Should she replace it? Part 3

1000 replies

Langarg · 02/01/2025 19:09

I can’t believe we have a part 3 🤣 this has provided some lighthearted entertainment at a time where I’m feeling really let down by someone I considered a good friend. So thank you! I have posted an update on thread 2, will post it here also.

I have sent the following text message ‘Having reflected on what you have said, how the airwrap was lost/broken or otherwise is irrelevant. I considered asking you for pictures of the broken airwrap or asking to speak to your sister to ask her what happened but it will get us nowhere. All that matters is I am down a Dyson airwrap and I want a new replacement. You’ll need to either transfer me the £399 tonight to pay for this or purchase it yourself from boots and send me the email receipt this evening. You can then sort out with your sister whether she is going to contribute to the cost of it. We can then put this behind us’

I have no interest in maintaining the friendship after this for obvious reasons. I am worried that she’s seen the thread (how can she not have 🤣) and knows this fine well so will have no intention of replacing it sadly.

I don’t think I’ll ever get the truth (was there even a wedding at this rate?! 🤣) all that matters to me now is getting a replacement airwrap!!!!

Hope you don't mind me making light, OP.

Best way though with these things, it'll sort itself out.

Good on you. If anyone damaged or stole my Dyson Hair wrap I would lose my shit! They would be 6 feet under my garden rocking a bouncy blow dry!

Sorry for the lack of replies, it’s been a non stop day at work! I’m sure you won’t be surprised to hear that I haven’t heard from my friend.

I asked a mutual friend for her sisters number (did not tell mutual friend about the airwrap saga) and tried calling her on my way home from work. She didn’t answer, I wonder if it’s because it was a number she didn’t recognise. I left a voicemail and followed it up with a text message asking her to call me. Whether or not this was the right thing to do who knows!

I must sit down tonight and properly look in to the small claims process, it seems this may be my only shot at getting something back now

This has gotten monotonous.

34 pages into the third of three threads and here we are, right where we began.

I’m beginning to wonder if there ever was a Dyson AirWrap or if we’re all a bunch of suckers.

This thread has me gripped! I’ve been watching air wrap tutorials on YouTube seriously considering getting one 😂

I think your responses have been right apart from ending the friendship part as surely she’ll just ghost you next? I hope you get it sorted soon.

Yes, the thread is probably generating quite a few sales for Dyson. Maybe they should replace the Airwrap themselves in return!

( ooh, this is how conspiracy theories start. Is this Dyson’s thread all along?! 👀Only joking! Hope you get your replacement OP, you have been treated appallingly )

Owly11 · 04/01/2025 06:56

I guess the moral of the story is 'neither a borrower nor a lender be'. In my experience you should only lend something if you are happy never to see it again because it is surprising how few things do get returned at all. If I get asked by someone to borrow something I just say 'oh I don't lend x out anymore'. Usually that's enough. If they persist I might say something like 'I am sure you would look after it but I have had so many things not returned that I just don't do it anymore'. If they persist after that then you already know they are a CF who doesn't respect other people's boundaries.

My hairdresser says they're not as good as the GHD wet to dry ones, I have one and it's great (also cheaper).

Dyson too tax-dodging for me anyway.

The OP has issued few updates.

In fact so few, that eager thread followers are getting restless, saying the same things that others have said 100 times already, arguing with each other, and turning on OP.

None of this is OPs fault.

Curtainqueen · 04/01/2025 09:40

You might also want to consider telling all your mutual friends what she did before she lies to them too.

Nikki75 · 04/01/2025 09:54

Wow I've been following this.
I would do exactly what you're doing this isn't a friend you need in your life.
This isn't a hairstyler for £20 it's a fab piece of equipment for hair and an investment she has definitely had no intention of giving this back.
I'd be absolutely furious I am on your behalf.
How deceitful is your so called friend.
Do not give up on this until you get a replacement or the money.
I'd let your other friends know I wouldn't be keeping this a secret she isn't a friend someone wants . X

Great response your way past excuses & lies now....

Ihavenoclu · 04/01/2025 10:09

@Langarg you were right earlier when you said it doesn't matter if it was the sister that broke it, the hubby who forgot it, if she sold it or the dog ate it. What matters is that you are one airwrap down and the person you lent it to, needs to replace it. Everything else is just noise, gaslighting and flying monkeys.
You have already written off the friendship and so the only thing remaining now is to get your lost item replaced. Go via small claims court. It is fairly straight forward and then don't look back.

Curtainqueen · 04/01/2025 09:40

You might also want to consider telling all your mutual friends what she did before she lies to them too.

I would not do that. I would absolutely not share with the others and if they asked me about it I would refuse to talk about it. I just have always felt that the person who gossips is the person I dont believe. I think silence is golden when it comes to things like this.

I went through it myself once and it was awful. Big social group and me and another had a massive fallout. I would not discuss it with anyone else, other party slagged me off to all and sundry and tried to drag others into it and pick sides. I stood firm. It was incredibly tempting to defend myself and tell the truth, because she caused a lot of problems for me and my kids for nearly a year. But I kept repeating to others I will not discuss it because it is between me and her and I wont talk behind someones back. I did lose some friends and acquaintenances for a bit but everyone came back eventually. She went a bit nutso and made people choose which didnt end well for her.

Just my view though. I know others will disagree, but I think it shows more integrity to keep absolutely schtum.
