Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

YABU- It’s nice to do things for your partner

YANBU-my hair my choice

I used to shave it all, for years. Then one day I thought why tf am I doing this? A male friend of mine said "my wife doesn't shave. Why should she? She is an adult woman, not a new born hairless mouse".

And it instantly grossed me out. Shaving everything suddenly made me feel like I was trying to appear as a child.

So never again. I've not looked back!

@Wednesdaysotherchild

Congratulations !

you must be due very soon - how exciting !

I never felt any pressure to shave it all off completely. I actually hate the feeling of being completely hairless (I did shave/ wax it all off a few times), it feels gross, and awfully unpleasant when the hair is starting to grow. I trim/ wax the bikini line, sometime quite deep in - but always leave a bit of hair. I think anyone who prefers a completely "hairless" look is a bit... you know... questionable. Adult humans are hairy, its what we supposed to look like.

ShortyShorts · 30/12/2024 00:06

Do people equate grown women shaving their legs with children too?

Or just pubic hair?

It's a horrible way to criticise a woman's choice in what she does with her own body, by pretending she'd look anything remotely like a child.

Just a weird passive aggressive way of shaming other women for their personal choices.

Shallana · 30/12/2024 00:06

Never felt any pressure to shave, in fact DH hates the feel of shaved skin/stubble down there. I give it a scissor trim every month or so, purely a personal preference.

Come off it. Just because I like my partner to shave off the wizard's cloak, doesn't mean I'm a peado ffs.

Yet you thought you'd prefer it?

I admire your honesty but that's shocking.

Adult humans are hairy, its what we supposed to look like.

So does that mean in your mind you were trying to look like a little girl? 🤢

I can't wax anywhere in my body because I get ingrown hairs, and I shave everywhere including the anal area. It's just my preference as I like to be eaten out during sex and I just like the slippery wet feeling of being shaved 😅 sorry if its tmi! I love hair on man though!

How long do you stay stubble free though? I get a max of 12-18hrs before it’s a rough, stubbly, spiked mess. And I couldn’t shave that as it would result in a rash.

Also how do you shave in all the crevices without cutting yourself?

Daisymae55 · 30/12/2024 00:12

I put YANBU because every woman should decide what to do down there and men can piss off if they don’t like that.

Having said that, I personally HATE having it and remove it. Its never been something I’ve done for men (some men I’ve dated have hated that I do this and I told them tough). Women should just do what they want there without men feeling like they get a say.

niuwyoosername · 30/12/2024 00:16

As a latecomer to this debate, I understand the preference for keeping things tidy but what happens when full bush is soft but when trimmed it's like a Brillo pad? (To quote a lovely ex.)

What do most people do with their pubic hair? I'm in my 40s and feel like people don't share much. So I'm not sure if what I do is normal!

what you do is normal for you even though there is no such thing as normal and normal is a myth

whiteboardking · 30/12/2024 00:18

Teens seem to think shaving is normal.. hoping that passes!

Why do you call pubic hair ‘wizards cloak’? Do you call your own public hair that too? I’ve never heard it referred to that and it seems like something my teenage would say!

Jk987 · 30/12/2024 00:19

For those with a full bush, what do you do when wearing a swimsuit?

I think less is more...

I would probably call mine my bush but don't really discuss it very often irl

I'm childish like that. Was giggling earlier when a PP called her vagina growler 🤷🏻‍♂️

Do bald men suddenly look like newborn babies when they lose the hear on their heads?

Or shave their faces?

I prefer DH’s face shaved, he prefers me shaved. I could leave it as nature intended and so could he, but we don’t.

Bald head and a shaved face.

Going by some MNetters warped way of thinking, they must feel like they're married to pre pubescent boys??

MsCactus · 30/12/2024 00:38

I love my bush - so does DH.

I had boyfriends before him who wanted it completely shaven. Tbh I thought it was childlike and it put me off them.

Luckily my DH likes the hair and I never shave down there :)

I trim the hair really short for a swimsuit or bikini. Never shave the rest of the year

Unreasonablyextravagant · 30/12/2024 00:39

Catza · 29/12/2024 22:04

Well, I once had a partner who expressed his preference for a bush. I did give it a fair go but it wasn't for me. Ditched both the bush and the partner at the end.
I like what I like which is no hair at all. Whoever thinks it's disgusting is under no obligation to have sex with me.

Yes ,this.

None for me thanks, but whatever floats your boat.

pippapipps · 30/12/2024 00:40

I shave the bikini line area but the rest I just trim.. I would never attempt to shave underneath its just too close for my liking I'd be too scared to cut myself
My publc hair is neat though once trimmed but these days it’s gone a bit wirey 🤪

MissTrip82 · 30/12/2024 00:42

Nobody should be pressured. I’ve got pubic hair, it’s fine.

I find the stuff about hair removal being childlike ludicrous though. I’m 45 years old there’s nothing I can do to my body that would make me look like a child. It’s just a lazy means of shaming women who remove more public hair than I do.

Personally for me the reason I find it childlike is because I remember being a child and having a hairless vagina. I remember WANTING hair to look like a woman.

When men asked me to shave it off, it just looked exactly like when I was a child (in my personal opinion) and I find that sense that it looks the same as I remember it being as a child kinda creepy.

Each to their own, but that's why I don't shave mine.

The leg comparison doesn't really work as even as an adult woman I don't have particularly hairy legs.

Hear hear 👏👏

And I say that as a woman who isn't into shaving.

I just get fed up of women shaming other women by making up stupid claims about looking like children.

It says far more about what goes on in their minds than I care to think about.
