I'll start. Sorry for sticking it here, posting for traffic.

Didn't fancy turkey this year so did a beef wellington, with mushroom duxelle & Parma ham inside.
Goose fat roasties with garlic salt and rosemary.
Cinnamon red cabbage
Pan fried sprouts with chestnuts and pancetta
Normal carrots as my 4 year old won't eat them any other way
Pigs in blankets
Homemade yorkies
Waitrose bought stuffing as I don't really like it that much.

Topped with an orange gravy with a red wine stock pot shoved in.

It was delish. Ate early-ish as I have to eat with medication. Thought I'd get in early and ask you all to share your lovely Christmas lunches!

Also highly recommend the meat from Waitrose butcher counter. It's lovely.

Mil was due to host but is in hospital Sad so DH decided to cook for everyone (8 people). We had:

turkey
gammon slow cooked in coke
meaty stuffing balls
pigs in blankets
roasties
roast parsnip/carrot (two versions, one cooked in the meat juices and one veggie as SIL and niece are vegetarian)
swede and carrot mash
red cabbage
sprouts
broccoli
yorkshire puds
veggy stuffing
nut roast
truffle cauliflower cheese

It was fantastic although we have leftovers to last until about March 😂

RabbitsRock · 26/12/2024 08:41

Just 3 of us this year & was happy how dinner all came together.
Beautiful Norfolk Bronze turkey crown wrapped in applewood smoked bacon with a stuffing of pork, roasted chestnut, apricot & cranberry. Eyewateringly expensive but such a treat!
DH made yummy breadsauce ( only I like it)
Pigs in Blankets
Homemade honeyroast carrots & parsnips
Sprouts for DH only
Petitpois
Turkey gravy made with Bisto granules

I didn't take a photograph of the whole dinner but I did take a photo of my roast potatoes as they were great 🤣.

Regarding leftovers, I purposefully cook double what is needed because leftovers are my favourite bit! Taking food back off people's plates is gross, our leftovers are the bit that doesn't get served up.

I'll be having Christmas Dinner sandwiches for a couple of days and then will make a giant pie with any leftover meat and cheese etc.

dementedpixie · 26/12/2024 09:01

@Bbq1 of course you don't take food back off people's plates! Leftovers are what's left in the pot, in the baking tray, etc. We have leftover turkey, ham, pigs in blankets and stuffing balls.

The turkey will go into a spicy tomato pasta sauce today. Ds will eat the ham by the handful whenever he passes the fridge. We also have homemade veg soup that we will have for lunch today with a leftovers sandwich or just bread and butter.

PickAChew · 26/12/2024 07:38

If you cook a turkey that has enough meat for 8 hungry people or enough chilli for 6 then the leftovers are the bit that doesn't get served.

Taking the food back off people's plates, unless they're just setting it aside for themselves, is revolting.

I agree that taking scraps off people's plates is🤢and i doubted anyone actually did that but I was unsure about the leftovers. I think i see it now - it's not really leftovers per se, but people cooking extra for extra meals. I can cook enough chilli for 3 if etc but I get it.

A question about leftovers that applies to normal meals and Christmas dinner... I see a lot of people on here saying things like, "Leftovers for tomorrow/three days" etc. Do you cook too much deliberately to have leftovers or is it the food left on people's plates being saved for another meal? We are a family of 3 and we never have leftovers. I have a smaller appetite than ds and dd but I know what each of our appetites are and only cook how much I know we will likely eat. Any leftovers on people's plates are just put in the waste.

I cook too much deliberately for xmas and boxing day. But it all gets eaten over the holidays. The carcase will go for stock, and any leftover veg (except red cabbage) gets piled into the soup.

Rarely is anything left on plates, because unlike most of the plates being shared in this thread we don't feel the need to pile it up on the plate. There's always plenty on the table to come back to.

@RhubarbCrumbs @Nanny31 sorry, I wish I could share my recipe with you, but after many attempts to make a vegan Yorkshire pud I stumbled upon Plantside vegan Yorkshire puddings and I've never looked back. I bought these from an independent vegan shop.

You get 6 in a box and they also do gf ones - never had them though. They do a toad in the hole too.

They are very good.

Nanny31 · 26/12/2024 10:17

@HereForTheAnimals Thank you!

RhubarbCrumbs · 26/12/2024 10:33

@HereForTheAnimals that makes me feel strangely better about my inability to make them rise 😂 Will check them out, thanks!

Had another Christmas dinner at MIL's, mostly same food as I cooked but the ham was slowly cooked in a wood heated brick oven so was rather special, and there was red caviar (salmon roe) and for greenery there was a bowl of capers, which I don't like so my Christmas is still green-free.

Boffle · 26/12/2024 16:16

On leftovers.
My DC are in their 20s and don't live here so I'm out of touch with how big their appetites are. We all like as many different veg and trimmings as possible so it's tricky to get exact quantities right. Some leftover turkey has gone in the cat , a rare treat as I don't often give it leftovers, the rest in the freezer to be used for curry etc.
Leftover pigs in blankets were eaten for supper last night and leftover veg went in soup I made today. There was leftover cheescake but that will be eaten tonight.

Ah, but there's something good about having the hottest a d must variety food as first helping. It's is a feasting time after all.

A little bit of everything you like and go back for more if you fancy it 😋😋😋

You sound judgemental saying it like that.

I had left over wellington and all the trimmings today, and we're getting a curry this evening from the local curry house.

I'm on day 3 no green, going strong, still going to the bog.

Merry Christmas!

We didn’t take pics of our dinners but we enjoyed the usual combination of carbs, sugar, salt, veg, meat/meat alt, and alcohol.
cat supervised everything all day and enjoyed a parsnip.

Turkey (cooked on the barbecue), clementine and chestnut stuffing, nigellas ham, roast pots, pigs in blankets, red cabbage, bread sauce, carrots, roasted Brussels with chestnuts, lots of gravy. There were parsnips but I didn’t have any. It was fab.

edit - my photo didn’t load!

For Boxing Day we had a big game pie, cauliflower cheese, leftover ham, leftover red cabbage and sprouts, and a big salad. I must say the cauliflower cheese with ham was a historic combo

Our alternative turkey!

wtf is that?

Rustyfeet · 26/12/2024 19:12

Turkey turkish style. Turkey stuffed with spiced rice and chick peas. Did you mean to be so rude? @TheGrinchsBallsack

TheGrinchsBallsack · 26/12/2024 19:27

Looks like it's been attacked by an xl bully.

I'm sure it was delicious none the less x

Rustyfeet · 26/12/2024 19:29

It was smothered in butter and unde the skin. It was very moist and delicious! @TheGrinchsBallsack it wasn't even slightly dry! To be fair most roast dinners look like they have been attacked to a certain degree 🤣

That looks amazing and not at all like it's been attacked by a dog. I'm not sure why that poster felt the need to be so rude. I love Turkish food. Hope you enjoyed it ❤️

We didn't get round to eating ours yesterday but enjoyed it today - from the local Indian restaurant
