The government has got to take into account a number of things:

  1. Community relations in the area concerned
  2. The potential for enflamed tensions at national level fuelled by far-right agitators. We don’t want a repeat of the thuggery witnessed last summer.
  3. A potential increase in racism and xenophobia by the far-right
  4. The fact that these offences have already been investigated by the police and also by the 2022 Jay report
  5. The length of time which has elapsed since the offences, which has to be weighed against the benefits of re-opening such a sensitive issue.
Gatecrashermum · 03/01/2025 09:28

FFS Elon can stay in his lane.

There was a national enquiry in 2022 which had lots of recommendations- none of which were followed by the conservative government (if you want to point fingers start there).

We do not need another inquiry. We need action.

Recommendations to start at the local level were because action can happen there without waiting for a national response.

It's the job of the opposition parties to hold the government to account NOT eccentric foreign tycoons.

Absolutely this! Unelected people whose only qualification is hoarding money!!!

TheKeatingFive · 03/01/2025 09:06

Agreed.

But as they manifestly failed to do their job, then people you like less will step in.

This is why everyone needs to take their responsibilities seriously and hold power to account. This is a scandal of epic proportions and so many sections of our society are implicated.

Spot on.

I agree with this, but given the Tories also did nothing during the 14 years they were in power they're hardly in a position to call out the Labour government.
Suella Braverman and Kemi Badenoch are both calling on Keir Starmer for a public enquiry, why now. when they've known about this for years?

StrawberryWater · 03/01/2025 09:29

Elon Musk should bog off and worry about the injustices in his own country, which by the way is neither the UK or the US. It's South Africa.

Also, what pressure? He's Trumps bitch now and everyone knows it. He's about as threatening as a tropical fake bake. Silly little man should go back to taking credit for other people's ideas.

ThejoyofNC · 03/01/2025 09:30

Abbyk1980 · 03/01/2025 09:27

He didn’t go to prison for that get your fucking facts right? He’s in prison because he tried to interfere with a court case and said some liable stuff against a boy in Huddersfield which the court said he wasn’t able to do and he still went against what they said that’s why he’s in prison do not be fooled And the reason I know that is because I live down the road in Dewsbury it was a Syrian boy

Oh so you've resorted to swearing.

You clearly know nothing about the case, who cares how close you live.

ChewieChewieChewie · 03/01/2025 09:30

All those saying that Musk 'needs to be stopped' from interfering or similar - how, exactly?

I'm not saying I agree or disagree, just wondering how you suppose anyone could stop him commenting publicly on anything he wants to?

Hazylazydays · 03/01/2025 09:30

BananaNirvana · 03/01/2025 08:57

Of course, because Musk really cares and isn’t just using this as another way to promote his far right policies and get Farage elected.

This horror absolutely needs to be fully investigated but Musk should not be allowed to interfere in UK politics in the way he is doing - he is an incredibly dangerous man.

Totally agree, he needs to be kept out of UK politics.

ChillysWaterBottle · 03/01/2025 09:31

Musk has been buddying up to Trump, who was accused of raping a 13 year old and found liable in civil court for sexual abuse, and tweeting misinformation in support of the Tates, who are currently awaiting trial for sex trafficking, the charge of 'sex with minors', and rape. He's supporting criminal grifter and thug Tommy Robinson, who couldn't be bothered to do anything about the child abusers amongst his own friends. So anyone who thinks this RW billionaire tech bro gives af about vulnerable, abused and exploited girls in the UK is frankly stupid.

ThejoyofNC · 03/01/2025 09:32

Oh an article. Hooray. Main stream media are lying filth.

Chillyallday · 03/01/2025 09:32

Thank goodness we have Elon in charge of Twitter and shining a light on this, as the mainstream media have spent many years covering it up. Whatever you think about Elon, without him taking on Twitter none of this would be coming to light now. The fact Labour are refusing an enquiry is indefensible, hopefully this will be reversed.

There HAS been an enquiry!! Published in 2022, it took 7 years: www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2022/oct/20/child-sexual-abuse-inquiry-final-report-20-actions-for-change

And the a Tories refused to act on it. So Badenoch can just bog off.

