Elon Musk is an arsehole. Everything is for his own personal agenda. He has too much money and people have given him too much of a voice in everything. The scandal of the grooming gangs will haunt us for ever. It happened. It keeps happening. We should be tackling why and what preventions can be put in place from all political parties and anyone who doesn’t want to get on board needs a good think about their values. All our girls are important and deserve our protection especially the very vulnerable.

All of this. Every word.

Two things can be true at once.

Musk is a toxic racist twat with an agenda.

The rape gangs are a national scandal and nothing like this can ever happen again. Also all action taken about this needs to be as in the open as possible.

Over40Overdating · 03/01/2025 11:48

@mortal2024 I would say trying to reduce all women’s opinions on an issue about safeguarding women and why a known misogynist is suddenly giving a shit, is what’s hysterical.

SkiingonKaraSea · 03/01/2025 11:48

FancyAnotherCuppa · 03/01/2025 11:39

As if he’s doing this because he cares about the victims. He’s doing this to stir up hatred and back his new bestie Farage.

If he honestly gave a shit about the victims of sexual abuse, he would not have so heavily backed Trump. (Partly) thanks to him the US has a sex offender as its new president.

Please let’s not think Elon is a good guy. He’s a very dangerous man.

You are getting desperate now.

BrickRedLipstick · 03/01/2025 11:35

You made a personal insult against me because i disagree with you. If this isn’t trying to shut down the debate I really don’t know what is.

They always try the same tactics, so predictable... Far Right.. racist.. bigots.. (insert plight) phobic .. anything to try & deflect from the truth.

I don't know who said it but on twitter it was said these girls have been abandoned in the name of cultural apeasment.

As you can see the title and many of the comments are hysterically enraged, along with the fact that the thread was started in hysterical opposition to the fact that this thread even exists, and one poster was so hysterical she reported this thread for existing.

But you already know that.

What is hysterical about wanting a toxic foreign billionaire with an agenda to stay out of UK politics?

Why use “hysterical” to describe that? Because they are all women?

Haroldwilson · 03/01/2025 11:49

The solution is fairly obviously more funding because social services are overstretched.

The reason they want an inquiry isn't because they don't know how to tackle issues, it's because they want to use this as a racist political football.

Tories stripped back the state and caused problems like this to go unchecked. Labour are in a difficult position because fixing any of the austerity hangovers means tax rises.

cardibach · 03/01/2025 11:50

Chainzreaction · 03/01/2025 11:09

Well this has been a huge failure on the part of the UK government & I for one have no confidence in them.

ypu presumably mean the previous Tory government? Since they are the ones who ignored the report? I had no confidence in them either.

crockofshite · 03/01/2025 11:50

tinydynamine · 03/01/2025 08:54

It's the job of the opposition parties to hold the government to account NOT eccentric foreign tycoons.

well, where is the opposition noise??

Aduvetday · 03/01/2025 11:51

JHound · 03/01/2025 11:40

And yet the issue is widely discussed.

Evidently “shut down debate” means something different to you than it does in reality.

(and I am well aware why people turn to populist figures and it’s not because of people “shutting down debate”. If people turn to the far right it says a lot about them. And nothing good.)

Commenting on the topic is not “Whataboutery” and being a fiscal conservative is not “hard left”.

You are using words you don’t understand.

Edited

Oh what’s that? More patronising talk from the hard left - trying to shut people down again. I probably have more academic qualifications than your whole street put together. As someone said before. You personally attack people and are a prime example of the problematic left seen on here.

cardibach · 03/01/2025 11:51

Chainzreaction · 03/01/2025 11:08

There are photos of the men all over the Internet! They are not white as the photos prove but the vast majority victims were...

You think Oldham and Rotherham are the only examples of grooming gangs ever? Wow.

User135644 · 03/01/2025 11:51

caramac04 · 03/01/2025 11:15

I’m not a fan of Elon Musk but good on him for highlighting the lack of care for girls and investigation/punishment for the rape gangs.
How can our daughters mean so little to politicians?
Why ?

Because they either live in their own bubble or they need the Muslim vote. Increasing numbers of constituencies will be non white like Jess Phillips's.

Haroldwilson · 03/01/2025 11:51

CandlesClementines · 03/01/2025 11:49

I don't know who said it but on twitter it was said these girls have been abandoned in the name of cultural apeasment.

That's bullshit.

In all honesty, vulnerable girls have always been easy pickings for rapists and abusers. I remember it happening at school in the 90s but the girls would just be labelled sluts.

It's not a new problem. It's not a problem of multiculturalism, really.

mortal2024 · 03/01/2025 11:51

placemats · 03/01/2025 11:47

You're now becoming a bit of a bore, rather like Elon Musk.

You should probably not announce out loud that you find the discussion of grooming gangs raping up to 25000 little girls boring.

Words · 03/01/2025 11:51

Grooming is an inaccurate term, I agree. Grooming is the initial phase of child sexual abuse where the vulnerable victim is plied with drink, drugs, rides in flash cars etc. It is by no means restricted to the 'gang' offences.

