Turkey - shit. There’s a reason we only eat it once a year because it’s terrible.

Party food - beige shit.

Venting because I’m not allowed to voice these opinions around DP’s relatives so have to lie every year and pretend like it’s all lovely. It’s not.

Anyone agree? Disagree? Have anything else they hate about Christmas they want to vent about?

If your turkey is shit you have bought the wrong turkey (frozen supermarket turkeys are dry and tasteless) and cooked it wrong!

Party Food: beige shit with a dollop of cheap cranberry jam slopped in

ShamblesRock · 26/12/2024 22:46

I've long stopped bothering with Turkey, and just get a chicken joint. Much easier and far less waste.

I buy fun crackers but my grumpy lot don't want to do the activity, they are definitely me trying to be worthy.

pictoosh · 26/12/2024 22:46

Agree that turkey is nothing to get excited over. Supermarket party food is terrible too.

I'll add

gift sets
Christmas PJs
The Grinch - just saw that for the first time. It's absolute crap.

TartanMammy · 26/12/2024 22:46

Turkey, true it's a bit meh.

Bloody love party food though, a little brie bite or jalapeno popper, mini pizza, samosas and pakora. Mmm so good!

Edited

So I think the one that I ate was from M&S so just supermarket crap, cooked a full on Norfolk Bronze before, paid a fortune from the butcher, spent ages prepping and resting. It’s still turkey. Which is shit.

Agree with turkey. Stopped having that about 30 years ago. Some party food is better than others - I dislike the beige stuff. I like the fishy stuff. Though bao buns from m and s were most disappointing.

TV this year - I can’t find anything I want to watch other than Wallace and Gromit, and Gavin & Stacey.

Bonjovispyjamas · 26/12/2024 22:47

Love beige shit 😋

pictoosh · 26/12/2024 22:48

Work Secret Santa - it's an expensive enough time of year without Secret Santa.

BlondieDH · 26/12/2024 22:48

putting Up with spending time with folk you’d rather not (extended family) = absolute shite

Shakeyourbaublesandsmile · 26/12/2024 22:49

Spotlight on how rubbish some family are

Gliblet · 26/12/2024 22:49

I don't know whether to vote YABU because turkey and party food are awesome, or YANBU because there is something about Christmas that's shit for everyone that they're not allowed to talk about 😆

For me it's the quiet 'let's not make a fuss' attitude my family have developed to Christmas. It's gone from lovely big family Christmases with lots of visitors to 'wear what you want, let's just stay home, I think I'll have a nap'. No music, carol services, walks, visits or visitors, games. Dull.

pictoosh · 26/12/2024 22:52

Travelling miles to be crowded in and bored at someone else's house. Even if you love them.

pictoosh · 26/12/2024 22:53

Not that we did this year, we stayed at home and had a relaxing one. But we have done before.

AHFBridport · 26/12/2024 22:53

My parents would def be with you on the turkey, they always had goose or duck. Just had turkey at MIL's though and it was very nice.

Parents also didn't like Christmas pudding and we always had trifle.

Bloody Christmas crackers with the same nail clippers or puzzles in them and awful jokes. Don't ask me to wear the paper crown either.

The King's/Queen's speech is never even slightly interesting.

Tomorrowistheday · 26/12/2024 22:53

I don't think I've ever had a turkey Christmas dinner.
Years ago I used to have roast beef or roast pork. But our usual Christmas dinner for a long time has been a thick chickpea stew made with chorizo.
We love it. Easy to make. And minimum washing up.

Roses, and most Quality Street.

Crackers. Expensive, create mountains of waste, crap.

comedia24 · 26/12/2024 22:55

Crackers - no matter how much you spend, never contain a decent gift, and just quickly fill up the recycling.

Wrapping paper. Waste of time, bad for the environment.

comedia24 · 26/12/2024 22:56

@ClicketyClickPlusOne you beat me to it! Whyever did they become popular?

Notouchingmybhuna · 26/12/2024 22:58

Turkey crown from an independent butchers. 5lbs weight. Cover with butter and bacon. Oven 220 for 20 minutes. Cover with foil. Reduce temp to 190’. Total cooking time 20 minutes per 1lb with additional 20 minutes. Not a second more. Rest for an hour. Bloody lush 😁

Notouchingmybhuna · 26/12/2024 22:59

Bayliss and Harding gift sets.

Cherryana · 26/12/2024 23:00

My turkey was amazing!! Thanks to Jamie Oliver’s mainly. The gravy was incredible….but it was such an intense amount of work and cost a fortune.

GertrudePerkinsPaperyThing · 26/12/2024 23:01

I had some party food in my shopping and so glad I took it out as it is indeed awful. Always disappointing.

I don’t eat meat so not turkey for me. I do enjoy a veggie wellington type thing though as part of a roast . My cousin got some veggie pigs in blankets that tasted just like frazzles crisps - really loved those!

Fellow wrapping paper hater here. I've started wrapping gifts in newspaper. It looks quite nice if you choose an interesting picture for the middle of the parcel. You need a small amount of selotape before adding a bow in string which can be reused.

CorbyTrouserPress · 26/12/2024 23:01

I genuinely like turkey and eat it throughout the year.

Suzuki76 · 26/12/2024 23:02

27th to 31st. I hate it. Feels like everyone is in limbo waiting for NYE which is shit anyway. I'm sure it's lovely if you have a holiday home to go to like my boss, but I'd work if I could (I can't as DS is at home and the office is shut anyway).
