My Grandmother was 44 when she had my youngest uncle, a healthy pregnancy and my uncle is now 47.

What's the oldest you've known someone to conceive and give birth?

Myself at 44 (albeit born after I turned 45 - he's healthy, meeting his milestones etc, pregnancy was fine). I thought I was really old but this thread is making me feel positively young 😂

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 30/12/2024 11:18

Two colleagues at 46 and 47. One was a one night stand.

mightyducks · 30/12/2024 11:34

An ex colleague conceived at 49 and 50 when she gave birth , she nearly died in delivery but was okay in the end

I was 45 when I had my youngest. I haven't met anyone older, but obviously they're out there😆

Waves hello! 47 here. Knackering and glorious in equal measures, isn't it?! 😀

You’re not wrong! I am a wreck😆

Supersares · 30/12/2024 17:42

I had my 3rd and youngest at 44, after 2 miscarriages. Perfectly heathy and much longer for baby girl, now 7. She can be exhausting but wouldn’t have it any other way 😍

asrl78 · 30/12/2024 17:44

A woman at my local bridge club had a child at age 48.

GivingitToGod · 30/12/2024 17:46

My friend's sister at 47

Bib1234 · 30/12/2024 17:57

Had my 6th at 43 and was treated like and called a ‘geriatric mother’ - no issues at all though
my friend has just got pregnant naturally with her 2nd, at 50 - he other child is 18 months :)

BlueFlowers5 · 30/12/2024 18:08
  1. A friend. They were both 46.
Mrswhatsit40 · 30/12/2024 18:09

My dh’s grandma gave birth at 48 - she thought it was the menopause!

RachelHRD · 30/12/2024 18:13

At a recent gynae appointment the male gynaecologist told me his mother had her last child at 56!! I'm 55 and cannot imagine having another at this age, my 2 are 14 and 17.

pollymere · 30/12/2024 18:15

I've read that peri can cause a last fling of fertility. I think it's carrying beyond six weeks that is less likely. I certainly know people who had a second lot of kids in their late forties and early fifties.

SpiritOfEcstasy · 30/12/2024 18:36

I had DD1 at 41 & DD2 at 42. Both conceived naturally with very little effort in TTC 😂

Me, I was 43 when I had my youngest.

OhcantthInkofaname · 30/12/2024 18:51

Just a few years ago a colleague of mine got pregnant at 55. When her menses stoped she just assumed it was because she went into menopause. She went into her OB/GYN for a " yup its menopause" exam except it wasn't. They choose to place the child for adoption.

RebeccaRedhat · 30/12/2024 19:03

I have 2 friends who were both 45. 1 took about 5 years of trc and the other about 2 years.

MelainesLaugh · 30/12/2024 19:43

Me at 45.

Tried to get pregnant for years with ex. Nothing happened. We adopted an adorable toddler who’s now 15.

With now DH, I was older and as nothing had happened when I was younger I probably wasn’t as careful as I could have been. I had my DD and he had his DS. Suddenly started feeling unwell a few years ago, I’m being vague in case anyone recognises the story, and long and short of it was I was pregnant with twins. It wasn’t plain sailing, but then that was partly due to it being a twin pregnancy rather than my age.

Needless to say I sent DH off for the snip after that bombshell.

I know two:
42 - but after many miscarriages and a TFMR
43

But I know quite a few more who had to have IVF

Newsenmum · 30/12/2024 19:47

Bigcat25 · 30/12/2024 19:45

This can’t be true!

ScruffMuffin · 30/12/2024 20:10

@GhoulWithADragonTattoo did the woman pregnant by a one night stand go on to have a baby?

Kudos to the woman who carried to term at 55, and made the brave decision to have the baby adopted. At 47 and with some medical problems, I know I haven't got the energy or fitness (or the time and money, for that matter) to bring up any more DC. I honestly don't know what I would do in that scenario. I haven't started peri yet, either. So DH was snipped many years ago!

noodlebugz · 30/12/2024 20:11

56 - had a coil. (Legitimately IMHO) Assumed it was the menopause so didn’t find out until about half way through.

Didimag · 30/12/2024 20:13

A physio working in the maternity unit - had two ladies aged 53 - for one it was her fisrt child.
