Friends awful baby name

My best friend is due to have a baby soon, they are having a girl and she has been talking baby names with me, which feels super special. She has got a few very lovely traditional girly names, and a couple of more unusual choices, but not ‘offensive’. They are names I would expect from her. However, she has one absolutely terrible name, that actually just feels very cruel. It would be bad even by American standards and ‘tragedeigh’ names. It’s not that I wouldn’t choose it, it’s just crazy stupid and the child will be ridiculed by peers and adults. Some of her choices are genuinely wonderful, but I’m so worried she will madly choose this one awful name, I can’t say anything can I?!

It’s not a ‘made up name’, it’s a word that you’d use, a bit like Integrity. That’s the closest I think I can get without saying what it is

Sorry completely pointless without name

I just saw a thread where the perfectly ordinary names ‘Gabriel’ and ‘Raphael’ were described as cruel, so going to take this with a pinch of salt. People like different things and have very different metrics re what’s unusual.

If it was the only name on her list and she was dead set on using it, I’d stay quiet. But since it’s one of several, I would absolutely say something and I know my good friends would do the same if it were me. Not in a cruel way, just a ‘Oh I’m really not sure about that one. I love all your other ideas though!’

We are currently coming up with names for our DD and, if my friends said they didn’t like one of our ideas, I wouldn’t take any offence to it personally.

Oh no, think ‘Integrity’. That’s where this is going! I’m not badmouthing actual names!

If it's really that bad are you sure no one else has said anything? If it's truly terrible I think I'd find a subtle way to say something but it does depend on how bad it is I think.

Well, you're not going to share the name so this is all a bit pointless. No "similar" name can help with the discussion, either.

Ultimately, what she chooses to call her baby will have no impact on you whatsoever so I'm not sure why you're stressing so much.

So, a virtue? Like an old Puritan name or something that would be popular with West Africans (we love those names).

Or do you mean a random noun?

Charity? Because that's a name I've seen a fair bit.

Honesty? I've seen that listed in "baby names" lists. I think "Perjury" is prettier, though.

There are lots of names similar to this - honesty, faith, serenity, honour etc etc

Is it Precious? I think it is a popular name in Nigeria and Ghana. I really like it.
