Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

Personally for me the reason I find it childlike is because I remember being a child and having a hairless vagina. I remember WANTING hair to look like a woman.

When men asked me to shave it off, it just looked exactly like when I was a child (in my personal opinion) and I find that sense that it looks the same as I remember it being as a child kinda creepy.

Each to their own, but that's why I don't shave mine.

The leg comparison doesn't really work as even as an adult woman I don't have particularly hairy legs.

Personally for me the reason I find it childlike is because I remember being a child and having a hairless vagina.

Presumably you remember all the boys with hairless faces too?

So do you equate men without beards with pre pubescent boys?

BobbyBiscuits · 30/12/2024 00:48

It seems like it's completely taboo to have an ample bush. I wish it was a bit more fashionable to have hair down there, like in the 70s.

It's true to say that I'd rather perform oral on someone of either sex without hair, or at least not much.

If I was single and not looking I'd have it down to my fucking knees! 🤣
As it is awkward and annoying to keep shaving.

I'm way too embarrassed to go to a beauty shop and have it waxed. I only want medical people or sexual partners to get that close to my nethers! Also I'm scared it will hurt too much.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 30/12/2024 00:53

You're being unreasonable to refer to a grown woman's body as 'childlike' because of hair removal. Stop it. Angry

Otherwise, it's your body, your choice and I'm totally on your side.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 30/12/2024 00:54

I'd only read your first post OP and I'm reading backwards through the thread now. I applaud the other posters who've pulled you up on 'childlike'.

marmia1234 · 30/12/2024 00:55

The difference is the pubic area is a sexual characteristic, mens chins are generally not.Nor are their heads.
I find it odd that all of the ."I just do it for myself because I like it crowd " arrived at the exact time as internet porn. We'd all been carrying on happily for years with our floofy bushes, with maybe a bit of a trim and a shave at the sides so they didn't poke out from your bikini; and then suddenly " no I hate it all. It's unbearable". But it's definitely for me not the guy I'm dating who watches a bit too much PornHub. Weird coincidence.
Oh and it does make you look like a plucked chicken and pre-pubescent. Try and tell yourself it doen't but your wrong.

JHound · 30/12/2024 00:55

I don’t shave but I do wax it off but the only expectation for me to do so is one I set for myself. I have never met a man who was that bothered (except one ex who preferred me to have some pubic hair. I ignored him.)

If you don’t want to do it just don’t? I find a lot of women don’t. I’m a rarity among my friends for having zero pubic hair.

I also don’t really get how it’s “childlike” for a grown adult woman to have pubic hair. Unless you think the only difference between grown adult women / men and children is pubic hair?

JHound · 30/12/2024 00:56

I will say though that I hate when my male partners have pubic hair and prefer them to trim. And will vocalise that too.

The fact the whole idea (no pun intended) repulses me means I've voted YANBU.
I like the idea of being short & smart but absolutely not totally shaven😳

Not for a child it's not!

Jesus, some people.

JHound · 30/12/2024 00:58

That’s such a crap argument re chins not being sexual.

You can completely see it’s an inconsistent stance. If it’s childlike to have no pubic hair then it is childlike to have no facial hair.

Also not all of us watch porn, care about porn or remove pubic hair in response to porn. Some of us just prefer a hair free pubic area (and also some of us are around cultures where being hairless is the norm.)

My older brother is nearly 40 and still can't grow a beard.

Not all men can grow beards - and actually some women with PCOS grow beards.

All children with vaginas are hairless and will have hairy vaginas as women. It's not the same comparison

But as I said, if someone wants to shave that's up to them. This is why I don't

No it doesn't make a woman looked like a plucked chicken. You sound weird and creepy even mentioning pre-pubescence. If you were male you'd be accused of paedophilia tendencies. Think about that.

Have your pubic hair any way you like and leave other women to do the same.

sandgrown · 30/12/2024 01:01

If a man is lucky enough to get that far he can like it or lump it . My body. My choice .

DissidentDaughter · 30/12/2024 01:01

Weren’t we all hairless in our pubic/penis area as children/pre-puberty?

Eatingicecream · 29/12/2024 23:27

Changed my user name but I can’t bear not being waxed. Weirdly my husband doesn’t even like it much, but I do.

I go every four / five weeks for a Hollywood was that takes 25 minutes. It cost £48 but I hate having hair there. I’d never use cream and shaving leads to stubble.

Out of curiosity, why did you need to change your username for this?

I have the same as you - everything off. I prefer it and that's all that matters. My hair, my choice.

But generally facial hair is the preserve of adults not children. So do clean shaven men look “childlike?”

Funnywonder · 30/12/2024 01:04

Expectation? I can honestly say I have never had a conversation with DP about how I ‘should’ present my pubic hair😆 None of his bloody business. What about HIS pubic hair? Are you allowed to ask him to submit to a bit of topiary or is it just women who feel the need to meet these requirements?

MerryMaker · 30/12/2024 01:04

Shaving public hair came from porn films. It was done in porn films so you could see what was going on.

Waxing has been going on for thousands of years. Didn't realise the porn industry was that established.

JHound · 30/12/2024 01:07

Also the options are limited. I believe people should be free to have their pubic hair however they want.

My choice is to remove it all but a partner has nothing to do with it. I am single and not looking but still maintain a hair free pubic region as I have for over 20 years.

nunsflipflop · 30/12/2024 01:10

I am far too lazy to be waxing/shaving/trimming on a daily basis. My DH prefers a natural bush as do I on him. We have been together for 30+ years and we did both go hairless once to see if we liked it, neither of us were keen.

However since the menopause, I can grow a beard much better than he would dream of and my pubic hair is falling out. I no longer grow hair in my armpits, but my legs, if left, resemble a gorilla’s.

It is a very personal choice and I can’t say I have ever put much thoughts into other women’s genitals and the amount of hair they have.

I think porn drives choice and shapes the desire for hairy/hairless genitalia.

Due to a serious health condition, I have had my labia minora removed. My DH has never expressed an opinion where that is concerned either, his only desire was that I was healthy.

Because men have brains and practice using them, women just go 'i don't want to do it but can't think so i will blame society'

I don't know why we have SO MUCH hair between our legs. I find it really annoying. I don't like the way it looks or feels, and discharge/blood gets caught in it. I think thick, wild pubic hair is unattractive on both sexes, but I think SOME hair there is good for protection. Why haven't we evolved to have a nice silky thin covering for said protection but not this thick tangle of coarse hair, which you'd think would put everyone off? We don't need such thick hair there. Wonder why we evolved to get rid of most of our body hair but kept the thick pubes?

It’s thought that we’ve kept small amounts of hair all over our body to enable us to feel when insects have landed on us.

Since wasps are strongly attracted to human sweat (it provides them with salts), I believe we’ve evolved thick hair on our sweatiest parts to give us extra protection from stings.

Because I have a lot of posts about schools options! Unlikely, but I don’t want any potential School Mums knowing!

nothing wrong with natural hair.
I'm quite naturally hairy, and I tend to pull out hair from the undercarriage, when I'm sat on the toilet.
it doesn't really hurt, and it leaves the skin soft and ... ahem. accessible. makes wiping easier too. but up front it's all natural.
