How can people eat this much at Christmas

Mokel · 26/12/2024 21:30

I had a large plate of my Christmas dinner with Christmas pudding then 5 cheese biscuits with cheese.

I was absolutely stuffed.

Yet hear people who have a large Xmas dinner then go or host a Christmas Day evening buffet. Wouldn’t be able to eat at all.

Think my appetite has reduced

@KneesUnder , are you a vulture?

@StormingNorman , you should have just eaten the whole sprout. Did you weigh the turkey slice?

CrispieCake · 26/12/2024 22:12

We very much enjoyed our family roast carrot for a sumptuous Christmas dinner and, through judicious carving, there was sufficient left over for the annual Boxing Day veggie stew. No idea why anyone would need more than that.

MerryMaker · 26/12/2024 22:12

A very slim friend can eat the most incredible amount of food in one sitting

StormingNorman · 26/12/2024 22:07

I had half a Brussels sprout and a small slice of turkey. Still stuffed.

My sides are actually splitting at this utterly original and totes hilarie 'joke.' 🙄

And 'please tell me you didn't have a FULL size tomato.' And 'I am sooo stuffed after my massive salad!' Ha ha ha ha ha! Hmm

Tired, old, and pathetic 'jokes.'

NEWSFLASH: Some people don't eat a lot, and guess what...? That's OK! Shock

So much projection going on, on this thread........

TheChosenTwo · 26/12/2024 22:15

We have brunch (quite light) at about 11 and then dinner at around 4:30, pudding at about 6. Then we have evening guests who have their main meals at about midday so we put on a buffet. None of us who have our meal later eat any buffet!
I physically can’t ever eat more food than normal ‘just because it’s Christmas’, I get uncomfortable and it’s a really unpleasant feeling so I have learnt my limits. Other people can eat more which is fine, we have plenty of food for anyone who wants it and send home the leftovers with everyone so it’s not wasted.

I was shocked at my son yesterday. he had already eaten a christmas dinner at his GF's families house earlier in the day then came to us around 4,30 and ate another Christmas dinner, at least 3 different puddings then started raving about a loaf of bread he had bought from M&S and proceeded to eat his way through most of a small loaf of said bread interspersed with chocolates, more cold meat etc.

I'm impressed!

SleepyHollowed84 · 26/12/2024 22:23

I understand OP.

My sister’s partner ate 2 fully loaded plates of Christmas dinner, 2 full bowls of different desserts, and then half an hour later, another full bowl of trifle.

There was also plate of leftovers which he then also tried to eat the lot!

I know people eat a lot on Christmas but I thought it was excessive

soupfiend · 26/12/2024 22:23

You do lose appetite as you get older but not just the appetite as such (because most of us dont eat christmas food because they're hungry per se) but the ability to eat as much as you do when you're young, its not as comfortable, makes you tired.

I used to be able to pack it away but as I got older you just get blown out by much less even though activity levels didnt change (Ive since had a sleeve so not comparing to now as that wouldnt be accurate)

My OH really picks at things now compared to what he used to, hes cdertainly not less active or less muscular because he walks about 10 miles a day for his job and thats been consistent, but he simply cant contain the amount of food he used to

suki1964 · 26/12/2024 22:24

what I so love about Christmas dinner, is I cook to feed a small village ( just three of us ) and its placed in serving bowls and we serve ourselves based on what we want - no judgement, no putting too much on one plate and not enough on another, you eat to your fill and to everyone thats personal choice

Left overs are in the fridge. My cooking is done, you want to eat again, you know where the kitchen is, you can open the fridge - fill your boots

Personally I cant, personally I eat what I want till Im full, and thats me done. Mum eats tiny amounts, but often, so she will be in the fridge after a dinner and dessert. Mr S will go in for dessert, then open the chocolates

Not one of us is superior to anyone else

Im just grateful that we can afford to have choice and afford to fill our boots - however deep they may be

Squidinasantahat · 26/12/2024 22:25

Would you normally only eat one large meal a day though ? Pretty much regardless of what I eat il be hungry again 4-5 hours later 🤷🏻‍♀️ so Xmas lunch then a buffet of some description on the evening sounds normal to me

MerryMaker · 26/12/2024 22:12

I wouid love to be like that, in fact if you offered me the choice between brains, beauty or the ability to eat anything I like and never gain weight I would chose the latter.

