Caught ringworm from someone’s cat, should I post to Facebook

I’m not sure what I want from this.
There are cats that come and shit in my garden every morning before I can catch them. I sometimes see them in the evening and shoo them away.
I know it isn’t the time of year for gardening but a few weeks ago I moved some shrubs around as they looked better in another place and I was mindful to not touch any cat shit or go near it.
I have now developed ring worm and it’s spread everywhere. I am covered in it, it’s itchy and painful.
I was advised that it’s contracted by animals, I don’t share towels or anything like that and it’s the only way I could’ve caught it.
I’ve finally got cream for it just today but I have a weak immune system and skin conditions already so I don’t what luck I’ll have

Do it

Then when you next get thrush, announce that to the world too

People should be made aware

I thought so. But they’re probably drunk/off their faces on sugar so I’ll let them off
I’ll find something to cover the soil as well. I’m sure I’ve got some landscape bark actually.
If it’s eczema that’ll be the 3rd or 4th type of eczema I’ve got.

Please don't put bark down, I have it in my garden and in doing so turned it into a giant litter tray for the neighbours 4 cats. There was a fresh steaming turd every morning over the summer and it stunk to high heaven. I got one of those cat repellent machines from amazon which has completely stopped it. It took about 3 weeks to stop completely but that's normal apparently. There's not been one turd since and it doesn't harm the cats. I also dislike cats.

I hate cats!!!

Why not just post that you hate cats then

The ringworm is nothing to do with the cats who come in your garden. Probably poor hygiene on your part.

Do advertise that on facebook

Gggglinda · 25/12/2024 10:48

Why would you broadcast to the nation you have a fungal disease?

stopthepigeonstopthepigeon · 25/12/2024 10:49

I don’t understand how you think you caught ringworm from the cat shit if you say you never touched it?

Agree that announcing you have ringworm on Facebook may not be a wise move

My husband actually got ring shaped eczema. The GP confidently diagnosed a fungal infection. The antifungals put the eczema into overdrive. A dermatologist took about 30 seconds to diagnose ring shaped eczema and prescribe csteroid creams. Are you utterly sure it is ringworm.

I also get ring shaped eczema. Like your DH, some GPs diagnose it as ringworm at first glance.

Another possibility if it is ringworm might be second hand clothes or soft furnishings.

UnstableEquilibrium · 25/12/2024 11:03

So in summary.

You may or may not have ringworm.
Even if you do have ringworm, you didn't touch the cat faeces.
Even if you had touched the cat faeces, ringworm isn't transmitted that way.
Even if ringworm was transmitted that way, the owners couldn't have vaccinated their cats against ringworm because there isn't a vaccine for it.

Apart from that you're being perfectly reasonable.

GlitteryUnicornSparkles · 25/12/2024 11:15

Ringworm (a fungus) is generally contracted by direct skin to skin contact (not just that of animals but people too), in-direct contact especially through vectors such as soil is extremely rare. Therefore it is more likely you have contracted it from somewhere other than than the garden. Correlation doesn’t always equal causation!

Based on this I think accusing a local cat (that you haven’t actually physically touched) is a bit of a stretch and I’m not sure what you would be hoping to achieve by posting on facebook other than possibly getting local people to check their cats over for something they probably do not have.

pinneddownbytabbies · 25/12/2024 11:25

Funny how some people don't even realise you can get ringworm from touching a random bit of street furniture or a fence post whilst out for a walk, isn't it?

I have no tolerance for anyone who says they 'fucking hate cats', or that they hate any other living thing for that matter. There's got to be something really twisted in your head to have such a blind hatred for other living creatures.

I hate cats!!!

Cats literally don’t give a shit (even in your garden) if you hate them 😆😆

ps Ringworm is very common and most likely caught from a child!

This is how much cats care what you think.

If ever there was a thread to reinforce my decision to go MN cold Turkey in the new year, this is it!

No, really? 😆

Haven’t read all the replies so someone else may have suggested this, but it sounds like pityriasis rosea. I had it a while back and assumed it was ringworm at first. Starts with a large round ‘mother’ patch then lots of smaller patches over chest, back, arms etc. It’s viral, pretty sure you can’t catch it from cat poo, and it’s harmless - you just need to wait for it to pass. www.nhs.uk/conditions/pityriasis-rosea/

It's a shame you didn't realise sooner, you could have included it in your round up of the year in your Christmas cards.... 😽💩

Also you can’t vaccinate a cat to prevent this.
I've had 3 cats previously now have 2 new ones and have never had ring worm from any of these.
I’ve never caught it from families, friends nor ex’s cats.
Mine was everywhere in matter of days. You knew it was ring worm. You could clearly see it.

No I didn’t know. I have numerous forms of eczema and assumed it was a new form. Then other rings started appearing and within a few weeks I was covered in red patches. After google searching I thought it was ringworm and The GP said it sounded like a fungal infection.
It hasn’t even began to go away with the prescribed cream and the GP has since said it’s eczema.

Eczema is very tricky, I can recommend a specialist consultant who see's patients privately outside of the NHS if you want? he worked miracles with my DS's eczema.

Yalta · 01/01/2025 22:53

I had eczema all my life. Then I finally was sent for an allergy test and apparently I am allergic to all shampoos, soaps and body wash, all hair dyes and laundry detergent.

Within a week of getting rid of all the above and the 7 page list of everything else that I was allergic to my skin was completely clear and has remained clear

I cannot believe after 60 years that I have perfectly smooth skin
