I think this was a failure at local politics level possibly enabled by central government to an extent we will never really know. Teachers, social workers, police and local government officials collectively turned a blind eye. Starmer brought in a Pakistani prosecutor, which was a smart move. Starmer and Andy Burnham have this issue used as a stick to beat them with on a regular basis which is very unfair.

Over40Overdating · 03/01/2025 11:30

It was a huge failure when the Tories did nothing @Chainzreaction - why didn’t you care then?

Why do you only care when a right wing fascist from another country is trying to pin it on a centre left U.K. government?

Where has your outrage and disgust been til now? Why do the lives of these girls only matter to you now, when you’ve had years to express your disgust and try to fight for justice for them?

How much do you actually care about this issue and how much do you really care about being a compliant mouth piece for a racist wanna-be global dictator, who cares not a jot for a single woman or child on this earth.
A man who literally used his young child as a shield in case he was the next target for a vigilante shooter.
You care more about propping up the ego of a man like that than you care about vulnerable girls in Yorkshire.

As a long time poster on the feminist board I have been shouting about grooming gangs since 2015.. I am delighted Elon has come on board to raise awareness of what happened in this country .

Why aren't you also complaining about the lack of apology from white communities?

https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2023/sep/28/braverman-ethnicity-child-grooming-gangs-false-mail-on-sunday

Because white men aren’t over represented as rapists, nor were they racially targeting another group.

It's the job of the opposition parties to hold the government to account NOT eccentric foreign tycoons.

This!!!
This is a far right tactic. He doesn’t give a shit about these girls - he supports the party that would force them to carry any pregnancy resulting from these rapes. It’s just racist dog whistling of the worst kind. These gangs are appalling and the fact that the fear of being called out as racist was a factor is something that needs to be resolved but Elon Musk et al are not the good guys in this - their motives are toxic.

As a long term feminist it fucking terrifies me that you can’t see how dangerous Musk is - really terrifying.

SkiingonKaraSea · 03/01/2025 11:35

The number of posters on here who are more concerned about Musk commenting on an atrocity that has not been addressed, and the Labour government do not want to address because ‘it might help their political opponents’, than the thousands of girls (some as young as 10 or 11) raped and tortured is appalling.

DuncinToffee · 03/01/2025 11:35

mortal2024 · 03/01/2025 11:31

It's wonderful, absolutely fantastic that the rape gangs are finally being given the attention they deserve and anybody who is upset at anyone, no matter who, helping this to happen is utterly vile and a red flag walking.

This tweet was a real eye opener to me

"In the UK, serious crimes such as rape require the Crown Prosecution Service's approval for the police to charge suspects. Who was the head of the CPS when rape gangs were allowed to exploit young girls without facing justice? Keir Starmer, 2008 -2013"

https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1874664089894695221

ANYONE with any influence, power or money must hold their feet to the fire until every single member of every rape gang and every person who helped cover up the rape gangs is in prison.

More eye openers for you

I'd not read anywhere that they were found to be white men. From what I could gather, the main reason the girls were left to be raped for so many years that the police forces and council involved did not want to be seen as racist.

Musk knows nothing. He is just shit stirring.

He chose to highlight the awful crimes of Mohammed Karrar without realising that Starmer was DPP when Karrar and he rest of the Oxford gang were tried and convicted.

@JHound pointing out hypocrisy, lack of facts, incorrect information or agendas is regularly called shutting down debate on here, particularly when it comes to right leaning posters.

Debate must be a one way street or they are being oppressed.

TrainedByKittens · 03/01/2025 11:36

I’m no Starmer fan but there’ve been several inquiries last one reporting a couple of years ago under previous government. I didn't see you posting then @Chainzreaction nor was Musk interested.

Suggest reading this and other articles by Sonia Sodha and the results of the previous inquiries.

https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2022/oct/16/long-as-we-avert-gaze-sexual-abuse-we-will-continue-fail-children

There’s a lot coming out of the previous inquiries that need to be followed up, I’d like to see real ramifications for the police who didn’t do their jobs for starters.

As long as we avert our gaze from sexual abuse, we will continue to fail children | Sonia Sodha

Ahead of the findings of a major inquiry, it’s clear we’re not even getting the basics right

Precisely. They should be held to the same standard as white people.

Just like white people are forced to apologise endlessly for slavery and colonialism- regardless of family history or ethnic background.

