My mum and dads dog had a full box of ‘black magic’ dark chocolates yesterday and today has vomiting, wheezing, and is laid down looking very sorry for himself but they won’t take to the vets saying none will be open now

Every aspect of their diet includes treats so no I'm not being pedantic
You are lax

You've no idea how long I've had dogs.

Hate me as much as you like. People who genuinely care about their dogs don't feed them kibble.

I'm not bullying anyone. Someone asked me what I fed my dogs. I'm sorry that you clearly have guilty feelings about feeding your dogs the equivalent of feeding a child McDonald's three times a day. However, there's no need to take your guilt out on me.

Have a wonderful evening.

What do dogs have to do with children? Why do you hope I don't have children? What a strange little thing to say.

Shock, horror! Some dogs eat six times a day! You don't know much, do you? You should probably stop now, as you're embarrassing yourself.

Could we ask to draw a line under all this now please? The thread has been badly derailed but we would like to get it back on track. Thanks.

Of course I know better.

I have thirty years of experience in raw feeding dogs as well as thirty years of research, attending lectures, academic study, learning from others and seeing the evidence before my eyes. Vets usually have a lecture on dog nutrition. Once.

My dogs are fed an 80:10:10 raw diet. Not one of any of my dogs has ever had to see a vet other than for puppy vaccinations or neutering.

Most vets haven't a clue about dog nutrition. Thankfully, my vet has actually researched well and is very against feeding any sort of kibble or processed crap. That's why I chose him.

Of course your dogs never have to see the vet, because you think you know better than the vet. Let’s face it, when a dog had ingested toxins, you were scoffing at posters who were suggesting the he needed the vets, saying he’d be absolutely fine and didn’t need to go. This was despite eating a full box of dark chocolates the previous day and nine the next. He was lying down, hardly moving and breathing fast.

I don’t care if you’ve had dogs for sixty years, you are not a vet, so stop pretending you know more than than they do.

I'm not pretending 😘

Depends on the chocolate too. Milk tray has very little theobromine in. The darker the chocolate the worse the side effects.

We're afraid this needs to stop now. It looks like the OP had plenty of good advice before the thread was derailed by a few posters. We're going to close the thread to new posts now.
