I think there probably should be an enquiry but I'm pretty sure that there won't be one now that Musk has interfered in the matter. What government is ever going to be seen to bow to pressure from a foreign billionaire who is clearly just political point scoring?

For about the millionth time there had been an inquiry. Its recommendations were not implemented by the Tory government. Labour have essentially said local authorities should look at their procedures based on this report. In other words, they are suggesting the already completed report be actioned.

GinAndJuice99 · 03/01/2025 10:34

He is completely irrelevant to the UK and our politics. The only time he impinged on our lives was when he took over Twitter but now most people have abandoned that anyway. Just ignore him like the rest of us do.

Beginningtolookalot · 03/01/2025 10:34

A light needed shining and an inquiry is needed but as far as Elon Musk interfering goes - my question is why - what’s in it for him ?

Imagine being angry because someone is trying to stop the grooming gangs. You ought to be ashamed of yourselves.

Imagine thinking that's what people are angry about.

I wonder how many bleating about Musk talking about Rotherham as "interfering" but don't mind Obama stuck his oar in on Brexit.

Much like the Post Office scandal none of our political parties have come out of this exactly shining in glory.

Someone else on here pointed out Conservatives had been in power for the past 14 years, that's true but it's also true that this started well before that, was happening when Labour were in power, and they hung anyone who tried to bring this to light out to dry.

I can't abide Musk but his interference has shone light on the fact that these gangs carried out monstrous atrocities on girls as young as 11. I think that a lot of people have only just realised the extent of the depravity this week.

Fortunately and sometimes unfortunately people have the right to say what they want. How do we judge whether that interference is right or wrong? Are countries right to comment on the war in Gaza or Ukraine? Should anyone outside the USA comment on Trump's illegal activities or Biden's possible senility?

Talk is largely outside our control. Whether our political parties should be allowed to accept funds from non UK citizens is another matter.

it is one thing to express an opinion, but Musk is gaining considerable political power. He also uses (what used to be) Twitter to strengthen and "authenticate" those opinions and to influence millions. He also has the money to support those groups who share his opinion - so hardly just a personal view. His interventions in our politics is a dangerous precedent.

HagathaChristi · 03/01/2025 10:32

Why not? It is perfectly valid to question why Musk is focusing on this particular example of abuse.

I think we all know he is trying to exert influence over the UK for his own interests. He is also shedding light on a cover-up by UK officials who turned a blind eye to girls being raped, which we all need to acknowledge and accept happened. I admit to being very conflicted.

namechangeGOT · 03/01/2025 10:35

How many of you, criticising Musk and asking why he didn't do this in 2013, actually tweeted and protested and took a proper stand for us girls in Rotherham suffering at the hands of these fucking monsters?? What were you doing for us in Rotherham or Rochdale or the countless other towns across the country subjected to what went on and what is still going on?

Criticise musk all you want, but ask yourself what you were doing. The knowledge of the sexual exploitation (which is a fancy term for my classmates being repeatedly violently anally, vaginally and orally raped and trafficked whilst simultaneously being told their mums and little sisters would be burned to death if they spoke) has been around for many years now. So, how many of you have been vocal about it, how many of your tweeted and campaigned, how many of you organised the types of gatherings we saw for poor Sarah Everard? Fucking none of you thats how many. I don't give a fuck why Musk is doing what he's doing, I just care that someone has.

AnonymousBleep · 03/01/2025 10:36

Elon Musk is no less evil than any of the grooming gang members. He doesn't care about grooming gangs, he just wants to meddle in UK politics as part of his megamaniacal quest for world domination. Vile man.

I need specific details of this cover-up - letters, emails etc, not just hearsay or opinion. Can you point me towards these, please? I would be genuinely interested to see this if you have a link.

Wanting men to stop being rapists is not right wing guff. This is exactly why girls were allowed to be raped and branded. People were too scared of this bullshit.

Only some men though, Musk seems more than happy to support rapists if they can give him contracts and a job in government.

Musk's support for the far right in Germany, Italy and Reform & Laxley Lennon in the UK suggests his motivation is indeed simply to undermine democracy in Europe.

