Parking issue

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 09:22

I’m writing this post to establish if i am
being unreasonable by wanting simple (ish) access to my driveway without having to drive forwards and backwards multiple times to avoid hitting the parked van. I appreciate this isn’t a serious matter but more a frustrating one given the selfishness of the owner, who could easily park it outside his own property on his double driveway. Instead he’d rather inconvenience others. I’ve referred this to the local authorities and they will get back to me in due course. The company aren't interested as we’ve talked to the owner and they’ve said it’s a neighbourhood issue. Well, of course but it involves property of yours ! Also, if emergency services want access to our elderly neighbour to the right, they’ll never get through. Interested in sensible comments only. Thanks

It shouldn't park so close to a corner but you can still get out.

LizzoBennett · 05/01/2025 09:24

I highly doubt that you're going to get anywhere with this issue. You'll have to suck it up.

MathsMagpie · 05/01/2025 09:26

Struggling to see how emergency services won't get through? They can surely bump up the curb in an emergency?

Did you really phone this person's employer to moan that someone is parked on a public road?

Ablondiebutagoody · 05/01/2025 09:28

You can get both your cars in an out fairly easily and there is plenty of room for emergency services. Maybe a bit annoying but nothing that the authorities are going to do anything about.

Boing98 · 05/01/2025 09:29

If you struggle with parking there, please, please, hand in your driving licence.

StripeSandwich · 05/01/2025 09:30

This is just the way things are on new build estates. People park any old place. The local authority can't stop people parking on streets.

He doesn't have less right to use the road because he doesn't own his own home.

He should not be parked so close to the corner but in reality that's just something that happens.

My street is narrower than that and there is absolutely always someone parked opposite the drive. I reverse in.

We have an old people's home at the end of our street so ambulances are commonplace. They either squeeze past or just stop and go on foot the rest of the way.

eurochick · 05/01/2025 09:33

If you are the car on the left and want to turn left it would be easier to reverse out. It's generally better practice to reverse onto the drive as to do, but driving in forwards would help in this case.

DUsername · 05/01/2025 09:34

It's not the best parking. I'd probably grumble to myself about it but I wouldn't have done anything else personally. He's not actually blocking you or the road.

Whaleandsnail6 · 05/01/2025 09:35

If I was parking that van, I wouldnt have thought it would give you issues getting on and off your drive, but I wouldnt park it that close to the corner

Hello87abc · 05/01/2025 09:36

Just start parking opposite his drive

sushibelt · 05/01/2025 09:36

It looks like emergency services can get through?

ParsonBrown · 05/01/2025 09:37

It's annoying but you can still get in and out very easily and anyone can get past just as easily

Ilovethatbear · 05/01/2025 09:38

Why can’t you get in and off your drive fairly easily? It looks pretty straightforward, and I say this as a shit driver 😂

Pussycat22 · 05/01/2025 09:38

Double yellows?

BeMellowOchreZebra · 05/01/2025 09:40

There seems to be plenty of room to park and an ambulance to get through.

The only issue is parking on the corner and people turning out of this junction will have very poor visibility and have to pull out onto the wrong side of the road.

UndermyShoeJoe · 05/01/2025 09:41

Annoying as it is without petitioning the council for double yellows you’ll never stop it.

I wish there was some rule that bans cannot be park on the road, must be in drives/carparks/at their depots.

Lived somewhere once where we would regularly have 4-6 dpd vans clogging up the road.

Brefugee · 05/01/2025 09:42

aside of the fact that you are not allowed (IIRC) to park within 15 feet (metres?) of a corner, there doesn't seem to be shortage of space to get out

BlueMum16 · 05/01/2025 09:42

Park on the road outside your own house before the van parks? He might then find somewhere else to park.
Have you spoken to him?

MrsDefrost · 05/01/2025 09:42

Looks like the car on the right can drive out fine. If you parked the car on the left nose in you could then do an easy reverse out in the direction of the front of the van and off you go.

Pumpkincozynights · 05/01/2025 09:43

He shouldn’t be worked that close to the corner.
I hate selfish people. Why doesn’t he/she park outside their own house?
Can you park on the road making it difficult for them to park opposite you?

sushibelt · 05/01/2025 09:44

Why when OP has a drive they can park on as demonstrated in the photo?

This is an excellent summary of the situation

needhelpwiththisplease · 05/01/2025 09:45

They pay their road tax and can legally park where they like

pictoosh · 05/01/2025 09:46

If he's parked legally with no restrictions there's nothing you can do.

Rick1985 · 05/01/2025 09:48

I appreciate that I can still “get out” but not without difficulty. Emergency services if needed next door - can’t “get in” though.
