Should she replace it? Part 3

1000 replies

Langarg · 02/01/2025 19:09

I can’t believe we have a part 3 🤣 this has provided some lighthearted entertainment at a time where I’m feeling really let down by someone I considered a good friend. So thank you! I have posted an update on thread 2, will post it here also.

I have sent the following text message ‘Having reflected on what you have said, how the airwrap was lost/broken or otherwise is irrelevant. I considered asking you for pictures of the broken airwrap or asking to speak to your sister to ask her what happened but it will get us nowhere. All that matters is I am down a Dyson airwrap and I want a new replacement. You’ll need to either transfer me the £399 tonight to pay for this or purchase it yourself from boots and send me the email receipt this evening. You can then sort out with your sister whether she is going to contribute to the cost of it. We can then put this behind us’

I have no interest in maintaining the friendship after this for obvious reasons. I am worried that she’s seen the thread (how can she not have 🤣) and knows this fine well so will have no intention of replacing it sadly.

I don’t think I’ll ever get the truth (was there even a wedding at this rate?! 🤣) all that matters to me now is getting a replacement airwrap!!!!

Cant believe some CF's on this thread are defending the tea leaf of a friend!

Team op all the way. Hope this gets resolved

Tea leaf friend 🤣🤣🤣🤣

The last time I heard “tea leaf” used in this way was a good 25 years ago. But yes there are some real brass necks on here that have the audacity to defend the tea leaf!

Longsight2019 · 03/01/2025 18:01

The absence of update here suggests the lying CF has gone to ground.

Time to ramp this up through small claims or the authorities.

FestiveFruitloop · 03/01/2025 18:05

PlopSofa · 02/01/2025 23:18

And the thread where a ‘friend’/thief stole some reading glasses…worth £300!

https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/am_i_being_unreasonable/5121746-to-want-my-glasses-back

OMG yes, I remember that! CF-ery of the first water there too.

Diddlyumptious · 03/01/2025 18:07

It's so simple she borrowed, not returned it, for whatever reason doesn't matter, she needs to pay up or buy a replacement.

Langarg · 03/01/2025 12:41

Oh I missed your previous comment regarding this, thank you I will look in to this!

@imhalflistening we have been friends for around 15 years

She won't still have it, pigeons flew down and carried it off.

OhcantthInkofaname · 03/01/2025 18:19

Ask sister what she did with the broken one?

Petlover9 · 03/01/2025 18:20

Definitely, you need money for a new Dyson, and your cf friend needs to be taught a lesson. She clearly has no respect for property belonging to others so being called to a small claims court is what she deserves.

CrowleyKitten · 03/01/2025 18:27

say to her, "oh, that's good then. it will only cost you £200 each, then."

Joelle84 · 03/01/2025 18:28

Still not heard from her @Langarg ?

No one needs to trawl through pages and pages of posts when they can just see all of the OPs at the click of a button.
If you CBA to do that, or don’t have time to do so then posters should maybe just consider keeping their thoughts to themselves.

Newish to mumsnet..how do I do that pls 🙏 thanks 👌

Yes. This. What happened to the broken Dyson?

I said this too on a previous post.

If they say the sister threw it away the story is completely bullshit! You wouldn't throw it away. You would dry it out and keep trying it (to keep yourself if you're a CF )

Thank you

AutoP1lot · 03/01/2025 18:45

In response to the pps pointing out how to see all op's posts etc, I'm on the app (Android) and it's awful.

I don't have the option to only see the op's posts . And placemarking doesn't work either: even though I've commented myself, every time I reopen the thread it puts me right at the start and I have to manually scroll right through to the end.

If I go into MN through the browser, as soon as I go into chat it sends me back to the app. It's a massive pain.

Omg so simple. Thank you! That will save me scrolling so much.

Normallynumb · 03/01/2025 18:51

Although the ex friend didn't want to use her credit card( who does!) she must have the means to pay that off over time.
I wouldn't trust another word she says
I hope you get a reply today.

FeralWoman · 03/01/2025 18:53

@AutoP1lot Delete the app so it can’t redirect to there, and stick to the browser for Mumsnet.

outerspacepotato · 03/01/2025 18:53

Ex friend is a lying thief who has stolen something worth hundreds of £s from you. I'd take it to small claims unless she returns your Dyson intact and undamaged with all parts or money to purchase a brand new one. That's not an insignificant sum of money.

She's also tried to foist the blame on to innocent people to the point of questioning if you had reported your item stolen. That's lowdown.

gardenflowergirl · 03/01/2025 18:56

The Daily Mail have picked up your thread too, you've been in the national press. Your friend has likely seen that.

Sorry, I haven't read all the posts. But it would be interesting to know what happened to the broken Dyson.

Maddy70 · 03/01/2025 18:58

If it's broken can't she get it repaired?

AlexisP90 · 03/01/2025 19:07

jazzybelle · 03/01/2025 18:57

Sorry, I haven't read all the posts. But it would be interesting to know what happened to the broken Dyson.

I'm dying to know what her response would be to this question! If they don't have it then it's for sure a lie.

If they do, then if I was OP I would definitely want to get my hands on it because the story of wine totally destroying it just doesn't feel real

CoverMySoul · 03/01/2025 19:11

Hopefully, the OP is cracking on with an alternative route to resolution, as the lying CF is now ghosting her. Except, of course, someone will have broken her phone/lost her phone serving lunch to orphans/dropped it off the side of a ferry.

I wouldn't hesitate to let your friend group know what's happened here, OP. The shame is hers entirely, you are blameless, and God knows what's she trying grift/lift from other people in her life.

The radio silence is the final insult really.
