Far right as a phrase to shut people up is old skool tactics. It doesn’t wash. People are feeling angry not only about this but their standard of living. People were told it was the ewwwwwvvvil Tories. Labour were a force for change. Then Labour have predictably turned out to be just as shit and considerably more right wing. Look at the tax higher earners VS everyone else (including marginal) under Rishi et al. vs Labour.

People are disenfranchised. The reason Musk, Farage, Trump are filling the void is because the left have pushed away the politically homeless. The USA are 4 years ahead of us. The left trying to shut down ANY conversation on issues (from centrist to right) such has immigration has led to this. People are feeling poor and angry and this is like oil on the fire. Screaming right wing, racists, thugs, bigot, evwwwwwil Tory doesn’t wash anymore - it’s actually perpetuated the issue. People are now turning to populist figures they feel speak for them. I guess you’ve all studied history?

It is right wing when other scandals such as the CSE in the church is not mentioned, were those affected less traumatised because it was white men perpetrating the abuse?

That has been covered up for decades and decades, white men abusing children.

Betchyaby · 03/01/2025 10:29

@Firealarm1414 I wouldn't waste your breath. I usually avoid engaging in politics on MN because it is predominantly left wing. You will get bundled on by hundreds with not a shred of logic between them.

HagathaChristi · 03/01/2025 10:30

Elon Musk must believe that he is King of the World because he is the wealthiest man living, but it is important that we ensure that this individual does not have a say in our politics.

The person upthread who said that he wants to do for Farage what he did for Trump is spot on. Can you seriously imagine what this country would become if one-trick pony Farage, who thinks there is one solution to all our ills, was to become prime minister?

tinydynamine · 03/01/2025 08:54

It's the job of the opposition parties to hold the government to account NOT eccentric foreign tycoons.

It’s the responsibility of everyone to call out abuse and safeguarding issues. He may get a lot wrong but Elon is right about this issue.

People have been raising it for years now and were labeled as...you guessed it "right wing loons". What a fucking crock of shit when these girls are being raped and everyone knows it, but no matter who calls attention to it, they are derided. If I recall correctly one of the victims was even arrested for a hate crime not too long ago for speaking out. But yes, Elon Musk is the problem 🙄

Oh no, the people raising it aren't right wing loons, but Musk is.

You're missing the point. Musk needs to STAY OUT OF OUR BUSINESS.

Don't try and worm your way into OUR politics chum, it ain't gonna happen. The British won't allow it.

!

And what about atrocities that occur against women in other countries? Why isn't he calling those out?

I don’t disagree. I am no a racist. However this is not a conversation about other examples of abuse.

I don't think it's as left wing as it used to be. (On here.)

I think people need to stop engaging with a certain poster who is obviously very disturbed. It's best to just report.

This is chilling and sinister. You don’t agree with a poster fair enough but trying to silence and ostracise them is an insidious tactic. We can make our own minds up thank you whether we wish to engage.

kiwiane · 03/01/2025 10:31

Musk is trying to influence the next steps that our elected government takes to restrict social media.
Kemi Badenoch is making a big mistake if she aligns herself with Musk and Tommy Robinson; where is the old Tory party now?

I wonder how many bleated about Obama talking about Brexit as "interfering" but don't mind Musk sticking his oar in.

All perpetrators of abuse should be nailed and prosecuted and imprisoned forever.

Wonder why the Tory government didn't do anything on their 14 years of power. Strange

I wonder how many bleating about Musk talking about Rotherham as "interfering" but don't mind Obama stuck his oar in on Brexit.

Much like the Post Office scandal none of our political parties have come out of this exactly shining in glory.

Someone else on here pointed out Conservatives had been in power for the past 14 years, that's true but it's also true that this started well before that, was happening when Labour were in power, and they hung anyone who tried to bring this to light out to dry.

I can't abide Musk but his interference has shone light on the fact that these gangs carried out monstrous atrocities on girls as young as 11. I think that a lot of people have only just realised the extent of the depravity this week.

Fortunately and sometimes unfortunately people have the right to say what they want. How do we judge whether that interference is right or wrong? Are countries right to comment on the war in Gaza or Ukraine? Should anyone outside the USA comment on Trump's illegal activities or Biden's possible senility?

Talk is largely outside our control. Whether our political parties should be allowed to accept funds from non UK citizens is another matter.

BrickRedLipstick · 03/01/2025 10:31

Why not? It is perfectly valid to question why Musk is focusing on this particular example of abuse.

We could stop him (and any other foreigner) from donating to British political businesses. Sorry, parties.

Exactly.

Child sexual exploitation by organised networks report

I think this may be one of the reports that Elon and Kemi have failed to read:

https://www.iicsa.org.uk/investigations-research/investigations/child-sexual-exploitation-by-groups-and-gangs.html

Halfemptyhalfling · 03/01/2025 10:32

It was horrendous but as far as I understand it has stopped now. The Tory cuts to the court system have left it with a massive backlog so its important to cut this rather than reopen a dealt with case.

Crazybaby123 · 03/01/2025 10:32

Of course the goomer gangs need full investigation. I am also very concerned that Elon is interfering in our democracy. The views on women and womens rights that the far right Elon/Trump have are equally dangerous to women and girls. I am worried about this in equal measure.

MereDintofPandiculation · 03/01/2025 10:33

But yes, Elon Musk is the problem

Elon Musk has called on the King to dissolve Parliament. So yes, I think he is a problem

BishyBarnyBee · 03/01/2025 10:33

Can I ask about the use of the word "torture"?

It's clear these were rape gangs. It's clear the system deeply failed vulnerable young girls. As I understand it, the men involved are now, rightly , serving long sentences. But the only place I've seen torture mentioned is on here. Does anyone have a reliable source for that claim?

CamelByCamel · 03/01/2025 10:33

HagathaChristi · 03/01/2025 10:32

Especially when he's helped a rapist get into the White House.

Noteveryoneshouldvote · 03/01/2025 10:15

Has Elon highlighted the endemic child sexual abuse within the church? I'm not sure he has as it doesn't fit his agenda. Wise up

💯

There is one common denominator to all rape gangs, be it Rotherham, The Pelicot case, CoE/Catholic churches, Saville, Epstein, Tates, the 70k men on Telegram rape chats, Met police. It ain’t skin colour, it’s the sex of the perpetrators. And too often, other men (in the police, the church, local govt, CPS) don’t want to believe it.
So far only Nazir Ali has actually had the chops to say it, not Musk or Farage or Yaxley-Lennon.

It may be NAMALT but it’s too fucking many of them and they are often enabled by SM.

When Musk takes some action to prevent sexual violence within his actual sphere of influence I’ll be impressed.

You really don’t see the irony in Kemi and Elon ignoring the calls for an investigation during a Tory govt and then pouncing on it during a Labour govt to try to make it look like Labour incompetence?

This is not about what ‘people’ have been raising, this is about how cynical and morally bankrupt Elon and the Tories are.

1dayatatime · 03/01/2025 10:33

Labour councillors deliberately didn't want to disclose the religious or racial identities of the perpetrators in Rochdale because they thought it would harm their electoral chances by boosting support for the Conservatives:

dywpk.org.uk/ex-labour-chairman-advised-against-discussing-grooming-gang-ethnicity/

Jewell25 · 03/01/2025 10:34

This mass rape & torture has definitely been minimised and swept under the carpet by government. We know why. It’s absolutely disgusting and I don’t care who highlights it and demands action as long as something is done to address it.