Emanwenym · 26/12/2024 22:11

@KneesUnder , are you a vulture?

@StormingNorman , you should have just eaten the whole sprout. Did you weigh the turkey slice?

25 grams exactly - including a very thin gravy.

YouMeandBrie · 26/12/2024 22:32

I’ve stuffed my face with all kinds of junk all week, not trained and probably drunk too much too but I’m an ultra runner in a physical job so can get away with it every now and then. I’m pretty disciplined all year but a bit of relaxation and excess now and then is good for the body and soul. My family aren’t phased by how much I eat but mil never fails to make a comment about how I manage to stay a size 6. I don’t bite as I know I do eat a lot but it’s (mainly!) good stuff.

Feelingathomenow · 26/12/2024 22:33

I ate a stick of celery and half a grape -that’s me done til New Year! A full Christmas dinner, Christmas pudding and 5 cheese biscuits with cheese? no wonder there’s an obesity crisis!

FancyBiscuitsLevel · 26/12/2024 22:34

OP - many people’s Christmas dinner doesn’t contain more food /calories than a normal Sunday lunch. Not everyone piles the plate up. So if you’d had a normal cooked lunch amount of food, then some pudding, not all that surprising you might want something else to pick at 4-5 hours later. Not a full meal, but more of a sandwich type amount of food.

Same. I used to be able to eat a lot more though. My appetite has sadly waned along with, happily, my weight.

I could only manage a small amount of my Christmas dinner. I would have loved to be able to thoroughly enjoy it the way I used to but I just hit a wall and I can't.

On the other hand, I don't want to gain weight again but sometimes it's frustrating!

I don't do starters and we don't have dessert right after dinner - we wait until the evening and share with other family members who join us.

bringmorewashing · 26/12/2024 22:35

No idea OP. I love my food and normally eat 3 meals a day, but I couldn't face any kind of dinner today or yesterday. I was planning a mini buffet (to use up leftovers) with nice wine this evening but in the end I was still too full from lunch. So just had the wine!

FrogOnAYuleLog · 26/12/2024 21:34

One chestnut and one carrot does me nicely until new year 🐿

Pure gluttony. I know it's Christmas but how the hell are you managing to fit a whole carrot in after such a banquet? Shock

Not everyone is sneery the same as you.

I didn't read it as sneery.

So much projection going on, on this thread........

I’m not interested in how much anybody eats - unlike the “appetite like a bird” crowd. It’s the food shaming and implied judgement of those with bigger appetites that I find objectionable.

So unnecessary to start a thread commenting on how much other people eat.

Out of interest, what do you think I’m projecting?

Samandytimlucypeterolivia · 26/12/2024 22:38

I personally can’t either, had my lunch/dinner at 3, choc cake & ice cream at about 6, then a few choccies in the evening whilst watching gavin and Stacey. Was stuffed.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 26/12/2024 22:39

Mokel · 26/12/2024 21:58

I do normally eat loads of food without feeling stuffed.

Hotel buffet breakfast- a plate of cooked breakfast then continental meats, cheese abd bread. Followed by croissants etc.

Then evening meal buffet- a plate of salad, plate of the other foods and three puddings

Did you cook the dinner? My mum used to say by the time she'd cooked it all, she'd lost her appetite for it, and I'm a bit like that too.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 26/12/2024 22:40

Barney16 · 26/12/2024 21:58

Today I got up and thought oohhh, I'm really looking forward to a roast beef sandwich, we had beef for Xmas dinner. So my morning progresses, really busy as getting ready for family visit. Gets to lunchtime, got to fridge, bloody partner eaten the lot. No beef left. His reasoning for this gluttony? Oh you said the beef was tough so I ate it. Er?

The greedy bastard. I hope he was sick lol!
