Is it just me? I don't think it's aged well at all, I thought the finale was rubbish!

I loved it. Everyone I know (whom I’ve spoken to about it - and it is a few to be fair having seen lots family and friends over the last couple of days) - also loved it.

which is fine, but your are all family and friends and are like to have common sense of humour and likes, not always but for the majority - so its not a wide yard stick

the fact 80% on here disagree with the op is a far better yard stick, but even then the thread will appeal to those that have watched the program and comment

@MikeRafone - similarly, the thread title being ‘to not find Gavin and Stacey funny’ is going to appeal, in large part, to people who don’t find it funny. It’s not even close to being a representative yardstick really, is it?

You might not find it funny everyone has different tastes but it's not something you can watch a random episodes of and get it ,there are a lot of in jokes that wouldn't make sense to you ,you have ti watch it from the beginning to understand it.

Ahh. I must be a bit humour blind.
I don't know why people are getting so defensive about a below par program which is over hyped because it costs the BBC millions to pay Cordon to reappear.

But that's just your impression clearly people have loved this series and loved the ending. But again if you have only watched one random episode you won't get it if you had watched. Several episodes in sequence and decided it wasent for you i could understand. Your stance

Again, so what? You're a better person than her, well done, your medal is in the post.

Calm down, I merely said she wasn’t a nice person because she was involved in breaking up a marriage. No need to get riled up about my comment.

buttonousmaximous · 29/12/2024 21:53

It was nice from a nostalgic perspective. Obviously not as good as the original series. The issue is a lot of the stuff that made it funny isn't funny/appropriate nowadays .

The party at Pam and micks was funny as was dawn n Pete shagging. Micks speech was lovely as was the wedding song. The chase after Nessa was sweet as was their wedding. The hen do was funny.

The stuff between Gavin and Stacy was dull and almost identical to the 2019 special. They are just really boring. The gwen and Dave story was awful.

SensibleSigma · 29/12/2024 22:04

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe · 28/12/2024 22:22

When Nessa was marrying Dave Coaches, she made such a point of saying that Gwen was like a mum to her. This time, nothing. Not like a mum anymore or just all fakery?

Dawn and Pete are attention-seeking and annoying. I don't know why they were given so much screen time this episode?

Dawn and Pete were there as an example of why Sonia and Smiffy shouldn’t marry. The accusation of Dawn being a drama lama was very lacking in self awareness 😄.

What did she do, sit on it? Can't stand either of them.

Oh a fat joke. Aren't you clever 🙄

Cordon didn't just 'appear'. He's the co-creator and writer.
What does how much it cost (which I very much doubt is anywhere near 'millions' have to do with anything.

I loved Pam telling everyone - in front of her husband - how much she was looking forward to her second life when she was widowed and had downsized to a lovely little apartment with a younger gentleman friend.

yeah that made me laugh too, very Pam.

This 🤣🤍✨

AlexaSetATimer · 30/12/2024 22:02

Larry Lamb's little monologue about how Smithy became like the son they never had was the single best thing in the episode, IMO.

Yes I think that is the bit that will stay with me too.

And Mick standing up - although that has already been co-opted and made into a meme by a zillion influencers to flog their shite on SM already ... stand up if you <insert yawn of your choice here>.

RunVelma · 30/12/2024 23:07

Gavin & Stacey is a huge part of my life. I only have to hear the opening few notes and my heart sings.

When my dad died suddenly, I stayed up all night watching it with my sister. Then again, when I was in labour. Now all these years later, when my teenage daughter’s upset we snuggle up together and put an episode on. Everyone in my extended family is a huge fan too, so we often slip in quotes and in-jokes.

For me, every episode is food for the soul and the Christmas special was no different. I loved it and I know I’ll come back to it time and time again.

beguilingeyes · 31/12/2024 08:16

I watched the little 'making of' documentary last night on iPlayer. It's very sweet, if a bit short

Homehelper · 31/12/2024 10:40

I loved every second of the finale & was not disappointed, let down or angry about any single minute!!!

WestwardHo1 · 31/12/2024 11:21

Calm down, I merely said she wasn’t a nice person because she was involved in breaking up a marriage.

People are complicated. They're not black and white. Loads of marriages end and in loads of them there is someone else involved for some reason. Doesn't mean they are ALL bad people and I think using it as an excuse to dislike someone in the public eye is a bit odd really.

It's not always a classic affair with a deceived wife and heartbroken kids who had no idea.

We will have to agree to disagree I think.

I'm a fan, I liked it. It was easy watching. I looked forward to watching it as a bit of winding down on "the big day". And I've never watched TV on christmas day, its normally shows from the 70s and 80s, I saw as a kid! Yeah there were a few slow moments, they seemed intent on picking up "old moments" and trying to get them in but it seemed a good way to wrap it all up. I'm not entirely convinced it will be the last one. I'm a little bit suspicious when ruth and James are a little washed up, not so popular and in need of a quick wage, that we'll see a "Neil the baby wedding" or something in 10 years. It won't contain all the other characters like pam, mick, Dave coaches etc...but we might see gavin and stacey, smithy and nessa.

Enough4me · 03/01/2025 23:51

I found the "making of G&S" documentary a bit strange as I really enjoyed imagining the actors had the personalities of the characters. I'd just watched the whole series before the Xmas special and loved it. On the flip side, it was lovely to see how they all got on and respected each other.
If they do spin offs to make money, well great - I'll watch it.

Lighteningstrikes · 03/01/2025 23:55

I thought it was excellent.

Hopper123 · 03/01/2025 23:55

I thought it was fab got the ending it needed it wasnt quite as good as the rest of the series but i was still enamoured with it...outnumbered on the other hand was dire and turned off a quarter of the way through.

AnotherChildFreeCatLady · 04/01/2025 21:11

Was it ever funny?

BCBird · 04/01/2025 21:12

I enjoyed it. I then started watching the original series
