I see more and more posters are referring to their husbands as "hubby". I can't stand the abbreviation and wish it would disappear.🫥

“The ick” has to be on the ban list!

Agree: I find this far worse than “hubby”. Particularly because it’s now used to mean “Anything which has slightly irritated me.”

Naice boils my piss every time I see it, such twattery.

Hubby - can't get too worked up sometimes can be used tongue in cheek.

Boils my piss is worse than everything else put together.

Can I have a handhold makes me sick.

erm …how can you expose yourself like this @Sasskitty I’m embarrassed for you !

No idea what you’re talking about 🤷‍♀️

Pinetreethree · 31/12/2024 11:53

As long as 'nibbles', 'nibbly bits' and 'picky bits' can be added to the banned list too.

IRL I hate all the words used to describe tasty finger food including 'finger food' 'nibbles' 'canapes' 'light bites'. If anyone has a good word or phrase which isn't irritating I would love to know it.

fuckingidiotseverywhere · 31/12/2024 13:37

@Lovelyview Buffet food?

Whatevershallidowithmylife · 31/12/2024 13:40

Niche job - unless we’re talking in terms of going to space then nothings really that niche?

fuckingidiotseverywhere · 31/12/2024 13:37

@Lovelyview Buffet food?

Yes. A buffet could have hot food, plates and cutlery but it's a less annoying phrase than the others so a fair compromise thanks.

Picky bits/picky tea and fuming. All on my banned list but none annoy me as much as kiddies Envy

I wouldn’t lump this in with an acronym ban on here.

good work Holmes ! but I fear it falls on deaf ears

Kinneddar · 31/12/2024 10:35

I'd ban all the 'D' prefixes ESPECIALLY DDog & DCat. I mean why???

I think hubby is less annoying than DH especially when DH is far from D & actually being a total prick

I know right, dear dog is hilarious. My DD has a DTapeworm lol

Can I have a handhold makes me sick.

How on earth can someone asking for support make you feel sick?

you clearly weren't in the lines when they were handing out compassion, empathy or sympathy.

i hope you're not horrible enough to say that on a thread asking for one.

Fabulastic · 31/12/2024 13:49

Yes. Should be banned along with picky bits, selfies, sunnies, bloody holibobs....could go on but I just seeth quietly every time I hear these and other infantilising terms and refuse to use them.

SnoopySantaPaws · 31/12/2024 13:50

Sasskitty · 31/12/2024 13:33

Really?

you could just google the word instead of looking like a muppet announcing you hate a word you don't know the meaning of.

myhundredk · 31/12/2024 13:51

Can we fling in the word "infantilising" while we're at it please? Ugh.

SnoopySantaPaws · 31/12/2024 13:52

fuckingidiotseverywhere · 31/12/2024 13:37

@Lovelyview Buffet food?

But it's not buffet food.

@Lovelyview

I've settled on 'bits & pieces' as the least offensive.

SoNiceToComeHomeTo · 31/12/2024 13:55

Thepeopleversuswork · 31/12/2024 10:25

I mean... yeah it's a bit twee but no worse than a million other MN acronyms and phrases. People also seem to complain a lot about hollibobs. It's almost a daily occurrence that people complain about these two words.

I have plenty of personal pet hates on here, of which the worst is people banging on ad nauseam about how they are an "introvert" when they're actually a grumpy, misanthropic arsehole who doesn't like people but apparently also wants their attention.

But it's a free country and a free board and you can't ban everyone.

Your definition of introvert really made me laugh. I’m one, and my definition is that I lack the stamina to keep talking and listening to people without craving regular breaks to read a good book, and I’m insufficiently relaxed to be in a crowd without getting exhausted. But maybe yours is more accurate!

PierceMorgansChin · 31/12/2024 13:56

Thepeopleversuswork · 31/12/2024 12:44

@Melodyfair

Thank you for this, I couldn’t quite put my finger on why I hate, or at least am uncomfortable with self declared ‘introverts’. It’s the fact they have to announce it with insulting memes and tell everyone who will listen how they hate being paid attention to by shouting it from social media rooftops.

It's appalling: hypocritical and performative nonsense. They want both to be "left alone" and in the same breath to be celebrated for the quirky uniqueness of, er, preferring a night in with a cup of hot chocolate or not having any friends. While insulting the rest of us by shouting to the world and his wife that they "hate people!" and making nasty digs at "extroverts" (ie people who can cope socially without having the vapours).

Lots of people are introverts. Most of us manage to get through life without insulting 50% of the human species. Fuck off to the far end of fuck off and fuck off some more.

The vapours 😂

DorothyStorm · 31/12/2024 14:00

‘If genders were reversed…’
but they're not so fuck right off with your deeply ingrained misogyny.

PierceMorgansChin · 31/12/2024 14:06

Enigma52 · 31/12/2024 13:05

Also " game changer" and " reach out"

Don't ask me why, but they bloody annoy me. I see GC a lot re: HRT on the menopause board. Maybe because HRT is " game changing"?

Reach out, just reminds me of someone with a very long arm, trying to reach something far away! 🤷‍♀️

Yes I dislike 'reach out' as well. Its like you can't message or call nowadays, you just have to reach out. Also, 'price point' instead of just 'price'

My DH used to refer to this sort of stuff as "shivery bites".
No idea what it means but he was Scots.

Thanks but I think you've missed my point here though: this is not my definition of introvert at all. I'm also an introvert but I'm not an "introvert" in the performative sense of having to advertise it all the time.

There's a recently fashionable thing which seems to have exploded on here of people having to advertise to the world how much they hate other people which is deeply tedious and mildly offensive. Endless posts about how people want never to leave the house and intend to spend the rest of their lives with their husband and children and how they dread having to make polite conversation in the office etc. Buying mugs, t-shirts and other forms of merch advertising the fact that they find it "too peopley out there" etc. And congratulating themselves for being quirky and interesting. Its desperate, pathetic and deeply self-indulgent.

When challenged on it they will always say: "But I'm an introvert, you wouldn't understand. You extroverts have had it your way for so long, now it's our turn..." etc ad nauseam.

But you're not an introvert. You're a narcissistic twat who expects other people to be captivated by your lack of basic social skills. And no one is so just shut up about it.