It's unfortunate it has become a media shorthand term for the particular pattern of offending involving Asian men preying on vulnerable young white girls.

Child sexual exploitation (CSE) has become the term used in the criminal justice system for this pattern of offending. But that does not make for a snappy headline.

Whatever people may think there IS a specific pattern of offending related to Asian men acting together to target vulnerable young white girls, passing them around between themselves, and worse. This is why they are tried together in groups, as gangs. Blind eyes were turned in these cases by those in positions of responsibility or care. The report on the Rotherham scandal is very illuminating about why this happened.

I can't say similar gang style offending has not happened with groups of white men, of course not. However, white paedophiles tend to predominate in establishment type settings and largely act alone- in boarding schools, youth groups, churches, the entertainment industry and the like. And of course in families. In these types of cases the blind eyes turned were colleagues and authority figures and sadly, family members. I am sure we can all think of plenty of examples.

Both are egregious, horrific crimes. But it does the cause of CSE no good to ignore the fact that a particular MO exists within a particular demographic.

I despise Musk. And I agree his intervention is entirely opportunistic and aimed at building support for his chosen party. This is why uncomfortable facts must be acknowledged as to pretend otherwise simply fuels the far right.

Yeah, I don't think hysterical means what you think it does... I don't even see the OP in that thread as being particularly enraged.
I know that calling people, often women, hysterical, is used to make their argument/point seem ridiculous. It would also be more difficult to convey in text.

Gatecrashermum · 03/01/2025 11:52

This thread is batshit. A handful of sane comments saying there has been an enquiry then frothing-at-the-mouth bat-shit posts about how great Elon is, thorn in the side, horrible details about what these gangs did, must be stopped.

It's not like any other thread I've seen here. Makes me want to never come here again.

ElBandito · 03/01/2025 11:52

Some points:

No one really believes Musk actually, deeply cares about this.

Of course most sex offenders in the UK are white, this is a predominantly white country. What would be interesting is to know if certain categories of people are over represented statistically speaking.

Yes, the Tories were appalling on this, so are Labour.

I'm not sure a council should be conducting an inquiry into themselves on this, (which is what Jess Philips has suggested should happen) when there is possible corruption within the council and police force.

EmmaMaria · 03/01/2025 11:52

BananaNirvana · 03/01/2025 08:57

Of course, because Musk really cares and isn’t just using this as another way to promote his far right policies and get Farage elected.

This horror absolutely needs to be fully investigated but Musk should not be allowed to interfere in UK politics in the way he is doing - he is an incredibly dangerous man.

This.

We do not bow to the demands of right wing insane billionaires whether Elon Musk or Kekius Maximus. He is shining a light on himself - he doesn't give a flying f* about those girls or what they endured. If he wants to make a difference he could start by cleaning up X.

I do not think it is the governments role to appoint local reviews, no matter how damning the circumstances. Independent reviews cost £millions, and times that by the number of possible reviews on the number of possible circumstances - it's not just about "grooming". There were oddly far fewer demands for government reviews - and certainly not from Musk, and nor from Kemi Badenoch - when these issues came to light years ago and on the watch of the Conservative government. Oldham Council held a review in 2019, Rotherham was 2014, Rochdale's review was January last year. All happened on the Tory watch - what did they do? How did they respond?

I'm certainly no fan of Labour but I will wait with baited breath for the Labour-bashing Tories concerned posters to explain the detail of the Conservative governments response whilst they were in power over the more than a decade that this was all happening.

lavenderlou · 03/01/2025 11:52

Surely the involvement of Musk will make it less likely that the government would take any action on a review. They won't want to be seen to be kowtowing to someone like him.

Nameychangington · 03/01/2025 11:53

Fluufer · 03/01/2025 11:38

If you want another inquiry, ask for one yourself. Don't climb blindly into bed with a man who cares about nobody other than himself. He will get you on his side and then fuck you over - because he doesn't care about women and girls.

Which 'man who cares about nobody other than himself'? You could be talking about Musk but could equally be talking about Starmer, Lammy, Farage, Johnson, Cameron, the various council leaders or police chief inspectors or heads of social services in all the towns involved. What do they all have in common? They're all men who care more about their own position than they care about the raped and tortured underage girls who were let down and sold out repeatedly by every agency which should have protected them.

I don't care who brings it up, this needs to be spoken about without fear of being called racist or right wing or a bot.

placemats · 03/01/2025 11:53

mortal2024 · 03/01/2025 11:51

InWalksBarberalla · 03/01/2025 11:53

PeppyGreenFinch · 03/01/2025 10:19

Exactly. Why didn’t Musk raise it then?

He’s such a right wing loon.

Maybe he only heard about it recently? He's not from the UK. I remember vaguely hearing about it when it first came out in my country but didn't understand the extent until recently.

DuncinToffee · 03/01/2025 11:53

Chainzreaction · 03/01/2025 11:33

As a long time poster on the feminist board I have been shouting about grooming gangs since 2015.. I am delighted Elon has come on board to raise awareness of what happened in this country .

Yet you were unaware of the 2022 IICSA reporing and the government's response to the recommendations