If you're interested, follow ex-prosecutor Nazir Afzal on FB or Instagram: amp.theguardian.com/uk-news/2025/jan/02/ex-chief-prosecutor-rejects-musks-calls-for-new-child-abuse-inquiry

Blueeyedmale · 03/01/2025 09:32

As a victim of childhood sexual abuse I feel quite sick that these girls lives are turning into a political football, politicians from all sides had the chance to give these poor girls the justice they deserve.

Nobody can fully understand until you have had a childhood destroyed but such sickening events.

We need a full national enquiry, the police failed these girls, cross parties failed these girls we need to know why.

Political point scoring is pathetic what's important is these girls get the justice they do deserve, that's what is most important here.

DancingNotDrowning · 03/01/2025 09:33

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 03/01/2025 09:21

@DancingNotDrowning you're saying a quarter of million girls have web raped and abused by brown people?

I really don't think you're terribly bright, tbh. Ashamed of myself. Off you pop you silly old thing.

And I think rape and abuse is a massive problem for all colours and creeds.

And yes there are many racist people about who ascribe it immigrants only.

Tommy Robinson had failed to addrsss similar problems among those on his own ranks.

I can see that entering into a discussion with someone who conflates the positions “people only care about girls raped by Pakistani rape gangs because the perpetrators are brown” and “rape is only carried out by immigrants” is a total waste of time.

No one is arguing rape isn’t a massive issue for all ethnicities, but you are arguing people only care about these girls 250k girls raped by “Asian” rape gangs because the perpetrators are brown. You are part of the problem. And clearly incapable of any critical analysis.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/01/2025 09:33

Musk should have no place whatsoever in British politics. Anybody who thinks he is doing or saying anything out of genuine concern for anybody other than himself is a fucking idiot. Next question?

Rosecoffeecup · 03/01/2025 09:33

Chainzreaction · 03/01/2025 08:57

Well someone has to shine a light on it & demand a full inquiry. I am happy to see this get so much coverage, I am so angry right now. Girls as young as 10 & 11 drugged & rapes.
Good on Musk for putting the spotlight on England. He has called on King Charles this morning to dissolve government.
As a mother of three girls this is the most shocking & awful tragedy against women in our country. Justice must be provided for every child.

Told Charles to dissolve parliament 🤣🤣🤣🤣 do me a favour

Aye hen, that's how it works 👍

Ime when a story is only being reported by GB News and amplified by far-right agitators, there is more to it. This is of course a distressing event for the girls involved, but the government have to look at wider considerations.

These are historic events dating back decades, which have already been investigated. What we don’t want is far-right activists jumping on these for their own racist and xenophobic ends and leading to community and national tensions.

These offences took place decades ago and have been impartially investigated away from the political arena. It’s not surprising that the far right are reluctant to move on, but it is now time to do so. Let’s not give the thugs any further ammunition.

One of the journalists tried for years to get the Guardian, Independent etc to cover this story. They refused. The left wing press were as involved in the cover up.

Remember the mass serial assaults in Germany a couple of years ago which the Guardian refused to cover then accused the women of lying and exaggerating?

The left have sacrificed 250000+ girls at the alter of multiculturalism. It has allowed hundreds of thousands of white girls to suffer because better to ignore rape than have someone think you are a racist.

And this is still going on. It is still happening and the fact women on here are arguing about who is actually giving it media time disgusts me.

Why wasn't Musk using his platform to raise concerns before now?

Sharptonguedwoman · 03/01/2025 09:35

GreenTeaLikesMe · 03/01/2025 09:09

OK, but what happens when Musk decides in six months' time to start pressuring the UK government about something that you don't happen to agree with? There is the risk of a precedent being set here.

The grooming gangs stuff is appalling and I'm furious about it and about Labour cancelling the inquiry. But we should be conducting an inquiry and punishing the people concerned off our own bat and because it's the right thing to do, not because an unelected millionnaire who has never been a British citizen is trying to force us to.

Tories refused in 2022 I think
