I went for dinner tonight and the menu said the dish I ordered was made with penne.. When the food arrived it was fusilli!

I hate fusilli, it’s the worst pasta beside angel hair (capellini), so I actually politely sent the dish back and asked for something else (they apparently had run out of penne and forgot to say).

AIBU - all pasta is the same
YNBU - fusilli is the worst pasta (or enter your worst)

I wonder if some people are voting based on the differences between pastas and others are responding to the OP sending the dish back and reflecting that this behaviour was unreasonable?

Do you often have sensory issues with food or usually refuse to eat things if they’re a different shape to what you’re used to?

Conchiglie and farfalle are far superior but no it wouldn't bother me if pasta came in a different shape.

How awful for you , OP! You poor thing! I assume you have logged this crime against carbohydrates with 101 and you are being supported. Forts and prayers, hun, forts and prayers. Have a hand hold.

If they hadn’t informed you then it’s quite reasonable to send it back… “Not what the menu states!”

No! Orzo is a firm favourite in this house, in fact it’s on the shopping list for today so the teens can make an orzo tomato salad for pack lunches in preparation for school starting tomorrow. I’d say they make a big batch of it at least every other week.

Pasta's are not all the same and different shapes suit different dishes based on how they hold sauce and suit the dish. I'd be disappointed to get fusilli if the menu said penne.

This is true. It is a despicable design - rock hard and soggy at the same time. There's no way of cooking it well.
But I think it is called farfalle.

That doesn't sound like pappardelle, which is wide ribbons.

Orzo is dreadful!

Penne is rank. Too chewy.

YANBU for preferring penne over fusilli but I don't believe you really sent it back- not many people would be enough of a knob to do that!

I like fusili but if that happened to my son there would be trouble as he hates it too! The texture is off putting

I wouldn't have caused a fuss if a different pasta had come out, not a huge drama for me. I love fusilli and think penne is the worst!

I always mix my pastas. Fusilli, penne, conchiglie, farfalle etc. Tricolour and wholewheat. Or linguine and spaghetti. How wild of me(!)

I do have preferences of pasta shape (and tend to agree with you about fusili) but wouldn't send a dish back because of it
