Caught ringworm from someone’s cat, should I post to Facebook

I’m not sure what I want from this.
There are cats that come and shit in my garden every morning before I can catch them. I sometimes see them in the evening and shoo them away.
I know it isn’t the time of year for gardening but a few weeks ago I moved some shrubs around as they looked better in another place and I was mindful to not touch any cat shit or go near it.
I have now developed ring worm and it’s spread everywhere. I am covered in it, it’s itchy and painful.
I was advised that it’s contracted by animals, I don’t share towels or anything like that and it’s the only way I could’ve caught it.
I’ve finally got cream for it just today but I have a weak immune system and skin conditions already so I don’t what luck I’ll have

ringworm comes from animals and then it spreads to other things. I’ve never had it before. I don’t share towels with anyone, no one else has it. I’m the only one who goes and picks up the shit and no I don’t do it with my bare hands? If I’ve spent hours moving around shrubs and plants.
i know there’s nothing I can do but I still want to complain about the fact I need to spend a month disinfecting everything, bathing and so much laundry because someone didn’t vaccinate their cat.
I get my weekly shopping delivered.
I only really speak to my neighbours or family.
i haven’t gone out and touched anything with my bare hands either.

You can’t vaccinate for ringworm. It’s fungal. Thankfully it’s not dangerous and it will pass.

ICantBelieveItsNotButtercunt · 24/12/2024 22:53

There are actually a number of other skin conditions that do look like ringworm, have you actually had it confirmed from a scraping? Not that ringworm is bad in itself, more just irritating, but seeing as you’re sure you haven’t been close to somebody infected (not that you’d necessarily know) then it’s worth doublechecking.

I’m sorry you’re having a hard time with it though. It is irritating.

You probably caught it trying on clothes in a shop you know.

There are no vaccines for fungal infections.

It's a shame you didn't realise sooner, you could have included it in your round up of the year in your Christmas cards.... 😽💩

😂

ttcat37 · 24/12/2024 22:55

Why are you so convinced it’s from cats? You haven’t been touching them presumably? It’s far more likely that you caught it indirectly from another human, ie someone has touched something that you then touched. It is very contagious. You could have touched a hand rail on an escalator after an infected person.

Neveranynamesleft · 24/12/2024 22:56

Better post your traumatic situation in Cats Weekly then word will get round quicker. All cats in lockdown till local ringworm victim is free from highly contagious life threatening disease. Inform the local vets then they can keep a look out for any suspicious characters that may be the culprit....

Good because if you were to stroke any, you'd end up giving them ringworm.

😅😅😅😅😅. Oh that is funny.

Fannyfiggs · 24/12/2024 22:57

Nah, this is a piss take. It has to be 🤣

Facebook post: I hate cats cos they shit in my garden and I caught ringworm from a cat who I wasn't near, did not touch, and has not got ringworm. Please be careful everyone.

Catbook post: My fellow felines, there is a human out there accusing us of infecting her with ringworm. Us, the cleanest animals on the planet. They see how much we groom and bathe but this person has the audacity to blame us. They don't even lick their own arses for god sake! Disgusting and disgraceful. If you'd like to protest 💩, her garden address is...

FishPie2 · 24/12/2024 22:58

This is the reason I will not spend Christmas with family - they have 3 cats I would not like to be in the same room as.

Miyagi99 · 24/12/2024 22:59

You’ve more than likely caught it from someone (humans are animals btw), it’s very rare it to get it from infected soil, but even then it wouldn’t come from cat poo.

FormerlyPathologicallyHappy · 24/12/2024 22:59

We’re animals it's not a separate genre just because we’re bipedal and like killing each other in wars. It is highly contagious but it’s a skin infection not shed in cat poo.

Has it been diagnosed as ringworm? Scabies is easily caught too.

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/12/2024 22:48

😆

There was one but it vanished quickly. Shame as it was funny! 😆

catphone · 24/12/2024 23:00

I’m really surprised that I could’ve caught it from anyone or anything, yet haven’t had it before and hadn’t even heard of it before catching it. I didn’t know it was a thing.
so it just sits on the surface of anything ready to infect you?

I bet it’s not ringworm. Can you take a photo of it?

Do you never ever have any human contact? A hug from a relative? Shaking hands? Taking a parcel from a delivery person (and perhaps accidentally brushing against their hand)?

PerditaLaChien · 24/12/2024 23:03

Its mainly spread by skin to skin contact. It would be much more unusual to get it from soil

The world is full of germs, bacteria, fungi, viruses. That's life

Did they try to eat you last time?

dementedpixie · 24/12/2024 23:06

@catphone Could be discoid eczema and totally unrelated to the cats or ringworm

DaringlyPurple · 24/12/2024 23:06

My husband actually got ring shaped eczema. The GP confidently diagnosed a fungal infection. The antifungals put the eczema into overdrive. A dermatologist took about 30 seconds to diagnose ring shaped eczema and prescribe csteroid creams. Are you utterly sure it is ringworm.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 24/12/2024 23:08

As pp,have said you can’t catch ringworm from cat faeces.
You can get things to prevent cats coming in your garden. Sonic deterrents, sharp grit or ground glass spread on the soil ( won’t cut but cats won’t scratch in it) angled brackets and wire along the top of fences.
Do you gave medical confirmation it’s ringworm? Lots of skin conditions can look similar so worth checking to make sure you have the right treatment.
