How can people eat this much at Christmas

Mokel · 26/12/2024 21:30

I had a large plate of my Christmas dinner with Christmas pudding then 5 cheese biscuits with cheese.

I was absolutely stuffed.

Yet hear people who have a large Xmas dinner then go or host a Christmas Day evening buffet. Wouldn’t be able to eat at all.

Think my appetite has reduced

See, I think this might have been my pry.
While making the pigs in blankets, I had too much bacon and I had a secret bacon sandwich for breakfast.

Not secret as in ashamed. I just didn't want to share.

Problem, not pry.

Sorry

JustCrow · 26/12/2024 23:44

Erm… well done?

Yes, I’m 5’ 7” and a size 8, I have a great figure and I’m happy in my skin. Some of the things people have said to me…
‘How on earth do you stay so slim?’ ‘Have you always been this skinny’? ‘I bet you don’t eat much’. ‘It’s alright for you, skinny bitch” … and the list goes on.
I wonder how they would feel if I said, ‘How on earth did you get so fat? ‘Have you always been this fat?’ ‘I bet you eats loads’. ‘It’s a shame you’re a fat bitch’.
Agreed, hypocrisy at its finest. And try finding size 8 classy fitted clothing these days, almost impossible, the discrimination on the clothing racks is beyond a joke for slim people. Loose fitted clothing geared towards overweight people.

You must be shopping in the wrong places! I haven't noticed that at all. I dress very differently to the way I did when I was bigger, and I haven't had any problem finding lovely, classy, fitted clothes. Neither does my 25 yo DD.

Try shopping in independent stores? I don't shop in chain stores. I like independents with sales on lol.

unfestive · 26/12/2024 23:45

@mainecooncatonahottinroof well it's a bit both really isn't it? Are you generally very interested or judgemental about what people eat?

I will happily 'do me' because 'doing me' means enjoying myself at Christmas and not being unpleasant about the eating habits of other people.

Thunderpants88 · 26/12/2024 23:45

I’m fuming I couldn’t eat everything I wanted on Christmas Day because I’m pregnant and IT JUST WOULDNT FIT.

get me back to next year when it will be full Christmas dinner at 1pm, pudding at 4pm then cheeseboard at 9pm 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤

BucketBouquet · 26/12/2024 23:45

I thought you said it was "boring" not "twattery"? Make up your mind.

I’ve made up my mind - it’s boring twattery. Happy now?

Not one bit judgemental, no reason to be. I've been very slim and ate my neck's worth, I've been bigger, I've been smaller. I was obese for years in between. I am now a normal BMI as my appetite has diminished massively in recent years and I have lost a lot of weight.

Unlike you, I haven't been unpleasant towards anyone or anything. I'm genuinely interested, and I've had posts from other ladies around my age which have been reassuring.

Crikeyalmighty · 26/12/2024 23:26

@suki1964 interesting you say that - my FIL at 85 is with us for a few weeks as between houses- he always ate well and cooked for himself too but I am suprised how much he's ramped up the snacking in the last year and can't finish his 'proper meals'- I think with some older people it's boredom - so they grab the biscuits or tea cakes or in his case 'mini cheddars and olives'at various points in the day and then aren't hungry for proper balanced meals

Also their taste buds are totally wrecked, they also have either dry mouths or excessive saliva, sore and receding gums and either few teeth or ill fitting dentures

Now Im no spring chicken being 60, but I cant abide salty food. So lets say Im doing gammon and sometimes its a tad salty - mum loves it, I cant swallow it and shes lapping it in her. Im going no one eat that if you dont like it - shes asking for seconds, yet she wont add condiments - because shes of the generation who didn't. So Im serving food that me and he likes, but she is probably finding pretty tasteless

Aye the boredom is a killer, shes become more seditanory these past few years ( AF, can barely walk the length of herself ) and its a long day in front of the tv, so her routine has been breakfast, mid morning cuppa and a biscuit, lunch being a sandwich, fruit, yoghurt and orange squash, afternoon cuppa and cake/biscuit, dinner, more cake, chocolate

Of course just sitting doesn't help with digestion so her worse nightmare is seeing a plate of food in front of her, so the serve yourself works ( Im actually the same, I couldn't eat from a piled plate but can eat for King and country if serving myself )

Sleybels · 26/12/2024 23:48

I agree there’s no need to comment on other people’s food like that. I’ve had people do it to me but I noticed when I was thinner it was more “wow well done you can eat a lot for a tiny person” and it all seemed very good natured - even admiring. Like “fair play you eat all the cake in the office and you don’t put on a pound” and “where does it all go” type comments that I’d just shrug off.

