Aibu to suggest you should delete it even if it's not currently being used.

It occurred to me today that whilst I no longer use it, just the act of having an account supports Elon Musk's world view which I do not share!!! (Understatement. Todays outburst against one of his few supporters in Europe made me think I need to act in this small way, if hundreds of thousands, millions also think along the same lines we can send a message (he won't hear but can but try)

I do have one still but bloody hell it's shit. Thees a difference between 'free speech' and a billionaire screaming at top volume whatever he thinks will get the most inflamed reaction.

twohotwaterbottles · 05/01/2025 21:29

I used to love Twitter. There was a huge running community on there. I made real life friends, did charity runs and all sorts of loveliness came from it. It's a twisted nasty place now (since EM broke it) and I literally only keep it as my children's school use it for updates and announcements.

unsync · 05/01/2025 21:31

I deleted mine years ago. It's a cesspit. I don't want that kind of negativity in my life.

Feelingathomenow · 05/01/2025 21:32

So I should delete
something to support your world view. Interesting!

BeanAround · 05/01/2025 21:39

Twitter has been hugely useful for me professionally. I’ve moved over to Bluesky now and only post there, but I won’t delete my Twitter account because the connections are too valuable to give up. If everyone I follow on Twitter moved over to BlueSky I might get rid but not until then.

Londonrach1 · 05/01/2025 21:40

No, never have

NoNoNona · 05/01/2025 21:41

No, I never bought in to the fomo generation.

Annabella92 · 05/01/2025 21:41

moogdroog · 05/01/2025 20:49

No. I'm keeping it.
Besides, I wouldn't last 5 minutes on BlueSky before being banned as I don't believe that men can be women.

Yes, this. All this Musk hysteria is getting tiresome now.

BurntBroccoli · 05/01/2025 21:43

Yes I do and haven't been using it. I have nearly 4K followers so a bit sad to lose that.
It's absolutely rubbish what Musk has done to it. My feeds were all positive before he bought it.

Yes I know it's so sad.
I feel grubby just touching the icon to open the app now which I'm doing less and less. So full of hate now.

Greycheck · 05/01/2025 21:45

I do and I use it as a fairly anonymous account for football related stuff which I don't do on my FB acct. As such pretty much all of my news feed is football related so don't see any of the crap luckily.

Bewareofthisonetoo · 05/01/2025 21:46

I do - it’s a great forum

SocksAndTheCity · 05/01/2025 21:47

Never had one, never will. Ditto facebook, instagram and whatsapp.

LemonBossy · 05/01/2025 21:47

Deleted mine a while back and I'd had it since the very beginning. Not because of Musk but because it was just full of pure bile and poison.

Boffle · 05/01/2025 21:52

Yes and I still love it. It's whatever you make it. Mine is mostly art and sheep farming.

Don't like musk or many other American politicians but covering your ears doesn't change anything.

I don't agree with everyone on X or on MN but unlike on Bluesky I don't just want to hear the views of people I agree with.
I think it's important to hear a variety of viewpoints rather than label everyone you disagree with as "bad people" .

Cattenberg · 05/01/2025 22:03

I deleted my X account. I have to say I don’t like the look of Bluesky either - it seems to be a sanctimonious echo chamber full of people who post constantly about getting other people banned for wrong-think.

I think X and Bluesky are two cheeks of the same arse. And now I have a lot more free time.

Thepurplepig · 05/01/2025 22:07

Bluesky. The echo chamber of the far left where men can be women and 95% of the population are phobics according to its contributors.

Ill stay on x thanks, where everyone has an equal balanced say on any topic.

Elon might be off his meds and batshit crazy at the moment but free speech is far more important

MrsPeregrine · 05/01/2025 22:10

I’m on X. I like it.

Oriunda · 05/01/2025 22:13

I now use/post on Bluesky, but followed the advice of several people who said to keep my Twitter account but just not post. That way bots etc can't take my account over.

How? I’m intrigued now as that’s pretty much what my Twitter feed was and what I love and work within - art, museums, history, farming.

I see little art, museums and history and see more valuable content elsewhere. Farming seems to have become a hotbed of conspiracy theory, abuse and misinformation.

I do agree though it’s important to hear people with differing views.

Should say that that wasn’t accusatory. Just intrigued by algorithms and what we are seeing.

MrsSkylerWhite · 05/01/2025 22:23

Fuck no! Never have. Had I, would have cancelled when he bought it. Always knew he was a twat.

steff13 · 05/01/2025 22:25

I'm on it. I follow a few local pages. I don't really spend much time on it, nor do I encounter anything particularly unpleasant.

ChewieChewieChewie · 05/01/2025 22:28

I opened a new account when it become X and I will be keeping it. For now, anyway.

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/01/2025 22:31

I atill do, but I don’t post and I’m not active on it. It’s useful still for local travel alerts and to get in touch with businesses quickly(ish), and I like to keep up with what JK is posting. I’ve moved to Bluesky but it still feels a bit new.
