Pasta..

I went for dinner tonight and the menu said the dish I ordered was made with penne.. When the food arrived it was fusilli!

I hate fusilli, it’s the worst pasta beside angel hair (capellini), so I actually politely sent the dish back and asked for something else (they apparently had run out of penne and forgot to say).

AIBU - all pasta is the same
YNBU - fusilli is the worst pasta (or enter your worst)

I'd disagree! Penne is the worst shape!!

Silly to send it back though. Very wasteful.

You do realise that she’s paying for this meal right? It’s not a freebie that he’s cooking for her?

I hope you don’t work in a restaurant.

exactly
how about, if you're the chef "Don't give people something different to what they ordered and you expect them to pay for?"

The vast majority of restaurants would much prefer people highlight issues at the time so they have a chance to fix it rather than smile and say it's lovely then post a moaning review on trip advisor.

If the meal was sold as "chicken with pasta" and OP complained then it's on her. If it's sold as "chicken with specific type of pasta" then that's what she should get, or at the very least she should be told before the order is confirmed that there's been a change.

If someone ordered chips it's reasonable to expect not to get jacket potato or mash or dauphinoise instead. This is the same thing. It might still be pasta but not the type OP ordered.

They should have told you the type of pasta when you ordered.

As for whether all pasta is the same, if you ordered chips in a restaurant would you be happy if they brought a plate of mash or some potato soup.

I like fusilli and probably wouldn't have minded. But I can understand your disappointment; you were expecting penne and what you got was a pasta you don't even like. I can't think of a pasta I actively dislike, but if I'd ordered, say rigatoni, especially one with thick ridges for a sauce with lots of mozzarella, I wouldn't have been pleased to get macaroni (smooth, no ridges, a bit dull) instead.

My dad didn’t pay for a piece of charcoal, either, did he.
Wasn’t a question.
