Anyone else hate the expectation to shave down there?

Is anyone else fed up of the expectation/strong preference for going completely shave pubic hair? I’m female and have only had male partners, but prepared to believe women have this expectation too if others have experienced it. I mean each to their own, but personally I find it feels child-like. Has anyone managed to find a compromise with their partner on this?

I just trim it because I prefer it that way, and have attempted to remove it all in the past just to experiment - I was single at the time - and I could not believe how hard it is to remove it all. Unless you go for a wax, and that's expensive. And the wax didn't get it all, and it grew back in ten days. Not fully of course, but after ten days I certainly wasn't smooth. The beautician said she was using the strongest wax and still couldn't pull it all out. Maybe because I was mid-forties and had never waxed.

Even shaving, getting it all is a nuisance.

A lot of men want smooth these days, and it's the porn influence. Seems like no one has pubic hair anymore!

BashfulClam · 29/12/2024 23:06

Never removed mine. Get a bikini wax if I’m going on holiday and trim it down as I have a full on ‘fleece’ happening.

Cosyblankets · 29/12/2024 23:08

No pressure
I prefer a wax

DissidentDaughter · 29/12/2024 23:08

Getting uptight about hairless adult fannies looking pre-pubescent is a bit odd. Unless, of course, you’re blind.

Doitrightnow · 29/12/2024 23:08

I loathe going bare. Ingrown hairs, itchy regrowth, camel toe....

I'm not willing to compromise on this. My boyfriends have all accepted it. But maybe it's different for the younger generations.

ThatKhakiMoose · 29/12/2024 23:08

I don't think that total removal is child-like, as people often say on this topic. It's perfectly obvious that the person is an adult woman. I can see how it's erotic to see what's usually so hidden, and the odd time I've removed it all, the skin is very sensitive down there. But removing it all, all the time? What an absolute pain.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 29/12/2024 23:09

I am late 40s now and this was never a thing when I was growing up. In my 20s I remember the 'landing strip' being mentioned but I never heard of anyone shaving or being bald. Tbf it wasn't something that came up on conversation much either but as far I'm aware the full shave concept only became a thing in 2000s and following on from porn becoming more freely available.

Yeah the result is never actually that good - and what’s the point of having it all off if your arse crack is hairy anyway? No way am I putting a RAZOR FFS that near my anus when I can’t even see what I’m doing properly! And not keen on anyone else putting wax in there either! And if the arse is going to be hairy then everywhere else might as well be 😆 Oh and I actually have some fine hairs on the mucus membranes bit of the labia, and like hell am I waxing there. No no no no. No no no no hell no. 🤣

Aliflowers · 29/12/2024 23:11

I have it mostly lasered off as well as underarms and legs. DH prefers it more groomed definitely but it was something I did for me. I feel cleaner and fresher without the full bush

tellmesomethingtrue · 29/12/2024 22:14

I KEEP my pubic hair for hygiene reasons but trim it short otherwise I get discharge stuck in it! If I remove too much, I find I'm too sweaty and smelly. The pubic hair seems to reduce this. Anyone else?? TMI...!

I'm with you on this. I find it generally more comfortable when trimmed too.

Bettergetthebunker · 29/12/2024 23:13

I had my hair lasered away, I think even if it was trending to have hair I would not regret it.

shuggles · 29/12/2024 23:14

I think the idea that hair removal is "child like" is a bit bizarre.

Trimming and/or removing body hair is normal for everyone. Do you want to see someone's nose hairs? What about ear hair? What about a few straggly hairs on a bald head? The answer is "no," which is why that hair is trimmed or removed.

Also, in case you didn't realise- every man who doesn't have a beard shaves his face.

Franjipanl8r · 29/12/2024 22:27

The thought of wax being applied to a delicate area of my body in order for the hairs to be ripped out at their follicles is utterly horrific.

I've had it done once, out of curiosity, and it was very expensive and didn't even really work. Never gone back. If I want to trim it back I just use a razor in the shower.

YourGladSquid · 29/12/2024 23:16

I’d have all my hair disappear except for my eyebrows and head if I could. Luckily my partner has the same preference so we’re both in agreement anyways.

Oneanonymouspost · 29/12/2024 23:16

I used to shave/ wax it all off then I had my daughter and I suddenly hated the idea of looking like a child “down there” it’s hard to explain but looking at my innocent baby daughter I just found the whole fully bald thing icky. I got lasered after that, just round my bikini line, enough that I wouldn’t need to shave on holiday when in swimwear, and just keep the rest trimmed and tidy. DH and I talked about it (not that I needed his permission just in conversation really!) and he felt the same away since having a baby daughter.

I'm with you too. Trimmed seems to be a happy medium between having a beard between your legs, which I hate, and being completely bare, which means your clothes rub on the delicate skin.

@Createausername1970

that comment about chin hair nearly made me choke on my mini Kit Kat chocolate !!!

Tanfastic · 29/12/2024 23:20

I've kept mine tidy but have shaved to a landing strip a few times but I hate the re growth and upkeep and ingrown hairs etc.

I'm in my fifties and had quite a few different partners over the years and not one has mentioned shaving it off. I think it's an expectation in the young people now though.

Dontlletmedownbruce · 29/12/2024 23:21

I absolutely hate those ads for razors that show women shaving down there. I've also seen women shaving around their belly buttons and even their forearms on ads, that was news to me. Ads like this can create a sense of social norms and pressures in themselves. I'll be damned I a razor manufacturer gets to tell me what to do with my body but a younger girl is more vulnerable and likely to be influenced. Which is exactly what they want. I'd rather go around like a gorilla just to spite them...

ThatKhakiMoose · 29/12/2024 23:22

I don't know why we have SO MUCH hair between our legs. I find it really annoying. I don't like the way it looks or feels, and discharge/blood gets caught in it. I think thick, wild pubic hair is unattractive on both sexes, but I think SOME hair there is good for protection. Why haven't we evolved to have a nice silky thin covering for said protection but not this thick tangle of coarse hair, which you'd think would put everyone off? We don't need such thick hair there. Wonder why we evolved to get rid of most of our body hair but kept the thick pubes?

Cheesencrumpets · 29/12/2024 23:22

I am mid 40’s and haven’t had a pube since I was about 16. I shave at least once a day every single day, to maintain being silky smooth, as I cannot stand stubble. I tried to grow the hair back once, perhaps 8 years ago as maintenance is tedious, but after a couple of days the hair irritated me and I didn’t like the feel of hair in my undies. I don’t seem to get irritation, itching or ingrown hairs now, I think my skin is so used to being shaved. Each to their own though.

If you only did it once it was never going to work. You have to keep going regularly to see any results from waxing

No because I don't do it. Love me love my bush.

Exactly!

autumn1610 · 29/12/2024 23:24

Never felt pressured but my preference is just a small strip. I’ve gone all off but didn’t like it so now I keep a small strip and everything off. Totally my preference never felt like I need it like that just find it more comfortable 🤷‍♀️

BIossomtoes · 29/12/2024 23:25

That sounds like bloody hard work to me @Cheesencrumpets. I’m way too lazy to even contemplate it.
