I'm just glad that we have an opposition and if that is Musk, then so be it. Tories can't do it because they are basically the same mono-party as Labour with effectively the same policies.

beguilingeyes · 03/01/2025 09:35

Fucking hell..Elon Musk. If his insane plan to get Farage into No. 10 works (and the response to him on this thread has me serioulsy wondering), then the world's richest megalomaniac will be effectively running two governments.
He wants Charles to disolve parliament! The election was less than six months ago...have we forgotten who was in power and completely ignored this for 14 years.
Dog whistle is right.

Try again, with some punctuation.

I don't really care, the spotlight is firmly on the government right now. Elon will double his efforts in a fortnight when Trump gets in. The more pressure on govt the better.

You might care when he's using his influence to push things in a direction you like less though. If we think it's a good thing for a foreign multi-billionaire to have so much influence over our politics then you better hope you agree with him... every. time.

User37482 · 03/01/2025 09:36

Honestly he can say what he likes, I fucking loathe the Taliban and the Iranian Mullahs, I feel perfectly free to say what I like.

The government doesn’t have to do anything it doesn’t want to do. British people aren’t obliged to listen to anyone. I don’t see what the fuss is about tbh. Elon Musk said a thing is not foreign interference.

ScribblingPixie · 03/01/2025 09:36

Porcuporpoise · 03/01/2025 09:07

I think YABU - Elon Musk is just a shit stirring right winger. There are more than enough people in the UK to put pressure on government. If we can't be arsed then I guess it's not a national priority for us.

In which case it's quite right that we are shamed internationally.

BellissimoGecko · 03/01/2025 09:36

@Chainzreaction - There HAS been an enquiry!! Published in 2022, it took 7 years: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/oct/20/child-sexual-abuse-inquiry-final-report-20-actions-for-change

You should really do a little research on things before you post about them.

I happen to be typing using speech recognition but so what I don’t use punctuation I’m not stupid far from it. I’m not the one following Tommy Robinson‘s grift. I can tell you now that majority of you guys are not women because you never are his fans seem to be a lot of men so let’s think about that on a women’s site shall we

Back in the day lots of things were done, luckily we have moved on since then...well some of us have

Nameychangington · 03/01/2025 09:37

TreeSquirrel · 03/01/2025 09:28

The government has got to take into account a number of things:

  1. Community relations in the area concerned
  2. The potential for enflamed tensions at national level fuelled by far-right agitators. We don’t want a repeat of the thuggery witnessed last summer.
  3. A potential increase in racism and xenophobia by the far-right
  4. The fact that these offences have already been investigated by the police and also by the 2022 Jay report
  5. The length of time which has elapsed since the offences, which has to be weighed against the benefits of re-opening such a sensitive issue.

Anyone who thinks that we should pipe down about the wholesale rape and torture of underage girls because it might harm 'community relations' is a rape apologist.

But you are still traitors and probably meant in fact I’m 100% guaranteed that the majority of the reform Tommy Robinson fans that are on this post are men I would put money on it

mrschocolatte · 03/01/2025 09:40

Elon Musk. A man that didn’t give a shit about what happened to these girls until it suited his political agenda. That is sickening in itself. To use the violence and trauma they endured for his personal benefit. A man doing this to women. Don’t get played people. It’s what he wants. Be better and smarter than this.

Ariadneefron · 03/01/2025 09:40

There was a national inquiry that took 7 years, published in 2022 and it is here.

Perhaps anyone interested in arguing the subject could begin by reading it.

Rhaidimiddim · 03/01/2025 09:40

tinydynamine · 03/01/2025 08:54

It's the job of the opposition parties to hold the government to account NOT eccentric foreign tycoons.

When girls are getting raped, I'm happy for anybody who wades in on the side of right.

TreeSquirrel · 03/01/2025 09:41

I think we all know the far right would not be interested in these victims had the perpetrators been white. We should not allow them to be used for political ends.

Many victims will now be trying to move on with their lives, which will not be helped by the endless raking over of historic issues. It also won’t help bring the community in Rotherham back together, which I know community leaders have been working hard to do.

It’s very easy for people behind keyboards to discuss an issue they won’t be affected by, while hose in Rotherham will be living and going to school along with their neighbours. We should leave it to community leaders to know what works best for ensuring cohesion in their areas.

Zampa · 03/01/2025 09:42

It was Keir Starmer who initiated the prosecutions in Rochdale whilst he was DPP.

There was an inquiry already in 2022.

The current government have not refused a further inquiry. They've said that they think local authorities should do them.

Elon Musk is very firmly in fake news territory and conveniently ignoring that most child sexual abuse is carried out in family homes. Why's he not tweeting about that?

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 03/01/2025 09:42

TreeSquirrel · 03/01/2025 09:16

Ime when a story is only being reported by GB News and amplified by far-right agitators, there is more to it. This is of course a distressing event for the girls involved, but the government have to look at wider considerations.

These are historic events dating back decades, which have already been investigated. What we don’t want is far-right activists jumping on these for their own racist and xenophobic ends and leading to community and national tensions.

These offences took place decades ago and have been impartially investigated away from the political arena. It’s not surprising that the far right are reluctant to move on, but it is now time to do so. Let’s not give the thugs any further ammunition.

Are you a Labour MP? This sounds very much like 'Lessons will be learned', aka 'Shut up, this is very inconvenient'.

I'm quite prepared to believe politicians of all parties have ignored this because it was just too difficult and sensitive to try to resolve. That's not good enough, though (to put it mildly). The safety of vulnerable people should be one of our top priorities as a society. Children and teenagers need protection. It's a huge scandal that so many of them have not been protected and not been listened to. Their wellbeing and their need for justice have been ignored for other considerations, such as how many votes would be put at risk if the cultural reasons underlying this were to be challenged.

I'm a pinko heart-on-sleeve lefty liberal, and I'm strongly in favour of (controlled) immigration. I live in Inner London and the huge diversity of the community here is one of the reasons I love London. But when people come to live in the UK it is a basic requirement that they obey UK laws. Their desire to maintain the traditions of their home country doesn't trump that.

Jaapssthia · 03/01/2025 09:43

Twenty councillors have quit Labour in protest at the party's direction under Sir Keir Starmer.
The councillors - from Broxtowe Borough Council in Nottinghamshire - claimed the party had "abandoned traditional Labour values".

Firstly, I am a woman.
Second, this site doesn't require you to be female.

HonoraBridge · 03/01/2025 09:43

It is very disturbing that some people on here appear to be criticising Elon Musk for shining a light on the rape and torture of girls in the UK!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2025 09:43

ChillysWaterBottle · 03/01/2025 09:31

Musk has been buddying up to Trump, who was accused of raping a 13 year old and found liable in civil court for sexual abuse, and tweeting misinformation in support of the Tates, who are currently awaiting trial for sex trafficking, the charge of 'sex with minors', and rape. He's supporting criminal grifter and thug Tommy Robinson, who couldn't be bothered to do anything about the child abusers amongst his own friends. So anyone who thinks this RW billionaire tech bro gives af about vulnerable, abused and exploited girls in the UK is frankly stupid.

Bravo.

And probably that’s because they don’t think he’s left enough which interestingly is not what this post is about so he can’t win can he Because he’s got the people from the left attacking him and he’s got the people from the right attacking him

beguilingeyes · 03/01/2025 09:44

"Elon Musk said a thing is not foreign interference."

It's not, but him pumping $100 million into Reform would be. And that may be next.
