Is it just me? I don't think it's aged well at all, I thought the finale was rubbish!

OP posts:

YABU. Watch the Outnumbered special and then revert back.

Enough4me · 28/12/2024 00:13

Almost 80% currently disagree with you OP, I think if you'd asked about Outnumbered you'd have had 80% agreement (or more).

James cordon was very weak too in his acting

Hdkatznahtw125sgh - so. what would the better storyline have looked like?

iowgirl1 · 28/12/2024 18:03

LOVED IT !!!

Bryn was always a bit pervy - calling Gavin and Smithy lovely looking boys, hugging them for a bit too long, trying to kiss them under the mistletoe, getting Gavin to feel his pecs, setting up his bachelor pad, being excited about all the drunk stag party being in his house.

its not a new thing!

Yes Bryn was always repressed and a bit pervy, but it's a shame the writers didn't bring him into the light a bit.

lynnie75 · 28/12/2024 18:14

LOVED it! I cried and laughed. It was the perfect end to a great series 🩵

It is a shame that James Corden is such a twat in real life. Ruth Jones broke up a marriage too IIRC so she’s not any better. I love Smithy and Nessa though.

Oh really- she's gone down in my estimation...

Guccigirl123 · 28/12/2024 18:55

Thought it was great!

Homehelper · 28/12/2024 19:14

I'm also on team ""Loved it""

Scout2016 · 28/12/2024 19:54

I'm with OP. They are all just tired caricatures of themselves going through the motions now. Pam and Mick especially, the start was so forced. The Pete and Dawn storyline was cringy and Gavin and Stacy's role play even worse.
I very much disliked Nessa ripping off the pensioners at the start. Made me really unsympathetic towards her.
I'm not convinced they would have hired a stripper for a woman they didn't know. They can't all be that tone deaf. And surely they'd cancel once they arrived and realised it wouldn't go down well. Was Sonia meant to be an in the wrong spoil sport for disliking that?
Or wanting to distance herself from a bunch of grown adults who get so rat arsed when together they can't be trusted not to miss the stuff they had booked for the next day? Some of Smithy and Gavin's in joke stuff just comes across as arrested development now. I was glad Smithy acknowledged he had aged and moved on.
Not that I am arguing for Sonia because she was horrible.
I would have liked to see how Sonia and Neil got on.
The bits we saw of her and Smithy shed no light on why they were together.
Dave calling Gwen "Sugertits" like he did Nessa made me feel a bit queasy.
If I were an only child I don't think I'd want to hear about how shit it was for my parents only having me until my mate came on the scene and made it all better. Saying he's one of the family would have done.
There was no suspence about who Smithy was marrying once he'd gone to John Lewis for the gift list so that big reveal was wasted. Nessa wouldn't have had a JL gift list.
i agree that the Dave Coaches storyline didn't ring true and seemed crowbarred in for a readon to get him and his bus involved.
I love Julia Davies but seeing her in this made me feel a bit sad.

I thought he was good

Rhaenys · 28/12/2024 20:00

I thought it was sweet but not particularly funny.

The Outnumbered special on the other hand was awful.

Boysgrownbutstillathome · 28/12/2024 20:16

I really wanted to find out what happened on the fishing trip!

Bbq1 · 28/12/2024 20:19

Never been funny.

theotherplace · 28/12/2024 20:31

And finally, the two characters meant to be the focal point of the story now have nothing to do, it's totally the Smithy and Nessa show so let's give them a non-story about spicing up their marriage.

I think that's the point tho, it was always meant to be about smithy and Nessa. It stopped being about gavin and Stacey at least a season in.

Why? What's it got to do with anyone?

JoyousTern · 28/12/2024 20:43

Neither is your spelling.

tillytoodles1 · 28/12/2024 20:51

I loved it. It wasn't meant to be funny all the time, it's a comedy drama after all.
Apart from Dawn's awful botox, they all looked the same, just a bit older and fatter.

Rednotdead · 28/12/2024 20:54

It was never funny

people who don’t realise how clever it is are probably not very clever themselves. Smithy hated Nessa on sight because she is overweight despite being overweight himself. There is so much in the show about people not having insight into themselves. The fact he tried to marry someone who was completely wrong for him is perfect for his character. Dawn and Pete are the ultimate example of what happens when you marry the wrong person so putting them back together again at the end was the perfect mirror. Smithy realising Nessa is perfect for him at the very end was the ultimate character journey for Smithy. Ruth Jones and James Corden got everything spot on.

Agree! Great post.

So much of it' brilliance, is us seeing their foibles that they can't see themselves.

FlannelandPuce · 28/12/2024 21:13

I found it quite boring especially the first half, only watched it for the hype and couldn't have cared a less about any of the characters at the end so no weeping for me. TV this Christmas has been very poor and that's from someone who hasn't watched outnumbered.

Having an affair when married is a sh*tty thing to do. End of.

Don’t watch Outnumbered. It was awful. Just totally flat and meh.

G&S on the other hand I loved. I would have liked to see something new for Uncle Bryn, but otherwise I thought it was a lovely ending.

But if you haven’t watched the whole series from the beginning so you won’t find it funny.

Have you actually watched it from the beginning ?if you have fair enough

But if you are one of those people
Who have seen one or two episodes or non at all but watched the finale then you are really not going to get it