But when I started to put on weight several years later the comments definitely took on a more disapproving tone. I had one colleague tell me she “wouldn’t eat that bag of crisps”
that I had. And she urged me to read the calorie count. I told her I already had noticed the calories and then delighted in eating them in full view of her later.

I had another colleague at Christmas drinks say she would go to the gym every day if she were in my position. First it sounded to me as if she was saying if she didn’t have kids and had time to go more , but then the way she giggled with another colleague I realised she also meant it in a nasty way. Like “I’d go gym more if I was your size”.

I’ve now lost almost all the weight but I won’t forget how certain people tried to make me feel!

Every single western woman has body weight issues that cloud our true feelings and beliefs and the fundamental truths about weight, size, appearance etc etc.

It's the patriarchy, capitalism and competitiveness combined.

It's ok. We're all weird, whatever your opinion on weight. Or however you eat food.

I personally can't eat much at once. I prefer to eat high fat savoury products. Mostly natural, but I'm also partial to rum, cigarettes and excess blood oranges. I'm size 16 but have a BMI of 23 cos I'm insanely tall. When I finally got my weight up after being years of underweight I distinctly remember a man saying to me I was getting podgy. My BMI was 19.
I do me. You do you
I'm insanely thrilled if you eat 19 of my roast potatoes cos food is how I show my love.

I like you.

Pyjamatimenow · 26/12/2024 23:50

I think people’s Christmas dinners vary greatly. Dh served up a mini cheese tart, pate and a bread roll as a starter, then the actual dinner was roast potatoes, turkey, pigs in blankets, pork stuffing, sprouts, honeyed carrots and parsnips and a Yorkshire pudding! I couldn’t eat it all ( I am on mounjaro but never have been able to finish one of these meals) but a few of the family cleared the whole plate. I’ve been to other people’s houses for Christmas dinner and they bear no resemblance to that kind of plate

You'd have both?

No wonder there's an obesity crisis...

I just inhale the steam from the three sprouts that the other 12 of us will share at Christmas dinner and I'm stuffed.

You inhaled steam?

That's living high on the hog.

I just looked at a picture of steam.

You must be HUGE.

Ohwtfnow · 26/12/2024 23:53

I used to eat breakfast, Christmas dinner, 2 portions of dessert, endless Quality Street, then buffet food in the evening. I managed this from being a young child up until my late 30s, at which point my appetite suddenly reduced and I can now only eat a small breakfast, a relatively small portion of Christmas dinner, a small portion of pudding and a few chocolates. Absolutely no chance of any buffet. It just won’t fit in my tummy any more. And no, I’m not skinny or a dieter or anything. I have terrible IBS so perhaps that doesn’t help my appetite.

ODFOx · 26/12/2024 23:54

There were 12 of us around the table for Christmas dinner and no one had room for pud until 2 hours later when we'd all been out for a walk. Your 'large plate of dinner' may not be as large as you think OP.
Likewise the people who eat 3 meals on Christmas Day may not pile their plates as high as yours.

My sides are actually splitting at this utterly original and totes hilarie 'joke.' 🙄

And 'please tell me you didn't have a FULL size tomato.' And 'I am sooo stuffed after my massive salad!' Ha ha ha ha ha! Hmm

Tired, old, and pathetic 'jokes.'

NEWSFLASH: Some people don't eat a lot, and guess what...? That's OK! Shock

So much projection going on, on this thread........

Yeah but most of them don’t start faux astonished threads about what gluttons some people are do they?

Why would anyone be proud that their son ate 15 roast potatoes, it’s hardly an achievement, and to openly encourage our children to over eat is not the way forward for a healthy and happy adult life.

Oh FFS, lighten up!

Im back at a weight that suits my frame and yes I get the comments . Not one person told me I was a fat bitch, but now - you are too slim, stand sideways and we would miss you, sure those jeans you could fit in one leg ffs

Fat shaming is a huge no no, but lets slag the skinny Minnies - or in my case - normal healthy weight for my height and build

I get where you are with the clothes, even harder for us short arses. DH got me a jumper for Christmas , its a really pretty jumper, but it drowns me.