Just like white people turned out in force counter-protesting the August riots.

White people have not been forced to apologise for slavery or colonialism though. Ever. At best some countries governments have been asked to apologise but never white people and they have never been forced to.

”White people” did not turn out in force to counter protest the August riots. Some local communities did but the people turning out included all people of all ethnicities, not specifically white people (and something tells me you supported the August riots.) And a lot of white people on line have actually spent time criticising the rioters punishments.

Where have white people collectively apologised for white criminals in the UK and when have they been asked to?

The thread is literally about Musk though - it’s in the title 🙄. That doesn’t mean they care more about Musk - it means they recognise how little he gives a fuck and that he’s using these girls for his own political ends. 🤬

justasking111 · 03/01/2025 11:36

Suella Braverman turned down a request for an enquiry a couple of years ago. They've all dodged it.

Haroldwilson · 03/01/2025 11:36

It's a racist dog whistle. As if Musk gives a fuck about British teenagers. They just want to stir up race hate to get people to vote for reform. Musk has just given loads of funding to reform.

White men do the same gang grooming thing but it doesn't make the headlines.

Needmoresleep · 03/01/2025 11:37

Common humanity.

Gang rape of vulnerable young girls is inhumane in any circumstances. It should not happen, especially in an affluent democracy.

EVERYONE should be concerned. The fact that Elon is speaking up is neither here nor there. Why are our politicians not as concerned.

Elon is apparently on the spectrum so will say things as he sees them. What he sees here is awful. He is not always right, and people may be right to distrust him. But they should not ignore this.

Workisntworking · 03/01/2025 11:37

I'm not happy with the prospect of any rich person or organisation being able to financially skew an election.

However, I am very pleased that Musk is using his power to shine a light on these rape gangs. I don't care who shines that light.

That's not to say I think Musk is perfect - very far from it, and I'm not keen on the company he keeps. That said, if my teenage had the choice of two lifts to get into, I'd rather she git in the one with Musk and a couple of his mates in rather than the one with a 3 members of the rape gang.

DancingNotDrowning · 03/01/2025 11:37

Although there has been a national enquiry (IICSA) into how institutions have handled their duties in relation to protecting children from SA, the “grooming cases” were part of a much broader scope and do not as focussed as might be appropriate.

There have also been local enquiries which have been narrower in scope but a local enquiry lacks the appropriate jurisdiction to drive change in other councils and doesn’t have the requisite oversight to enact national reforms and legislative changes not to mention the potential conflicts of interest.

Someone with enough weight highlights this total dereliction of justice for women and girls, and many prefer to virtue signal and pinch their noses here rather than hoping victims will finally get justice?

It’s just so wrong and self-serving. Purity politics is an awful, selfish thing, really.

If I thought we could just take the bits we choose from Musk, I’d be all in favour of his intervention.

You are quite wrong to think those expressing concern are virtue signalling. We recognise that there is a huge price to pay for allowing him to interfere in how our state is run.

This is demagoguery in action. He’s offering up an enticing proposition, but if we accept we’re undermining our own freedom and democracy.

This thread absolutely terrifies me, to be honest. Reading about Musk’s foreign interference recently, my fear was that not enough people knew. Instead, it turns out that they’re all in favour as long as a bit of what he’s offering is to their liking.

Zebedee999 · 03/01/2025 11:26

When our own government want to cover up the rape gangs (and don't know what a woman is etc) then I don't care who calls them out on it. Good on Musk for raising the profile of this travesty.
Our own Minster for Safeguarding wants it buried as she only wants to safeguard these gangs as they predominantly vote labour whereas yound girls can't vote. Despicable, it's all about the votes not what is right. This government is not for women.
I've worked within some of these communities and in Bradford 63% of Pakistani women married their cousins, a large number of whom were underage at the time of marriage... but Labour will not act on any of these things, always ignored or covered up. Minister of Safeguarding and Labour are completely failing women at every level.

If you want another inquiry, ask for one yourself. Don't climb blindly into bed with a man who cares about nobody other than himself. He will get you on his side and then fuck you over - because he doesn't care about women and girls.

@Chainzreaction a long time poster and vocal advocate for justice for these victims who had to change their name to continue the fight for justice with zero posting history. Just coincidentally enthused by Musk. Sounds likely.
