I’m in, we have all our Xmas stuff but planning a trip to Waitrose at 5:30 and then M&S after to see if we can pick up any meat bargains.

popped into Waitrose at 1:30 this afternoon after the gym and there was barely anything reduced. A few packs of picky bits with £1 off

Leapintothelightning · 24/12/2024 16:06

On behalf of all supermarket workers past, present and future - please never go an hour before closing on Christmas Eve.

roses2 · 24/12/2024 16:08

I went at 4pm and M&S closes 7pm. Turkey crowns still full price £80 with 26th expiry date!!

Got some maple cured bacon half price and king prawns 75% off.

Maybe they are donating the turkeys to a food bank - can’t think why they were still full price when other products were reduced.

Went to Aldi 10am and many products 30% off. Lady said further reductions 2pm. Went bang on 2pm and everything was gone!

Just remember it’s not last entry at 7pm (or whenever they close) you should be done shopping and through the checkouts by then. They might not let you in if you turn up 5-10 mins before closing. Most of the Staff are usually only paid up to the closing time, with just a couple perhaps 15 mins later to empty the tills and lock up!

Anyway, has anyone seen any Wensleydale with cranberries in it? I haven’t been able to find it anywhere this year!

Morrisons! I bagged some for £1 about 2 hours ago

Why not? They have to stay until closing time so what's the issue with having customers.

Genuine question

I get not going 5 mins before, but I don't see the issue with an hour.

Agree! Anyone entering the store 10 minutes before closing on Christmas eve are pure evil and may their stocking be filled with coal.

Thansk for your service. Oct - Dec in retail must he hell and I commend you

Because the busier it is in that last hour, the longer they have to stay past closing to "face up" ready for Boxing Day.

1MuffinSocks · 24/12/2024 16:18

Just got. £95 turkey down to £54 in M&S. Still loads of stuff not reduced so probably could have got a bigger bargain if I'd held out a bit longer but couldn't be bothered to go back again.

Reallyaretheythatgreat · 24/12/2024 16:18

I got a whole salmon from Sainsbury’s around 1:30pm for £8.

originally £32

I also got 3 packs of mini chicken fillets down from £4.50 to £1.99 and a pack of chicken breasts down from £6.75 to £2.25.

By going to Marks and Spencer at 6pm tonight to try and get a bargain. Shall we play who's got the best Christmas bargain today??!!

10 minutes before closing time is not closed.

No it’s not closed but they are closing!

CheeseTime · 24/12/2024 16:20

Just back from M&S. pretty quiet. No bargains.

unlikelychump · 24/12/2024 16:20

I've just sent dh...

Hidingthegoodchocolate · 24/12/2024 16:21

After a trying day with work / unwell elderly mother / cat needing the vet, I went into our local independent bakery for a coffee just now - to discover everything was 50% off! We now have croissants for tomorrow's breakfast, and a giant slab of Christmas cake that will keep me going this evening feed about 4 people.

Cheepcheepcheep · 24/12/2024 16:23

I would very much like to thank @Husbandrippedmeoff, the OP, for reminding me that the one item we didn’t have ticked off was dinner tonight 😂🙈

Just had a yellow sticker raid of the party food at Waitrose, a feast awaits tonight!

Goatinthegarden · 24/12/2024 16:24

I used to work in Tesco about twenty years ago when I was 16/17 and still at school. I loved the madness of working Christmas Eve (we used to close at 10).

I remember a man kicking off big style about half an hour before we closed because had sold out of selection boxes. He had to be physically removed from the store.

Motorina · 24/12/2024 16:26

No bargains in Sainsburys (paid full price for pigs in blankets!!!) but this prompted me to check out the Nobody's Child website, where a dress I've been eyeing up is 40% off and in my size. Who knows if it will still fit after the Christmas cheese, mind. Thanks @Husbandrippedmeoff

Hattysbackpack · 24/12/2024 16:28

I’m the proud owner of an M&S wagyu beef topside joint, down from £36 to £6.12 (bought last night, going in freezer).

marriednotdead · 24/12/2024 16:32

Not got room in the fridge or freezer for any more food but I did pick up some Christmas cards yesterday in WH Smith’s. Pack of 30 reduced from £3.99 to £1. DP is a postie and sends about 600 to his customers so he was pleased with the 6 boxes for next year.

VicSynix · 24/12/2024 16:34

My OH just came back from Waitrose, as he still fondly remembers the Christmas eve he got an amazing bargain of lobster. He said there were quite a few £20 turkeys.

InaChristmastizz · 24/12/2024 16:34

Popped in to see my friend just as she was finishing work (in an independent bakery) and she gave me 4 boxes of individual portion cakes inc. a cheesecake, lemon meringue pie and various cup cakes etc. 🍰 🧁
To be fair, she's often donating excess cake in our direction especially when she's trying out a new recipe and needs testers. DH is a skinny Minnie and could easily eat his weight in cake with no ill effects. 🤣🤣

millymoo1202 · 24/12/2024 16:35

I nipped into my local Aldi for an extra bottle of wine today, was really quiet, wished I’d done my big shop as an everything was half price including the fancy turkeys! 🙈

TokyoSushi · 24/12/2024 16:36

Just been to our big M&S for a forgotten item, no bargains really except for turkeys, big £85 ones reduced to £33

LittleOwl153 · 24/12/2024 16:36

We did Aldi at about 3.30... got a nice veggie Christmas tea for tonight with all their veggie/vegan Christmas fancy bits at 75% off.

Who's in?

I was at M&S at the crack of dawn this morning as the car park on the retail park has been absolute carnage after mid morning so wanted to avoid that.
There was TONNES of stuff yellow stickered. I actually didn't see any of their 'the best' trifles without a yellow sticker, there were loads and loads. Ours is shut Boxing Day too so anything that had 26/12 as its best before date was yellow stickered as far as I could tell

fivebyfivebuffy · 24/12/2024 14:04

I need some milk and was going to have a look while I was out
My options are
Booths
M&S
Aldi

Can't decide! Booths and Aldi do too good to go bags so they might have all the good stuff in there...

I so miss Booths....used to shop there every hols
