Respect for people doing this kind of thing but personally I’m usually half pissed, stuffing my face with sausage rolls and sprawled out watching Christmas Eve telly by this time….

Just got a while salmon in Sainsbury's for 1.50 , should have been 20 plus . Chopped up ans frozen for January!

Amazing

I was hoping to buy one, at normal Xmas half price, for student DS who has been moaning that salmon on a student budget is too expensive. He's been living off pasta and cider from what we can tell Grin

Can confirm yellow label heaven NOW.

What cheeses did you get in the end?

Likewhatever · 24/12/2024 15:11

DH once came home late on Christmas Eve pleased as punch with an absolute bargain turkey he’d snagged from Iceland. Unfortunately it was the size of a small child and frozen solid.

Callipygion · 24/12/2024 15:12

Just remember it’s not last entry at 7pm (or whenever they close) you should be done shopping and through the checkouts by then. They might not let you in if you turn up 5-10 mins before closing. Most of the Staff are usually only paid up to the closing time, with just a couple perhaps 15 mins later to empty the tills and lock up!

Anyway, has anyone seen any Wensleydale with cranberries in it? I haven’t been able to find it anywhere this year!

I can't believe you can all be arsed, frankly. I won't be leaving the sofa, let alone the house!

Me too. I’m ensconced on the sofa and not moving any further than the kettle.

Tesco! I'm eating some now Grin

We’re on the road with all the food for the meals at older relatives’ houses (somehow we have to do both the travelling AND the cooking.)

I don’t think we could fit a Pythonesque wafer thin mint in the car at this point. This is a bit frustrating as we are driving past 4 large supermarkets including Waitrose and a massive M&S.

LemonLymanDotCom · 24/12/2024 15:16

My local one is open 6am-10pm. I hope the staff is getting at least time & a half

Yeah I'm already that. It's double jeopardy half price labels whilst pissed.

Mission accomplished.

Off (on foot) to deliver Christmas cards and then watch Elf before illicit mulled wine for a local carol concert.

MissSueFlay · 24/12/2024 15:17

I picked up 3x half side of salmon for £11.50/kg, half price for Clubcard holders. So £75 of salmon for £40. Some of it for tonight, most for the freezer.

Youreabadbanana · 24/12/2024 15:18

I have had no luck and now no turkey for tomorrow. My delivery yesterday didn't have the £15 turkey I'd ordered, then went to a few shops today and none had any at the price point, m&s £60!! Sainsburys from £30

Withdrawn at the poster's request.

Agreed. In my local Waitrose everything was price slashed at 5pm yesterday... If only it had been my weekly shop day... Those prices would have been fantastic

Starlightstarbright4 · 24/12/2024 15:19

I need to nip out shortly will have a look in Morrisons and Aldi whilst out - don’t need anything but will be good to have a look for the freezer

DavidBattenburgh · 24/12/2024 15:21

Rib of beef and a whole salmon from Aldi earlier 50% off. Lots of 50/75% off fruit and veggies. Salmon is now cut up and in the freezer. Rib for new years. Date is the 27th but that's nonsense for beef.

ChristmasKelpie · 24/12/2024 15:22

Best Christmas Eve bargain i ever had was 2016 in a CO-OP , Large turkey crowns for £3.79 but then reduced again to less than a £, Scottish Steak pies for pennies instead of £10, so much cheese that i didn't need to buy any until the summer, party food, veg, bakery items, flowers , chocolates, shortbread and crackers. It was less than 10 minutes until the shop shut, the manager told me the staff had had their pick so take as much as i liked. I spent less than £20 and couldn't fit it all in the boot. I only went in for cornflour.

lap90 · 24/12/2024 15:22

I love a yellow sticker bargain but tend to avoid the Christmas Eve rush.
Did find a ham reduced by 20 quid in M&S last week though and had bought some sides at a quid each the week before that.

Starseeking · 24/12/2024 15:23

My local M&S closes at 6pm tonight, so I'm going to pop down in about half an hour to see what they've got. Will report back!

2025willbemytime · 24/12/2024 15:24

I must be coming down with something as I just went to Asda for a few bits and didn't even think to look for bargains!

MiamiWindMachine · 24/12/2024 15:24

10 minutes before closing time is not closed.

There was a brilliant Reddit post a while ago about a lad who got a Christmas temp job at M&S. All the staff told him to hang on until closing on Xmas Eve and he would pick up real bargains. He waited and then ran round the store after closing and got the entire family Christmas dinner for about 5 quid.

My husband says the same… used to work in M&S and says Christmas dinner never cost more than £5.

Oh no
Asda normally has loads of turkeys, our two nearest seem to hugely over order every year.
If not could you try a little waitrose or m&s at a service station?

A specialist cheddar and biscuit set. Originally £12. Down to £4.

Sadly from experience I can confirm that they won’t be paid any extra. The majority of retail staff these days are paid flat rate regardless of bank holiday or Sunday working, especially so in the big Multiples