A SpaceX flight attendant said Elon Musk exposed himself and propositioned her for sex, documents show. The company paid $250,000 for her silence.

SpaceX paid a flight attendant $250,000 in severance after she accused Elon Musk of exposing himself and offering to buy her a horse in exchange for a sexual massage.

This shit happens and in a much larger scale in America. Day in, day out, for years and years. We're talking hundreds of thousands of children. Why is he not speaking out about that and pressuring his own government/president/alphabet soup agencies if he cares that much?

Read the details of what happened in Rochdale and Rotherham then come back and tell us whether you still believe Musk is as evil as those men.

But Musk doesn’t give a fuck. We need someone who actually wants justice to pick this up not someone using these girls for his political ends.

And is the current Labour government not using this politically by not having the full blown inquiry. Since they are loath to piss off Muslim voters. Keir Starmer as Crown Prosecutor has questions to answer but he is now Prime Minister and will not want any scrutiny of his own actions.

Here you go, the full blown inquiry reported in 2022

DrCoconut · 03/01/2025 10:40

@BananaNirvana yes, funny how Farage hates "unelected foreigners interfering in the UK's politics" until it suits him. These gangs are of course reprehensible but Elon Musk has no business being involved.

There's already been a full blown enquiry. Labour aren't actually in a position to unhappen it.

The serious questions that need to be asked are why the Tories didn't implement the recommendations.

Yeah, I do.

What happened in Rochdale and Rotherham is awful. Using it as leverage to try and bring down the legitimately elected government to get another Musk stooge (Farage) into power shows that Musk doesn't give a shit about those girls in real life, they're just political fodder for him.

fromthevault · 03/01/2025 10:41

Elon Musk is an extremely dangerous man, and anyone who's ok with him sticking his nose into the political business of the UK - regardless of the topic - needs their bumps felt.

Talk about the thin end of the wedge. I'm genuinely scared for w hat it would mean for this country to have him wielding any sort of power.

Alltheprettyseahorses · 03/01/2025 10:41

SugarPlumpFairyCakes · 03/01/2025 09:12

@Nameychangington you might not care what colour the perpetrators skis are but for many it is the reason they are outraged. Observe, read and listen to many of those most vocal and outraged on all the SM platforms. You will see a pattern in their protest.

People need to realise abuse is a problem regardless of who does it. It's very dangerous to regard it as an immigrant problem or a brown man problem. And many do. If we allow that to happen then many more girls will be in danger.

The rape gangs have been found to be a specific cultural problem and those findings have been suppressed and discredited for years by authority figures who think supposed left-wing credentials matter more than girls lives, preventing any action being taken. But you're saying that if we recognise that pattern we're putting girls in danger. Care to explain how?

SkiingonKaraSea · 03/01/2025 10:42

BananaNirvana · 03/01/2025 08:57

Of course, because Musk really cares and isn’t just using this as another way to promote his far right policies and get Farage elected.

This horror absolutely needs to be fully investigated but Musk should not be allowed to interfere in UK politics in the way he is doing - he is an incredibly dangerous man.

On the same basis I presume you think no one should comment on the Taliban’s treatment of women? Of course Musk can comment on anything he considers wrong - he is entitled to have his view as much as anyone.

It says rather too much about the current left if they would rather not hold and inquiry into this because they think the evidence would be so damning as give succour to their political opponents, rather than wanting to do their all to ensure justice for thousands of girls.

BrickRedLipstick · 03/01/2025 10:42

Nobody is happy with Musk trying to destabilise the UK. The cover-up of the abuse was a scandal. Both of things can be true.

Onand · 03/01/2025 10:44

I’m very much in favour of light being shone on this outrageous scandal, how these rapists have actually managed to get away with their crimes is mind blowing.

As for Elon Musk- in my opinion, I am hopeful that his ‘meddling’ from a his X account will disrupt our politics to invoke real change for the better.

I do also think that he should also use some of his vast wealth to do a lot of good, whether that happens remains to be seen but he has an opportunity to carve a place in history as one of the greats.
