I see more and more posters are referring to their husbands as "hubby". I can't stand the abbreviation and wish it would disappear.🫥

It's fellah that does my head in.
Not even sure how you spell it as a red mist appears whenever I see it.

Fellah is very Jackie circa 1982.

I obviously know the word, I'm just saying that nobody in my social group or family actually says it out loud. So it's a bit weird that everyone here seems to love the term 😅

Just normal vocabulary surely

notacooldad · 31/12/2024 13:03

I dont have a problem with it.
It's not a word I use but I have friends who do.
If any word was to be banned it would be 'naice' i know where it comes from on Mn, ( yes I'm as old and i remember oh so hilarious shopping lists) i

To be honest men being on here full stop really irritates me. Is there nothing that women can have without it being invaded by men.

💯 agree. Wish all the males on here would go away.

Enigma52 · 31/12/2024 13:05

Also " game changer" and " reach out"

Don't ask me why, but they bloody annoy me. I see GC a lot re: HRT on the menopause board. Maybe because HRT is " game changing"?

Reach out, just reminds me of someone with a very long arm, trying to reach something far away! 🤷‍♀️

FizzyBisto · 31/12/2024 13:05

Hubby is indeed such a silly, twee abbreviation.

Is it really so difficult to type out hubalub in full?

Agreed. Naice 🤢🤢

There’s another word on here - limerance? 🤢🤢🤢🤢 Not sure what it means exactly but it belongs in Room 101 with naice.

notacooldad · 31/12/2024 13:06

Oh please can we ban vile. This is not a word I have ever heard in real life. It's peak mumsnet.
It's a pretty regular word.
Ive already heard it being used once today. A teen i work with said my breakfast was vile and how could I eat it. ( Greek yogurt with a banana!)

I've never noticed them unless they've announced it tbh.

Oh, for a moment I thought you were alluding to your own husband, who has been on here having a few rants! 😂🫢

VacuumPacked · 31/12/2024 13:12

greyskyoverthere · 31/12/2024 12:45

Yes! I don't get the ' cheeky' thing either!

Is it a modern way of saying ' naughty' like those adverts in the 70s for cream cakes with those two fat blokes dressed as women saying ' Naughty but nice'?

There is nothing naughty or cheeky about food. Its just food. Either eat it or don't.

it means, cheeky as in self indulgent when they know they really shouldn’t,
already have food in the house, so its a little naughty, impromptu maybe,
feeling the need to explain or excuse themselves, slightly abashed

Enigma52 · 31/12/2024 13:12

@Sasskitty 😂😂 hilarious! I had to use an emoji as I am actually laughing!

I wouldn’t lump this in with an acronym ban on here.

CandyCane457 · 31/12/2024 13:12

I think if we banned hubby because of some people’s personal preference, it would open a can of worms to cancelling most phrases as there’s always going to be some people who don’t like them!

Ill probably be in the minority here as I know it’s a huge mumsnet norm, but I’m not into all the DH, DD, DSS, DPIL, DS, DGP, DGD… it goes on! I once spent so much time trying to work out that DPIL meant “darling parents in law” that I wish the poster had just written “my in laws”… trying to guage context and work out of DS is darling son or darling sister…is it really that much harder to write “my granddaughter” than DGD… I am getting used to it now but I wish they’d never been invented.

And don’t get me started on stories with “person A did this, person B thinks this, then person C said this”… I can never follow who’s who on those!

Sasskitty · 31/12/2024 13:09

Agreed

Hate that too, and especially when people phrase it as: "Don't be scared to reach out." Erm, no I'm not scared to get in touch 🤔

fairydustt · 31/12/2024 13:16

Just thought of another thing that I find annoying on here. Where people respond ‘didn’t want to read and run’ .. if you had read and not responded, no body would ever know! Do you seriously respond to every thread you read!?

LadeOde · 31/12/2024 13:17

UpTheMagicChristmasTree · 31/12/2024 10:35

Yes and 'naice'.

I hate that one. Posters who use it think they're being wry but instead, they just come across as thick and silly.

Another pet hate is, 'Sending positive thoughts'. Meaningless drivel!

Whatthefuck3456 · 31/12/2024 13:17

I use hubby in my daily vocabulary 🤣

Haha this always makes me smile too! You're spot on, who would know that they'd read it anyway?! 🤦🏼‍♀️

It's usually used to bump a thread that might otherwise drop off the page. It's a kindness for someone who's struggling.

So just respond without saying ‘didn’t want to read and run’, surely?

“The ick” has to be on the ban list!

@Zae134

Ill take that a raise you the phrase: “feminism is about choice”. Almost always uttered as an OP rushes to embrace a lifestyle that’s deeply regressive. It makes me rage, this phrase.

Choice is an output of feminism. It isn’t its sole purpose. The Pankhursts didn’t get killed so you can spend your life reenacting Laura Ingalls Wilder, barefoot and pregnant. Yes you can do that if it’s what you want but it’s got Jack all to do with feminism.

Going off the thread - but the Pankhursts were not killed and Laura Ingalls Wilder was a teacher and an author…

But I agree with your point!
