't this rather make the case that, like him or not, Elon Musk's intervention has significantly raised the profile of this issue?

I feel whiplash from going from being told that it was splashed all over the news and every person knew about it in as intimate detail as they knew about George Floyd, and also that no-one said a word about it until now... Unless you are advancing the theory that the general public was well aware of all the details of mass child gang rape, torture and trafficking and simply didn't care?

Crikeyalmighty · 07/01/2025 17:41

@Alexandra2001 yes indeed- I am amazed how many seemed happy to give the Tory's 14 years and certainly the last 7 to bugger the economy , give vast amounts to mates and donors and take us for fools during Covid and yet 4 months of a new government and they are baying for blood based on the fact the gvt are enacting policies they don't like - as I said on my previous posts about the riots and the imprisonments- if that had been Badenoch or Farage they would be salivating over tough action and strong law and order -

BIossomtoes · 07/01/2025 17:46

I first heard about it in late 2012. I remember sitting in the car and listening to an item on the radio. Then it faded away. I don’t remember any coverage or mention after that until 2017. Then it faded away again. Until this week.

It lead to an enquiry and a number of other prosecutions, Oxford, Aylesbury and Telford sprung to mind. So it did help in the way police deal with things, it created more multi agency communications. It helped recognise grooming gangs working on vulnerable girls in care homes and changed attitudes towards it.

when I say people didn’t care I mean the “man on the street” voices shouting about it now demanding the government take action. Where were they then? For most, this isn’t new news. It’s been covered in main stream media since 2017.
Elons changed the rhetoric surrounding it, he’s made it more aggressive, he’s also rewritten history and disregarded facts. Presumably because he’s coming to this late in the game with only half the information.

I don't think many people have a particular issue with him raising CSA scandals etc.
Its the hate, the failure to take down tweets calling for Starmer and Phillips murder, Musk wanting our ministers in jail, for the UK to liberated by the Americans.... the King to dissolve Parliament...

We've had 2 MPs murdered by extremists, yesterday a man jailed for threatening Jess Phillips.

He is sowing hatred and may well only end one way.

Rotherham etc has been known about and reported on extensively, we all knew and we all didn't care enough but at least Starmer is doing something about it & before you say "its only because of Musk" thats not true, Cooper said she would implement the recommendations whilst in opposition, Labour called for another reports finds to be enacted TEN YEARS ago...... the Cons ignored it....
