How can people eat this much at Christmas

Mokel · 26/12/2024 21:30

I had a large plate of my Christmas dinner with Christmas pudding then 5 cheese biscuits with cheese.

I was absolutely stuffed.

Yet hear people who have a large Xmas dinner then go or host a Christmas Day evening buffet. Wouldn’t be able to eat at all.

Think my appetite has reduced

I couldn’t eat as much as you did in 1 sitting.

But I could wait a few hours and then eat much more.

Why would anyone be proud that their son ate 15 roast potatoes, it’s hardly an achievement, and to openly encourage our children to over eat is not the way forward for a healthy and happy adult life.

Oh lighten up!

RedRiverShore5 · 26/12/2024 23:17

My DH managed, though he did say he felt poisoned this morning from the amount he ate, lots of fatty and sweet stuff

Joystir59 · 26/12/2024 23:18

Ate porridge for breakfast, a handful of salted peanuts, big Christmas dinner, small portion of Christmas pudding. Was absolutely stuffed.

I’m a year-round fat bastard, but I think it must be because I graze (constantly) rather than whacking great big meals in a one-er. Can’t cope with a giant roast, but I’ll happily snaffle a cold stuffing ball from the fridge every time I go past it 😫

I'm more suited to grazing too. I'd rather have a buffet than a three course meal. so I can eat a bit. chill out. go back and eat a bit more. it suits me much better. which is probably why the cold leftovers and cheese and crackers are my favourite bit of christmas meals. I love the main dinner. but getting up as and when you feel like it to pick at bits and pieces is the best bit.

Fatties?

What a vile post.

NestaArcheron · 26/12/2024 23:21

Oh yay.
Competitive undereating/ fat bashing thread - but make it Christmas themed.
How festive.

Everyone eat what you like and don't worry about what anyone else is eating. It's really very simple.

Actually crying with laughter at some of these replies 🤣🤣

Every single western woman has body weight issues that cloud our true feelings and beliefs and the fundamental truths about weight, size, appearance etc etc.

It's the patriarchy, capitalism and competitiveness combined.

It's ok. We're all weird, whatever your opinion on weight. Or however you eat food.

I personally can't eat much at once. I prefer to eat high fat savoury products. Mostly natural, but I'm also partial to rum, cigarettes and excess blood oranges. I'm size 16 but have a BMI of 23 cos I'm insanely tall. When I finally got my weight up after being years of underweight I distinctly remember a man saying to me I was getting podgy. My BMI was 19.
I do me. You do you
I'm insanely thrilled if you eat 19 of my roast potatoes cos food is how I show my love.

Once saw BIL eat a full brie and a bid wedge of Stilton

Still don't know how he managed it

I could I love cheese.😝

Crikeyalmighty · 26/12/2024 23:26

@suki1964 interesting you say that - my FIL at 85 is with us for a few weeks as between houses- he always ate well and cooked for himself too but I am suprised how much he's ramped up the snacking in the last year and can't finish his 'proper meals'- I think with some older people it's boredom - so they grab the biscuits or tea cakes or in his case 'mini cheddars and olives'at various points in the day and then aren't hungry for proper balanced meals

Eat what you want, just don't comment on what others eat. It's very rude.

Agreed. It's no one's business.

Why can't we talk about appetites without it turning into a slagging match??

That would hold me until new year!

Totally agree, you are destroying your child’s future health and happiness by allowing them to overeat at one meal a year ….

TooManyChristmasCards · 26/12/2024 23:38

25.9% of adults in England are obese and a further 37.9% are overweight but not obese

that's how. We famously take the piss of "large portions" in the USA but we're just the same. Some people think they need "athletic" portions because they walk or run 5k that day.

The world has changed, we eat a lot more and we move a lot less. What else is new.

SeAmableSiempre · 26/12/2024 23:38

SabreIsMyFave · 26/12/2024 21:54

This. ^ I don't eat as much as I used to, and neither does DH. (Both late 50s.) We have one portion of fish, chips, and curry sauce between us from the chippy, as it's quite enough for us.

I do agree with you @Mokel However, you're not allowed to say as much on here though, lest you be accused of being a 'teeny tiny,' and 'smug,' and 'bragging,' and 'having a go at the fatties.'

I try and keep my food intake down as I have a tendency to gain weight easily and struggle to lose it. God forbid you say it on here though - that you don't eat a lot... 🙄

Fat shaming is frowned upon here. But thin-shaming is fine, and people who are slightly built with small frames, who don't eat much are Royally mocked, and it's OK for some reason!

Hypocrisy at its finest!

Yes, I’m 5’ 7” and a size 8, I have a great figure and I’m happy in my skin. Some of the things people have said to me…
‘How on earth do you stay so slim?’ ‘Have you always been this skinny’? ‘I bet you don’t eat much’. ‘It’s alright for you, skinny bitch” … and the list goes on.
I wonder how they would feel if I said, ‘How on earth did you get so fat? ‘Have you always been this fat?’ ‘I bet you eats loads’. ‘It’s a shame you’re a fat bitch’.
Agreed, hypocrisy at its finest. And try finding size 8 classy fitted clothing these days, almost impossible, the discrimination on the clothing racks is beyond a joke for slim people. Loose fitted clothing geared towards overweight people.

It really doesn't, but you do you.

I thought you said it was "boring" not "twattery"? Make up your mind.

You know the way when you point a finger, there's 4 digits pointing right back at you...

Also if you're a size 8 and eating 20 roast potatoes, I am going to wonder how the feck you're doing that. I mean, it's basic physics.

And it's unfair because I would actually like to eat 20 roast potatoes but I can't.

And you can write essays on this cos I'm also intrigued that the manic must be thin friends that I have, now I'm pushing 50, all look really old suddenly. Which might be down to the small sample size. Is this universal? But it's just a vague wondering, I don't actually care , as long as they're healthy and happy.

In short, other women's fascination with weight fascinates me so I do tend to read these threads and think wtf?! And I'm drinking my Christmas rum and smoking my chtyreal cigarettes and googling for blood oranges but I really really should be going to bed.

You do you ladies! Try to stay happy in 2025 x

Fat free or low carb gruel?

Weightoftheworld8 · 26/12/2024 23:40

It's once a year! I saved myself yesterday for the Christmas lunch. I didn't have any breakfast so I could go all out and have a big pudding plus some sweets after.
Was a bit upset though that we forgot a cheese board so I need to get one for new years eve

See, I think this might have been my pry.
While making the pigs in blankets, I had too much bacon and I had a secret bacon sandwich for breakfast.

Not secret as in ashamed. I just didn't want to share.
